Hi, I'm just a noob here, so may I know is it ok to use an external HDD for storage for my home server? I found that a 2 TB external hdd costs an equivalent of USD $116, meanwhile a WD red hdd costs an equivalent of USD $144 excluding an HDD reader that costs USD $38.

Does the WD red HDD last longer than the external HDD? Or maybe is the external HDD slower than the WD red HDD?
