Narwal Freo 20 First Look: FlowWash Track Comes to the Freo Line

Narwal has introduced the Freo 20, its latest robot vacuum that brings the Flow's track-style mopping system to a more affordable midrange model.

Narwal provided this unit for review through its Early Access Program. I wasn’t paid for this post, and my thoughts are my own.

Specifications

The Freo 20 shares many specifications with the Flow 2, including its 3.74-inch-tall design, 31,000 Pa of suction, rear-facing LiDAR, side-mounted structured light sensor and LED fill light.

Additionally, Freo 20 includes Narwal's latest TwinAI Dodge unlimited obstacle avoidance and navigation system which uses dual RGB cameras and an onboard AI chip to identify obstacles in real time.

Two 136 degree RGB cameras recognize objects, obstacles and assist with navigation.

It also has a single extendable anti-tangle side brush, 1.58-inch threshold-climbing capability and a self-cleaning FlowWash track-style mop. The mop applies 12 newtons of downward pressure, uses water heated up to 140 degrees and can lift up to 0.4 inches.

However, its 6,400-mAh battery is slightly smaller and its main brush lacks the lowering brush cover and rubber seal found on the Flow 2.

A Familiar Freo Design, Refined

The most noticeable change is the redesigned multifunction dock.

The Freo 20 dock is available only in stark white and has an elegant appearance, with a 3D woven texture etched into the front. Like previous Freo models, the robot docks inside the station rather than in front of it.

The Freo 20 dock measures 17.0 inches wide by 15.8 inches deep and 18.1 inches tall, which puts it approximately 0.7 inch narrower and 2.7 inches shorter than the Flow 2, but 1.7 inches deeper.

Additionally, it includes a physical button that can be set to custom cleaning modes (whole house only).

The redesigned Freo dock has a rounded shape and elegant appearance.

This design should please longtime Narwal fans who prefer the rounded appearance and dimensions of the Freo X Ultra and Freo Z Ultra docks, as well as anyone seeking a lower-profile robot vacuum.

Narwal has moved the 2.4-liter dust bag to a hidden drawer in front of the clear dirty-water tank.

The dock has a hidden compartment for the 2.4-liter dust bag.

Other features found on the Freo Z Ultra and Freo Z10 Ultra, including automatic detergent dispensing and the electrolyzed-water system, are not included with this model.

Narwal says the new dock can wash the mop with heated water up to 212 degrees F and dry the mop with heated air at up to 140 degrees F. It also has a removable tray with a detachable base filter, supports fast charging and includes a multicolored LED status light inside the docking bay.

Unboxing and Setup

The Freo 20 comes in a plain cardboard box with minimal branding. The package includes the robot vacuum unit, multifunction dock, color-matched white power cord, anti-tangle side brush, scale inhibitor, dust bag, additional filter, sample detergent and quick-start guide with safety instructions.

Setup was straightforward. I removed the protective plastic and stickers from the robot, pulled the foam strips from the bumper, installed the side brush underneath and snapped the scale inhibitor into the clean-water tank. I also removed the shipping material protecting the water inlet and outlet at the back of the docking bay.

My unit arrived with the dust bag already installed, so all I had to do was plug in the power cord, place the Freo 20 in the docking bay and fill the clean-water tank. I also added just a few squirts of the lemon-and-basil detergent to the clean water tank.

With the physical setup complete, it was time to pair the robot.

Pairing and App Features

The app walks you through connecting the unit over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and then asks you to complete an initial quick mapping of your home.

Once mapping is complete, a floor plan with room divisions is generated automatically. Rooms can then be renamed, merged, deleted or reconfigured as needed.

The Narwal app includes dust bag and drying status, manual dock washing and drying controls and full-featured map editing.

The mapping process had a few hiccups in our home. On its initial run, the Freo 20 missed part of an interior wall, which meant I couldn’t divide our open-concept family area into the four sections I had planned. In the end, I settled for two.

During mapping, carpets are detected via the cameras and placed on the map as crosshatch areas. However, they are not set to be vacuumed by default. You must edit your map, choose the carpet-setting feature and manually select each carpet you want the unit to vacuum.

Other carpet settings include cross but don't clean, avoid and ignore.

Carpet settings are available with the map editing feature of the Narwal app.

This differs from every other robot vacuum app I’ve used and may take some adjustment for first-time Narwal owners.

You can also adjust the default carpet settings for future detected carpets, but it would be helpful to be presented with an option during setup to vacuum all carpets after mapping.

