I get that Unquestionable Presence is unquestionably (pun intended) prog death, but would their debut also fall under that label as well? It sounds like techier death metal that I’d reluctantly call tech death, but doesn’t really have too much of a prog sound to it. Maybe I’m just not well versed enough in prog, but it’s not screaming Opeth, Cynic, or later Death to me. What’s the consensus here?

If you had to introduce someone to beatdown hardcore, what EPs/albums would you recommend as essentials? Think of it like an audio history lesson to the genre. Feel free to include newer bands if you feel they’ve become essential enough. Looking for bands that are as close as possible to PURE beatdown hardcore. Bands that can be otherwise classified as metalcore, deathcore, crossover thrash, hardcore, etc. need not be listed.

If you had to explain to someone using only albums what progressive death metal was, what albums would you consider absolutely essential? I’m going for as pure sound as possible so I’m trying to avoid bands that also fall into tech death although I know there can be a lot of crossover between the two sub-genres.

I’d say it’s mostly agreed upon that deathcore is fusion of metalcore and death metal, but there are plenty that further reduce it to hardcore specifically ignoring the metal influence that metalcore brings to the table. Hardcore and metalcore go hand in hand obviously, but are fundamentally two different genres at the end of the day. That being said, you usually hear about the death metal and metalcore bands cities as influences, but hardly ever actual hardcore bands. Also deathcore bands are commonly either mistaken for death metal or metalcore, but rarely for hardcore.

Also, when I say hardcore I don’t mean hardcore leaning metalcore, I mean proper hardcore that cannot under any circumstances be confused for metalcore. It has to actually sound like a punk genre with punk riffs. This would be bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Sick Of It All, etc. Metalcore in this case also refers to that OG metalcore style to include bands like Earth Crisis, Hatebreed, Disembodied, etc. and not to melodic metalcore, scenecore, etc.

Are they saying things like:

“Damn, I could really go for some American tonight.”

“We should go to that new American spot they opened up downtown.”

“If you’re looking for some authentic American, you gotta visit Jerry’s Grill over on 8th.”

We always see Big 4 of metalcore in general or melodic metalcore so I figured why not explore the sub-genres too. Who would you say constitute progressive metalcore?

This is serious, but also not serious, but also mostly serious.

We’re going this weekend for the second time and I wasn’t really impressed with the food at the actual faire last year. It was too expensive, had super long lines, and not as in theme as I would’ve liked aside from the turkey legs and meat pies. We live in Tacoma and are traveling up to Snohomish, but I was hoping to get some suggestions for more medieval themed food spots or places that would be fit for a king (or queen) in the general area. If it helps, this weekend is Viking themed so bonus points if it matches that! Thanks!

I’ve been listening to the greatest hit/essential albums of melo death to really get a better grip on the genre. I’ve listened to melo death in passing, but never really deep dived it and experienced the OG albums in their full glory. I’ve listened to the following and am currently on Children of Bodom and afterwards moving onto Wintersun’s debut album.

Upon first hearing CoB come on, they sound pretty different from the rest of these bands. Every band in this list has their own unique style, but sound similar enough where melo death is the best genre without adding anything else to it. Now for CoB, I can definitely hear melo death riffs, but I’m mostly hearing neoclassical and virtuoso type power metal more than anything else so far. I also have a quick listen to Wintersun and they have the same style as well. What’s the consensus on these types of bands? Can they really be called melo death or is there something more here?

There’s plenty of examples of deathcore bands becoming metalcore bands, but I’m interested in the opposite. What’re some of your favorite bands that were started out metalcore and became deathcore?

I’m replacing all my handles and door locks for my home. Kwikset had the most aesthetically pleasing and affordable stuff, but I hear nothing but bad things about them especially regarding their smart locks. Due to this I was thinking of going full Schlage, but it’s costing almost three to four times the amount of Kwikset. Would it be advisable to use Kwikset handles for interiors like bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, etc. and for the more secure doors like the entry and back door use Schlage? Would there be cross compatibility issues in regard to keys or anything else I may not know about?

Aside from Eternally Yours, what’re some good metalcore or just general metal/rock song suggestions for walking down the aisle?
