MiniPC for BG3 and batocera?

I'm not sure why this was removed last time. I'm trying again without the link I included before.

I want to purchase a mini pc for my boyfriend. It should be able to run BG3 and batocera (which I imagine is much less intensive?). I cannot for the life of me read these specs. Reddit searches turn up such highly specific suggestions that are either not available anymore or are so expensive (thousands) that I can't afford it at all. When I google how to read the specs, it's all sponsored videos pushing specific graphics cards and not neutral suggestions.

I'd welcome specific guides if folks don't want to spell it out for me (and they aren't 95% adverts) or any specific models that are capable of running these. I really appreciate your help.

Ideally, it would be less than 1k but if it's 6-800 that's of course best.

Update to VCU medical weight loss

I posted here like maybe 8 months ago asking if anyone had been to this clinic. I finally had my appointment, so I figured I'd update in case anyone ever comes searching for similar information.

Wow, the head MD is an asshole. She was rude, abrasive, and judgmental. You'd think someone trained to support people in weight loss would have a little compassion for their patients. No, not at all.

The staff members were nice. The screening process was lengthy. And the wait was ~8 months. Take all of that for what you will.

Anywho, I'm looking for a different clinic. Cheers to taking care of ourselves.

Diagnosed but not convinced (unsure if this is the right place)

I was diagnosed with BED this week. I'm still pretty shocked. I don't want to upset anyone here by talking too specifically about habits. But has anyone been diagnosed and didn't feel it was correct at first? Am I in denial here? My doctor sent me a podcast to listen to, and I didn't relate. I guess I'm just confused.

Looking for simple/basic sit-stand without memory settings

Maybe it's just me, but I do not want to buy a desk with the memory settings. I don't know why, but they bother me. Anyway, I have a sit-stand at work with one lever that goes up when lifted, down when pushed. However, I cannot find one online at all. I tried searching this sub and still can't seem to find it. Any help?

Edit: I realized I should've included specs. I am looking for a 55" W, 45" deep desk. I found one that matches, but it is somehow more expensive than the ones with memory ($550). I am hoping to spend less than $500.

Looking for experiences with a micromanager

I've been with my company for 2 years. We had a leadership change about a year ago. I've been trying to ride it out, but I think I hit my breaking point today.

I've been an analyst for 8 years, 10 years in service prior to that. I'm not a kid, I know what I'm doing, and I'm decent at it overall.

My boss actually asked me about a month ago what she can do to "make the analysts think like analysts," with a straight face. I am an analyst. I do, in fact, think like one.

Today, I was in a meeting with her and she was just condescending to me explaining how a data pull takes a little time but interpretation takes longer. I'm not a fresher. I know how to do my job and what takes what effort. In fact, we all do. None of the analysts are new to the field.

This is indicative of her management style. It finally hit me today that this is my future if I stay here. I've been waiting for her to adjust to the new role, learn to trust us, be less hands on. But today I realized that day is not coming.

Partially, this is a vent. Partially, I'm looking for advice. Would you bail? In this market? Try for a new field? I can't go on like this... it's so fucking disrespectful of my expertise and time.

Rabbit seizures

My bun began having seizures this week. Wondering if anyone else has been through this. He is being treated for pasteurella and e cuniculi now. So far the meds aren't upsetting his stomach too too badly but we're keeping a close eye.

Not my first rodeo with a sick rabbit, but I gotta say, this week I cried more than I have in years.

To sell the house or not to sell the house?

I've been wavering on whether or not to sell my home for a few months.

My current mortgage is ~1,700. I pay 1k of that (roommate). Includes taxes and insurance escrow. I make about $2700 per paycheck after health insurance and an HSA.

Since buying the house, I've accrued ~14k in debt from fixing shit just wasn't prepared for. Inspection missed a hell of a lot and then I guess I just got fucking unlucky. HVAC went. Plumbing went (3 times). Pet got deathly sick. Car broke down several times. Needed a new fridge. Had to replace the meter base for the power connection to the house. And now the roof is threatening to be a reason I'm uninsurable. But I can't afford to fix it. My car is also starting to make new fun noises.

I'll admit until recently I've been just shit with my money too. No reason to hide it. I justify eating out and I've gained a lot of weight so I needed new clothes and bought new instead of thrifting. So yeah I got unlucky but I also probably racked on 5k I didn't need to over the past 2 years.

I do not want to trade my stability in my house with renting again. But I don't know what else to do. I've owned for exactly two years. I'm worried interest rates will never drop. I'm worried the market is going to go down and I'll be under water. I'm just fucking worried.

I feel like I was woefully unprepared for this house. Just because you can buy and the bank will let you doesn't mean you should gues I learned that the hard way.

Not sure what else to say. Should I just get out while I can? If I sell now I stand to break even. I can pay my debt I accrued. And since I was given a grant for down and closing, I won't lose those.