The brand’s Freo Mind AI mode is a highlight, automatically adjusting suction, water volume and cleaning routes based on the room environment and dirt level.

The Freo 20 uses multiple pathing algorithms to complete a cleaning run depending on the custom settings you choose.

Custom modes are also available including vacuum and mop, vacuum only, mop only and vacuum before mop.

Other standard app features include daily and weekly schedules, no-go zones, scheduled patrolling and multifloor maps.

First Run and Initial Performance

The Freo 20 performs almost exactly like our Flow 2.

No discernible differences in navigation, suction power, battery life or obstacle avoidance emerged during our nine days of testing.

The Freo 20 picked up surface debris and dust on our hardwood and tile flooring as expected. Like the Freo Z Ultra and Flow 2, the unit is especially quiet when vacuuming hard flooring on its lowest settings.

Freo 20 uses less suction and water on hardwood floors to prevent streaking and reduce noise.

One noticeable difference is that the main brush guard lacks the lowering mechanism and rubber gasket found on the Flow 2. This may affect cleaning performance on thicker carpet.

Differences aside, the Freo 20 had no trouble removing surface dirt and dust from our medium-pile wall-to-wall carpet. It even occasionally applied too much suction to our low-pile carpeted floor mats which caused the corners to curl.

However, overall pickup performance on carpet was mixed. Based on our experience, the Freo 20 is likely best suited for homes with primarily hard flooring.

The Freo 20 also shares a few of the Flow 2’s navigational quirks. It can be somewhat forceful when entering and exiting the dock, even when obstacles are nearby, and may be overly aggressive when attempting to navigate beneath low-clearance furniture.

Furniture clearance and navigation efficiency appeared to improve with additional runs, though docking still required plenty of surrounding clearance.

Overall Impression

I’ve been a longtime Narwal customer, having purchased the Freo X Ultra, Freo Z Ultra, Freo Z10 base model and original Flow. I also recently bought the Flow 2 in black.

However, our home has a more traditional aesthetic, and because our robot vacuum sits prominently in the middle of our off-white living room, the dock’s appearance matters. The Flow 2’s sleek, modern design stands out more than I would prefer.

The Freo 20 addresses that concern. It’s a good fit for those of us who want the Flow 2’s advanced track-style mopping system and key features in a lower-profile package.

Its dock blends more naturally into our home without sacrificing suction power, mopping performance or obstacle avoidance.

I’m glad Narwal is giving customers more choices, and the lower entry price makes the Freo 20 even more attractive.

Pricing and Availability

The Freo 20 will launch in the United States on August 20, 2026. The retail price is $1099. Limited-time pricing available from August 20 to September 3 for $899.

From Granddad’s Lap to a One-Acre Challenge

One of my earliest memories was riding on the lawn mower with my granddad. He took real pride in caring for his yard and would spend hours on it each weekend making sure every blade of grass was cut and every weed taken care of.

He would let me sit in his lap and drive the mower, but it wasn’t just a free-for-all. He took it seriously and would coach me on overlapping the lines and how to turn without missing a beat.

I try to carry that source of pride forward in my own yard, but life gets busy. Finding the time is especially hard because my yard is tough, over an acre of gentle hills, some steep slopes, a rocky drop off, older trees with exposed roots and there’s even a rock quarry at the very back.

It’s more than a few hours every weekend, but it’s a beautiful piece of property and I do the best I can to carry on my grandad’s legacy.

MOVA 16-Inch InstaLoad Trimmer: Unboxing, Assembly, & First Run

The MOVA 16-inch InstaLoad brushless string trimmer just arrived. Here is a breakdown of the assembly, a first look at the unit, and my initial thoughts.

This unit was purchased for personal use, and this first look is not sponsored, approved or otherwise affiliated with MOVA.

MOVA's GT616TC 16-inch 60-volt brushless string trimmer fully assembled.

What’s Included

The kit (model GT616TC) includes the battery-powered trimmer with 16-inch cutting width, adjustable handle, trimmer guard, 2.5-Ah battery (GBA625) with a 430-watt 6A charger, an extra 13 feet of 0.095-inch line, comfort strap, hex wrench and user manual.

A higher capacity 5-Ah battery (GBA650) is sold separately for a whopping $349 on MOVA’s site.

The complete trimmer kit, including the base unit, charger, battery and accessories, is displayed following its unboxing.

Assembly

The unit comes in the box unassembled. The power cord that connects the shaft and the handle is spiraled (like a landline phone cord) and appears non-removable.

