A question for the service industry baddies

I'd really like to get a second gig working in a bar or restaurant again, but my weekly schedule is beholden to my full-time shift-work job (8 hour shifts ranging from 5am-10pm, depending). Does anyone work in a spot where it would be possible to just pick up shifts? Or where it's very easy to give up shifts I wouldn't be able to make it to?

I'd like a to work a couple nights a week, but I'm not allowed to set a permanent availability at my full-time (because of course), so if I'm getting scheduled at both, I could easily get overlap. Am I totally dreaming that I could try to get a restaurant gig and make it fit into my work schedule?

How to find a home for an inherited collection

Hello fans -

My dad was a huge C&H fan, and 20 years ago, I inherited his collection of books. They have sadly just sat around all this time. While I've looked through them some, I'm just not someone who is a reader of comics.

I am ready to pass this collection along, hopefully somewhere where they will be read. Donating to the library looks like a no-go, they only accept books in "as new" condition, or they just re-sell them. These are in great shape, but not quite "as new."

What can I do with this collection that ensures it goes somewhere it's wanted? These books were important to my dad, and that matters to me. But after years in a box in my closet, I think it's time they move on.

The collection is 10 titles, 11 total books (1 duplicate) - The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes, two copies of The Essential Calvin and Hobbes, Something Under the Bed Is Drooling, Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons, Weirdos From Another Planet, The Revenge of the Baby-Sat, The Days Are Just Packed, It's a Magical World, Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat, The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book

No food for the tulips?

Does anyone know why tulips don't come with the little packet of "flower food" that you add to the water? All the other flowers I've purchased, even the little $3.98 bundles, come with the food. I buy tulips a lot, they're my favorite, and I've never gotten the food.

Lunchboxes with Detachable Parts

A dual compartment lunchbox that allows the two compartments to be fully detached, via zippers or buckles - does this exist?

I have a dual compartment lunchbox and I like it, but I don't always eat all the food I packed, and have to transfer some items to the work fridge to make sure they last (I do use an ice pack, but commute + work + commute), the ice pack doesn't cut it).

I would love to have a lunchbox like this where I can just unzip the cold section and put it in the work fridge. But I can't seem to find this - anyone have one? Or, what's your alternativr BIFL lunchbox that you love & why?

Share your affection for venemous spiders - help soothe my fears

There's lots of reasons to appreciate our insectivore neighbors tidying up other bugs and spinning beautiful webs we can look at. But I'm interested in hearing specifically about your appreciation for the spicy ones [super venemous ones]. The widows and recluses of the world. Help me be less afraid of these guys, please share the reasons you love them!

I live in an area where I encounter brown recluses pretty frequently in the warm months. I shake out my clothes, and they're non-confrontational with a large mammal like myself, but that doesn't assuage my anxiety 😅 I want to learn to appreciate these guys for what they are, and accept them as part of my living environment.

I've come a long way with my spider-fear in general, I'd love to learn to live more comfortably with these spiders in particular. I don't need info about how bites are rare - I know! I need to learn to love them instead of hate them lol.

Video of a tarantula in my front yard, doing its thing, because recluses don't make good video content.

Cargo Trunk Cover Ford Escape 2013-2018 Free

I traded in my Ford Escape & no longer need this trunk cover. It's only 2 years old and in perfect condition - I just hate to throw it away. If you have an Escape 2013-2018 model and don't have a trunk cover, you're welcome to it! I'm happy to meet.

I also have two rubber floor mats I used in Escape that actually came off an old truck. They're dirty but in perfect shape otherwise. My new car is the first I've ever owned that came with proper mats! I'll throw these in if you want them as well.

New ride! Anyone have blind spot mirrors?

Got a '25 Forester today! Coming from my '15 Ford Escape, the comfortability of this car is off the chart.

My pain point is visibility. I know it has blind spot detection built in, but I can't see! My Escape had built in blind spot mirrors (photo 2) that worked great and I literally had 0 blind spots. I could always see a car on both sides no matter where they were.

Does Subaru have an equivalent kind of mirror I can get, or does anyone here have third party blind spot mirrors they recommend? I feel like cars are sneaking up on me on the freeway, it's got my nerves jangled. Thanks everyone!

Have a used car I need to sell. The engine is in bad shape, but currently runs & no check engine lights. I do have the title. My mechanic said I could look into Copart and LKQ to see if they can get it off my hands.

Does anyone have experience selling to them? Is it worth going this route vs trading in when I get my new one? Very curious how much they paid if anyone has sold to them, and how easy was the process? Thanks in advance

Alright my mind can't take it any longer. I need to dust inside my walls. I would be so grateful for any knowledge you can share about dusting inside the drywall for brown recluses.

Context: I have a brown recluse infestation. They are, in fact, mostly peaceful, sure. But I see them way too often! I have been bitten once, about 4 years ago. Luckily I was fine - I think it was in the pant leg of my jeans when I put them on, and it got me in the thigh. Absolutely crazy looking, but healed up just fine thankfully. I spray the regular Orkin in home stuff about once a year, and it does help. Usually (not always), I find them dead. But my nerves are frayed from 6 years of this. My home does not have an attic or a basement - I live in a loft, an A-frame second floor, so no attic. They're definitely in the walls.

The time has come to make some holes & get some dust in them. I'd like to do this once very thoroughly, if possible. Advice especially appreciated from anyone who has successfully eradicated them or significantly reduced their numbers.

My questions are - What chemical do you recommend? Do I need to open up spots in the walls, or is going in through outlets/light switches sufficient? Will there be increased spider activity immediately following treatment as they flee, or do they just die on contact? tia

Edit: My spider pics below.

Lindshire Park in south Austin has some extremely adorable ducklings at the moment. I really recommend a visit before they grow up, especially if you have kids. Just please don't feed them bread or the like!

I'm curious if anyone knows the history of this park, I couldn't find it online. How did this park and its strange, wide variety of ducks come to be? Did the ducks just find a good pond, and it was subsequently turned into a sanctuary, or was it built intentionally? Some of these ducks aren't even native.

In any case I'm delighted it's here, I'm always happy to read on a bench here with the fountain sounds and lovely creatures. Obligatory duckling photo, apologies for the poor quality!