MOVA says this allows the unit to be disassembled and folded in half, taking up less space for storage in the off-season.

Getting the spiraled cord inside the shaft to connect the handle was tricky. Take care not to bend or damage the cord during the process.

There are two separate screws that need to be tightened directly where the handle and shaft meet, and one additional screw farther down that is already inserted.

One of the screws near the shaft and handle connection was missing from my unit. I found it loose in the box.

Heavy-duty hex screws secure the connection joints along the shaft of the MOVA brushless string trimmer.

The handle attaches via a hand screw. There is also a flip-up lever on the unit that allows you to adjust the length of the carbon-fiber shaft.

The bump head comes pre-fed with plenty of line.

Charging & App Setup

My battery came with about a 40 percent charge out of the box. Charging was very quick. A full battery charge requires only 30 minutes.

This is a smart trimmer with Bluetooth connectivity.

Once your battery is charged, insert it into the unit and hold down the button on the back until the LED blinks blue. The trimmer will enter pairing mode. 

You can either scan the trimmer’s QR code or find the specific trimmer model, GT616TC, in the list of products in the MOVAHome app to continue pairing.

The app is rather limited and includes a temperature sensor, energy meter, usage log and most importantly the ability to update the firmware.

The MOVA string trimmer plug-in is shown within the MOVAHome app.

First Run

With the trimmer assembled and paired, I headed outside to edge along my enclosed back wooden fence.

During my first attempt, the lower cover assembly flew off, forcing me to hunt for a metal spring in the 95-degree heat.

With the cover off, the existing string immediately unraveled to the point I couldn’t get it back in place.

The internal dual-line spool assembly is shown exposed after a mishap.

Learn from my mistake and ensure the cover assembly is securely locked in place from the factory before starting for the first time.

As frustrating as this was, it did allow me the opportunity to use the InstaLoad feature right off the bat.

The manual says to load the trimmer, start by removing the battery. Next, press the release tabs to unlock the cover assembly and remove any old line. Once the head is clear, snap the cover assembly securely back into place (including the spring), making sure to align the arrow and hole with the top notch. Insert one end of your new line into the hole, feeding it straight through until it exits the opposite side. Pull the line so that both ends are of equal length. Reinstall the battery, then press and hold the button near the bump head to automatically wind the line. Finally, release the button once roughly 5.5 inches of line remains visible on each side.

That’s fine if your line is somewhat straight. My string was already spiraled, so I ended up opening the cover and manually threading the line through the white spindle, then the holes in the cover before replacing the cover with the spring. Finally, I pushed the InstaLoad button.

Once set up properly, the InstaLoad feature worked quickly. However, the cover assembly with the unattached spring was cumbersome and took several minutes to get just right. The spring needs to be permanently attached to one part of the bump head and should not just pop off when you remove the cover.

Performance & Battery Life

My backyard is slightly sloped and the grass tends to remain thick and wet around the fence line requiring a trim weekly.

During my first run, the trimmer started off slowly on the lowest gear but quickly ramped up as I put greater pressure on the trigger.

Unlike my Ryobi which requires a manual switch between high and low modes, the MOVA trimmer can adjust the rotation speed and gears on its own with its variable-speed trigger.

Additionally, you can manually choose from three separate speeds (4500/5000/5500 RPM) using the mode button. If using the manual option, the trimmer will remember which speed you selected during your last operation.

The trigger itself has a safety lock and there’s a display at the top of the trimmer that provides battery and operational information.

At 60 volts, the MOVA trimmer outperformed my 18-volt Ryobi by a long shot. 

The torque provided by the 900-watt motor combined with the longer 16” cutting width and thicker 0.095-inch line meant I needed far fewer passes to chew through the tough, wet grass near the edge.

By comparison, the 0.080-inch line on my Ryobi frequently breaks and jams inside the bump head, requiring constant manual adjustments.

While the 18-volt Ryobi isn’t in any way a fair comparison, it is worth noting that the MOVA trimmer did cut my backyard trimming time in half.

Although MOVA claims an IPX4 waterproof rating, I ended the initial test early due to rain to avoid any potential damage. The following day, I tested the battery's full capacity by running the trimmer in the default mode from a 100% charge until it completely died.

MOVA claims a maximum battery life of 40 minutes with the included battery. I found that close to accurate. I managed to get 34 minutes allowing the trimmer to adjust gears itself.

At this point, I have about 60 minutes of runtime on this trimmer, plenty sufficient to form a reliable first impression.

Weight and Comfort

By itself, the MOVA trimmer weighs 9.26 pounds. When you snap in the included 2.5A battery, which weighed 3.1 pounds on my scale, you’re looking at a total carrying weight of 12.36 pounds for the whole assembled kit.

The MOVA trimmer felt top-heavy and awkward to hold primarily because of its wide battery brushing up against my elbow. Attempts to adjust the handle and shaft length using the telescopic height-locking clamp didn’t help much.

That said, users coming from heavier, gas-powered models will likely appreciate the MOVA trimmer's lighter profile.

Warranty

MOVA includes a 6-year warranty with the 16-inch brushless string trimmer, but the battery only has a two-year warranty. This exceeds most house brands from big-box hardware retailers.

However, unlike those brands, you can’t just take the MOVA trimmer back to a retail store for a quick swap.

If possible, I’d recommend keeping your box and packing material to make any future warranty claims less of a hassle.

Final Thoughts

Although this was just an initial first few uses, the MOVA 16-inch brushless string trimmer has made a positive first impression.

The build quality is high, it has very little vibration, and it runs silently except for the whirring of the trimmer line. The trimmer appears to have plenty of power for home use and the marketed InstaLoad feature does work.

Based on my short experience, the MOVA 16-inch brushless trimmer is comparable to other brands in this class and appears to be a solid prosumer choice for those looking for an upgrade.

As always, look out for my usual 60-day review. I’ll be testing it in tougher yards to see how it holds up, and I'll report back on whether the unit becomes more comfortable to use over time.

MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD 60-Day Review: An All-Wheel-Drive Beast with Unbelievable Battery Life

This unit was purchased for personal use, and this review is not sponsored, approved or otherwise affiliated with MOVA.

For the last 60 days, I’ve been using the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD robotic mower as my primary lawn care equipment.

What sets the 3000 AWD apart from its less expensive siblings, is its sleek, race-car-like polycarbonate body, dual six-blade floating discs, four off-road wheels including two front omni wheels, four-motor all-wheel drive, independent wheel suspension, 36-volt battery and 15.8-inch cutting deck.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD begins its first mow of the season on a residential lawn.

The 3000 AWD measures 29.13 inches long, 20.94 inches wide and 12.64 inches tall, and it weighs 52 pounds. It can handle slopes up to 38.6 degrees (an 80 percent grade) and clears vertical obstacles like roots and rocks up to 2.4 inches tall.

That’s a 50 percent increase in vertical obstacle clearance and nearly double the real-world slope capability of the 2000.

All-Wheel-Drive Capability & Slope Performance

The unit has two omni wheels in the front that feature a series of smaller rollers aligned along the rim. These specialized wheels allow the mower to maneuver to the left or right without dragging or skidding on most soil types.

This prevents turf tearing, allows better navigation around tight areas and obstacles, and reduces power consumption.

While this is great if your soil is dry and solid, it can be a hindrance in sandy or muddy conditions. In my area, we have primarily clay soil. Clay drains poorly and can remain waterlogged and soft for days after a heavy rain.

During testing, the 3000 AWD rarely got stuck. However, when it did encounter soft soil, it tried to free itself rather than stopping right away. This left some ruts in the lawn and ended up packing the wheels with mud.

Mud accumulates on the robotic mower’s tires during operation in wet, clay-heavy soil.

Fortunately, the app has a maintenance point feature that allows you to summon the 3000 AWD to a special point on the map. Setting a maintenance point at my water spigot made the cleanup process so much easier.

To prevent this in the future, I divided my front and back lawn into multiple zones. This allowed the 3000 AWD to avoid those soft, questionable areas—such as around my fence line—and only mow known safe areas after a heavy rain.

My personal lawn is mostly flat and open with few natural obstacles. So, I took the 3000 AWD to a family member’s complex, rugged lawn that is filled with steep slopes, multiple tree roots and half-buried rocks.

The 3000 AWD had no trouble traversing this rough terrain. However, the blades occasionally did skim both the tree roots and rocks before stopping.

As the manual warns, do not rely on the 3000 AWD to automatically recognize cliffs, edges or other areas of concern that could damage your blade discs or mower deck.

Set up virtual boundaries before you begin your first mow to be safe. You can always remove them later.

The companion application allows users to establish virtual boundaries for the mower’s operating area.

Performance & Cut Quality

My lawn consists of roughly 9,500 square feet of Bermuda grass with some crab grass, dandelions and thistle mixed in (despite my best efforts).

We recently went through about two weeks of afternoon storms, and the lawn grew to a height of more than 4.5 inches between mowings.

Once the ground was dry enough, the 3000 AWD chopped through the sticky, damp Bermuda with no issue. I have yet to have the unit clog, despite Bermuda twigs constantly getting stuck between the blade disc and the razor blades.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD creates uniform striping patterns across the lawn.

​The 3000 AWD features UltraTrim 2.0, which allows the mower to shift its outer blade to mow up to 1.2-inches from the lawn edge.

Unfortunately, just like on the 2000, this feature is locked at a fixed height of 1.2 inches. That could be well below the typical mowing height for grasses like Kentucky Bluegrass, Tall Fescue or St. Augustine.

Even with Bermuda, I turned UltraTrim off because I maintain my lawn at 2 inches. Dropping down to 1.2 inches along the perimeter creates a jarring, visibly scalped border that stands out for the wrong reasons.

The UltraTrim 2.0 feature caused a scalped border in this particular zone.

Obstacle Avoidance

Like the 1000 and 2000, the 3000 AWD uses both 360-degree 3D LiDAR and AI-powered dual vision for navigation and obstacle avoidance. MOVA claims the 3000 AWD can detect up to 300 objects. However, obstacle avoidance is limited to objects with a height of 2-inches or higher. You can customize this setting in the app depending on your lawn and grass height.

The companion app includes multiple obstacle avoidance settings.

Even with the latest firmware (4.3.6_0269), I’ve found the 3000 AWD still misidentifies some weeds, like dandelions, as animals and will mow around them.

The mower’s navigation system misidentifies a dandelion seed head as a hedgehog with 86% certainty.

You can mitigate this issue by turning off obstacle avoidance for animals, manually controlling the unit or creating a "must-mow" zone in those weed-prone areas.

​This appears to be an area MOVA is working hard to improve. The 3000 AWD has received multiple firmware updates since I received it, addressing navigation, obstacle avoidance and edge-mowing behavior.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD's obstacle avoidance can now identify gutter downspouts and suggest automatic no-go zones.

As of the latest firmware update, I’ve been able to remove all the no-go zones I initially set weeks ago from the map except one.

A manual no-go zone is still required of this area due to a curb dip.

Battery Life

The battery life is an absolute standout.

MOVA claims that with its 7.5-amp-hour battery capacity, the 3000 AWD can mow up to 0.25 acres and run up to 170 minutes on a single charge.

Based on my experience, this is more than accurate. I can easily finish both my front and back lawn (roughly 0.33 acres) on a single charge with plenty of juice to spare.

Recharging time is around 60 minutes to go from a 15 percent battery level to a mostly full charge (90 percent or above).

The 3000 AWD uses a beefier, 5-amp charging station and is not compatible with charging stations from the 1000 or 2000. Additional 5-amp charging stations are not currently available for purchase on MOVA’s website.

Setup & Mapping

Setup and mapping are identical to previous models. You connect to the unit via Bluetooth, configure your Wi-Fi connection, create a PIN, and, barring any immediate firmware update, you can begin mapping right away.

The 3000 AWD can create two separate maps of up to 0.75 acres each. Within each map, you can create up to 150 zones.

However, unless you have a specific reason, you don’t need to map your front and back lawns separately. Pathways can be created to connect both lawns, even if they pass through a fence opening or cross dirt, gravel, tile or concrete.

Creating two separate maps not only uses up your map storage but also interferes with the scheduling feature, as you currently cannot set a single schedule across multiple maps.​

The system provides automatic and manual mapping options during initial setup.

Automatic AI-assisted mapping may work fine for smaller lawns or those with enclosed fencing. However, I found it to be highly insufficient for lawns with undefined edges, heavy obstacles or rough terrain like steep hills.

If you want the most accurate map possible for edge mowing, a manual map of your lawn is required.

Customizable App & Mowing Directions

The MOVAhome app is advanced, offering multiple mowing modes—including all-area, zone-only, edge, spot and manual—along with the ability to adjust the mowing height between 1.2 and 3.9 inches. No manual blade adjustment is required.

Unlike with other brands, you can split and combine zones virtually within the app and set virtual no-go zones without having to manually drive the mower.

Additionally, it supports the same mowing direction customization as the rest of the lineup, including automatic checkerboard and crisscross patterns.

The MOVAHome app has multiple mowing direction customizations.

The app is the most full-featured robotic mower app I’ve used so far.

What’s Included (and What’s Not)

In the box, you get the 3000 AWD, a charging station, lawn stakes, a power supply, a cleaning brush, a screwdriver, a lint-free cloth, a quick-start guide, the manual and 36 spare blades with matching screws.

The 3000 AWD package includes the mower, charging station, lawn stakes, and replacement blades.

You do not get the protective mower garage (#MMGM30) included. It’s available separately for $269 from MOVA’s website.

The less expensive mower garage (#MMGM10) may also fit. However, after purchasing, I was not satisfied with the durability or overall quality.

Warranty, Maintenance & Support

The 3000 AWD includes a three-year warranty. In the event of warranty service, you will be required to ship the unit back to a service center because there is no local dealer network available.

I recommend saving the original packaging material to make that process easier if needed.

Regular blade replacement is crucial. That’s why MOVA includes 36 extra blades (with screws) in the box.

Personally, I found it much easier (and safer) to change the 12 blades by removing the two blade discs from the underside of the mower entirely.

Removing the discs regularly allows you to clean out packed debris, wipe down the deck, and check for wear and tear on the blade discs.

Unfortunately, on my unit, the mounting screws for the blade discs were covered in hardened, blue thread-locking adhesive (Loctite) and overtightened at the factory to the point where I found them incredibly difficult to remove.

I ended up stripping two of the six mounting screws while removing.​

MOVA customer service, while friendly, has been unable to assist because the screws are not currently available as a shippable part. They could only offer a complete unit replacement.

This is unacceptable. Robotic lawnmowers are going to be outside in humid, dirty and rugged environments. Parts are going to need to be replaced periodically. MOVA Support should have a supply of something as simple as a mounting screw to send to customers as needed.

Based on trial and error, the three mounting screws securing each individual blade disc to the mower appear to be M4x14mm SEMS screws (possibly 15mm). MOVA customer service insisted they are 8mm. That’s incorrect. SEMS screws come with a permanently attached split lock washer to prevent accidental removal from vibration and are not readily available at most hardware stores. I sourced mine from an online bolt and screw supplier.

MOVA does sell a replacement blade disc on their website for $79.99 that includes blades. Even with the steep pricing, only the set of six blade-to-disc mounting screws are included, not the three disc-to-mower mounting screws.

Pro Tip: When reassembling the blade discs, I used purple thread-locking adhesive (Loctite) instead of blue. It holds the screws in place just as well for this application but is significantly easier to break loose later.

The 36-volt battery is user replaceable. However, it’s not yet available to purchase on MOVA’s website. Only the 1000/2000 battery is currently available.

Final Thoughts

In my last review, I called this a hot product category. That was an understatement. The sheer volume of robotic mowers that have flooded the market this summer is extraordinary.

Having previously owned three other smart robotic mowers, I can confidently say the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD is an absolute beast.​

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD glistens in the sunlight.

It is purpose-built for hilly, rugged, and highly complex landscapes.

If your lawn is flat and uniform, this machine is likely overkill—unless you're a power user, like me, and want the sheer battery capacity to knock out both your front and backyard on a single charge.

But for anyone dealing with demanding terrain, the 3000 AWD’s combination of dual six-blade cutting discs, high-traction all-wheel drive, and tank-like build quality makes it a worthy contender in its price range.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD retails for $2,999 and is available on MOVA’s website, Amazon and various resellers.

Because pricing varies across Amazon, MOVA, and third-party vendors, tracking multiple channels is recommended. This unit was purchased for $2499 directly with a promotional wet/dry vacuum.

Unable to get my new Mova Viax 500 to use a set pathway.

Hey guys I just got my Mova Viax 500 which is supposed to be "Smart" not the case right now, I'm trying to get it to go around my walkway and to the other side of my yard automatically but it can't do it I even created a Pathway, anyone know how I can edit the robots system where it detects obstacles because another part of my yard has recently been repaired with those grass rolls and it thinks part of the grass as an obstacle kind of disappointed on its first day.

For the past few months, I’ve been testing the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000. It’s the first wire-free robotic mower I’ve used that integrates both vision and LiDAR technologies without the need for RTK.

Previously, I used the Eufy E15, which uses vision only, to mostly supplement, not replace, my push mower and an early Husqvarna wire unit.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 is robust with a thick, polycarbonate shell, off-road rear-wheel drive wheels and the ability to handle up to 1.6-inch obstacles, like tree roots or limbs, and up to 26-degree slopes.

The build quality of this unit is high. It weighs around 30 pounds and feels genuinely beefy and well put together. You’re not going to be worried about it breaking in a tough yard filled with small rocks or twigs.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 is also packed with features including an in-app adjustable cutting height between 1.2 and 3.9 inches, advanced obstacle avoidance which MOVA claims has the ability to detect and avoid more than 300 objects, a 1080p HDR RGB camera (that can take stills and record video) and an extendable cutting disc that allows the mower to cut within two inches of certain edges.

Many of these features were previously only included on mid- and upper-tier robotic lawnmowers.

Setup

Setup was straightforward and relatively easy. The unit came well packaged with the charging tower, baseplate, power supply with extension cable, lawn stakes, extra blades, cleaning brush and a few other miscellaneous accessories (screwdriver, cleaning cloth, LiDAR cover, etc.).

Notably absent is a protective housing or garage. MOVA sells two different versions of the garage on their website, a standard MMGM10 model available for $169 USD and a more robust MMGM20 model available for $229. Both garages should fit the LiDAX Ultra 2000 mower. 

The quick-start guide was easy to understand and showed how to assemble the charging station and connect the power supply. Attaching the charging tower to the baseplate requires some force, so be careful. The extension cable is long, easily 30 or more feet.

After you place the mower in the charging station, the unit will start and you will be prompted to select your language and create a passcode. You can then scan your mower’s QR code and add it to your app.

The app will walk you through connecting your mower to your home Wi-Fi network via Bluetooth. It also uses Bluetooth for direct control and manual mapping.

Additionally, the mower has built-in cellular for areas where your home Wi-Fi may be spotty or incomplete. You will be prompted to activate it automatically once you complete the setup process.

There’s also a convenient Bluetooth connect icon at the top left of the screen in case your mower is outside your Wi-Fi coverage area or has poor cellular for direct control.

Total setup time is maybe 15 to 20 minutes not including any additional firmware updates you may need to install. I would suggest you keep the unit and charging station in an area of your yard with a strong Wi-Fi signal for the initial firmware updates.

Mapping

There are two modes available for mapping, manual and auto. In manual mode, you walk behind and control the mower using the onscreen joystick and Bluetooth connection. It builds your map in real time. To close your map boundary, you just return to your starting point.

Pro Tip: While the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 is only rated for half an acre, you can set up two separate half-acre maps (like a front or back yard) and swap between them. This is also useful in cases where your front or back yard may not connect or have a gate between them. Just keep in mind, the base station will need to be in the area of each map in order to finish the mapping process. There’s no “pick it up and drop it” function.

In auto mode, you pick a starting point and the AI-assisted auto mode takes over and performs a perimeter sweep around your yard.

While each mode is slightly different, the app walks you through both modes step by step.

For my backyard, I chose the AI-assisted auto mode because my entire yard is fenced in. It performed as expected. However, I had to adjust a tricky area around my wooden gate by manually adding a zone to the map.

The app immediately recognized the additional zone and combined it with the main map.

For the front yard, I chose the manual mode since my front yard is conjoined with my neighbors’ yards on each side. While not as easy as the auto mode, it didn’t take long and no fine-tuning of the map was needed afterward.

If you want the most precision and closest edge mow possible, choose the manual mode. On curbs and edges, you will need to manually drive the mower slightly over those areas in order to make sure they’re covered.

Pro Tip: When doing your initial mapping, the outer edge should be on the left side if you’re standing behind the mower, despite what the manual sometimes shows. Otherwise you will not get the best edging possible.

Warning: UltraTrim only trims edges at a fixed height of 3cm (around 1.1 inch). If you have longer grass such as Kentucky Bluegrass, Tall Fescue, Ryegrass, St. Augustine, etc. be aware that utilizing the UltraTrim feature may cut your grass much shorter than you typically set your blade height to. Additionally, if you plan on splitting up a large piece of your yard into multiple zones and UltraTrim is enabled, you may get a boundary cut around each zone at 3cm.

Scheduling and App Settings

If you have used any MOVA products before, you know the MOVAhome app is full of features and customizable settings. There’s no difference here.

The app offers settings for mowing efficiency, height, direction, edging and various obstacle avoidance settings including adjustments for edges, LiDAR, height, AI and distance.

Additionally, you can set custom settings for each zone you create (front, back, side, etc.).

The scheduling feature of the app is detailed, allowing you to create multiple plans that include task types such as all areas, certain zones or even just edge mowing. You can then set the day (or days) and time.

You can also customize mowing direction. The app allows you use an arrow selector to set a specific angle for each mow or you can choose between two automatic direction modes, crisscross and checkerboard.

Crisscross will automatically adjust the mowing direction on your next session 45 degrees from the current session.

Checkerboard is similar, except it will automatically set your next session 90 degrees from the current session.

When activated, these two modes should help prevent ruts from forming and provide a healthier and nicer looking cut to your grass.

Performance

Rain or shine, the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 has performed well in my 60 days of ownership.

While my Bermuda grass is just now starting to thicken up, the LiDAX Ultra 2000 has had no trouble mowing anything I’ve thrown at it so far. Its three-blade disc has managed to cut thick weeds, dandelions, clover and other wild grasses growing in my yard this spring in both dry and damp soil conditions.

I expect it will perform just as well with my thick Bermuda. If not, I’ll be sure to update my review.

At least in my experience, the LiDAX Ultra 2000 does not seem to have the back wheel turf tearing issue I’ve seen reported on other brands’ models.

The mower and charging station have both managed to survive through multiple weather changes these last few months including thunderstorms with heavy rain, high winds and both hot (92 degrees and above) and cold (below freezing) outdoor temperatures.

I have since moved the unit under my covered porch for more long-term protection from the sun and elements, but previously had it anchored below the porch near my steps with the garage attached.

The screw-in lawn stakes held up well and prevented the charging station and garage from any unexpected movement.

Pro Tip: If you’re not sure where exactly to place your charging station at first, I would suggest you use metal lawn stakes because they’re much easier to remove from the ground.

I also used the unit through a few unconventional scenarios including mowing in the dark, mowing in heavy rain and having it go up a steep ramp to my covered porch to find its charging station.

It met or exceeded my expectations during each of the three scenarios.

Pro Tip: If you use the pathway feature to have it climb a steep ramp, use caution. The LiDAX Ultra 2000 does not always take the exact pathway you set even if you enable the direct path navigation feature in settings. Make sure your ramp either has side barriers or is extra wide to prevent tumbles and falls. While I had good results with the ramp in the picture, that ramp in is not wide enough to be considered fail-safe.

Availability and Accessories

Unlike many of the other brands, MOVA has released multiple accessories for the LiDAX series, ensuring an ecosystem of consumables are available at launch. All prices are in U.S. dollars.

-       Cleaning kit, which includes a protective glove, cleaning liquid, polishing cloth, screwdriver, scrub brush and adhesive strips, $39.99.

-       Blade kit, which includes 12 replacement blades, $24.99.

-       Replacement battery (18V) 5Ah, $109.

-       Link module with one year of service for 1000 owners, $119.

-       Additional charging station, 3A, $299.

-       Six-blade cutting disc, $79.99.

-       Robotic garage, MMGM10, $169.

-       Robotic garage (Rugged), MMGM20, $229.

Of note, the six-blade cutting disc may allow LiDAX Ultra 1000 and 2000 owners to upgrade their three-blade disc to six-blades in the future.

Limitations & Areas of Improvement

The LiDAX Ultra 2000’s obstacle avoidance and recognition, while good, is not perfect. Taller weeds like dandelions are frequently misidentified and left unmowed.

Running firmware 4.3.6_0231, the LiDAX Ultra 2000 still does not recognize gutter extensions or downspouts, which can cause the unit to get stuck or run over the top of those obstacles. Additionally, the mower also failed to avoid my dryer exhaust pipe and HVAC condensation line that both stick out from the exterior of my home.

However, you can set a no-go zone to address these issues. In fact, the app will recommend no-go zones automatically for any obstacles it encounters that it deems reoccurring.

In a future hardware revision, I would like to see a small LED headlight for use during nighttime mowing and to assist with dark or shade-covered sections of the yard. Additionally, an increase in slope capability would be helpful for smaller yards that do not need the full capability of the LiDAX Ultra 3000 AWD.

Final Thoughts

This is a hot category, but MOVA’s LiDAX Ultra 2000 appears to be priced competitively and features an array of advanced features not always found on similarly priced models from other brands.

The app itself is full-featured and more advanced than any other robotic mower app I've used.

Setup and mapping were easy, performance has been excellent so far and I’m looking forward to using it throughout this summer as I manage multiple yards of different sizes and terrain.

All in all, the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 is a versatile wire-free robotic mower that’s built well, reliable and priced aggressively making it a highly welcomed upgrade over my Eufy E15.

The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 has an MSRP of $1799 USD (with recent sale pricing around $1499). It’s currently available directly from MOVA and from partner retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon.