Should I negotiate a higher rate for a new position?

My job promoted me yesterday. Yay! We've been discussing this change since February. The thing is, they offered me 6%. About 5k a year. This doesn't sound so bad, except that the going rate for such a position (data program manager) in my area is about 115k median. The proposed raise brings me to 90.

Now, the last person to hold this position at my org apparently made around 90, so I fear the precedent was set. Also, I work for the government so I know the salaries are less competitive overall. Still, I'm not exactly pleased to be in the 25th percentile.

Any thoughts? How to negotiate if I decide to do so? Asking for that big of a bump seems crazy, but I know how my org works, and if I don't get the substantial raise now, I never will.

Anyone here make the transition from analyst to product owner/manager?

I am an analyst with ~7 YoE. I am interested in moving into product, and I was wondering if anyone here made that transition. I searched the PM sub, but it doesn't seem like a big discussion there. One suggestion I got on their career thread was to aim for data product owner/manager positions. I found one such role, and I applied, so we'll see, but it seems like the data specific roles are few and far between.

On another note, I am applying for analyst positions, too (current job is a bore), and man, it's tough out there. Keep fighting the good fight, folks.

Harmless hot takes, a daily

Good morning, Richmond. It's my first daily!

I thought it would be fun to post our harmless hot takes. Something you believe strongly about Richmond, food, or whatever, that is technically a hot take but ultimately inconsequential.

I'll go first: guinea pigs are the superior pet to cats and dogs. Alright, I have a guinea pig, maybe I'm biased. But they're cuter. I said it!

I made a mistake buying my house, and I feel stuck

I'm house poor. Like, I don't even want to admit it. I made a mistake. Okay, I know this. I ended up with a money pit, and I am tapped out.

I thought I could do this. I was wrong. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I get it.

I have to wait until the end of the year to sell because of capital gains. Hope I can hold out until then.

This has been a vent. Thanks for reading.

Never thought I'd miss renting. Here we are.

I've been tapering off of vraylar for months. Please tell me this gets better.

I started my taper off of vraylar last fall. It was fine at first. Went from 6 to 4.5. Eh, no effect. Left it there for 3 months. Went from 4.5 to 3, fine for a while... until I decidedly was not.

I have taken vraylar for probably 7 years. I've been at 6mg since 2021ish. All the experiences I read are from people having side effects after either going down too quickly or who are going onto it and have a hard time. There must be someone else who took this med for a long time and now doesn't anymore.

I have no interest in my hobbies. I'm not full on depressed, I get up. I do the dishes. It's not horrible, until the days when it is. I sit staring at the wall. I walk in circles in my house trying to think of any old thing to do. Yet I cannot bear to do any of the things I love. Even when I can bring myself to do things, I do not enjoy them. The only thing that brings me any feeling is eating, so I've gained so much weight even just recently. I fit none of my clothes except the stretchy ones.

It's starting to affect my relationships. I'm negative, bitter, and do not enjoy anything. I can't imagine that's fun to be around.

Today I threw a tantrum like a child. I screamed and cried and slammed things. At least I was alone. But I am really fucked in the head right now.

I've been tapering for about 9 months. We thought doing very slowly would make it easy. Well that was wrong. I am terrified of going any lower.

Please, someone, tell me you got off of this medication and this passed for you.

Dominion underground lines

I was contacted today regarding Dominion's underground line project. I am 100% fine with granting an easement as I am excited to no longer lose power regularly. I hope my neighbors feel the same way. The contractor collecting signatures said she only had agreement from about 25% of homeowners, though she is early in the process. I hope the homeowners agree as it is an important upgrade for the neighborhood.

That being said, they specifically asked me to put an above ground transformer on my lawn. I'm inclined to take one for the team - it has to go somewhere, right? And she implied it needed to be either my next door neighbors or my house. Who knows how true that is, though.

I told her I needed to sleep on it. The designer will be following up with me to give me a better sense of it. They also offered to include landscaping around it to minimize the eyesore, which I appreciate. I don't have kids or dogs, so I'm not concerned about that, thankfully.

However, this is likely not my forever home. I need to consider this carefully. I live on Southside. My neighborhood isn't exactly fancy, and my home value isn't exactly high as it is. Now, I've done some improvements and it's worth more than it used to be, but I worry that the transformer might decrease the likelihood of maximum returns should I sell. I feel like I sound like a greedy jerk, but I put so much into buying this house. It's my only asset. So I worry.

Anyone else in the city going through this? Anyone want to encourage me to either think of the neighborhood (or just be a NIMBY and say no?)? - just need more insight.

Edit to add: last post on this topic was 2 years ago and slightly different, so I hope it's okay to post.

House sparrows took my bluebird box

I've looked around a bit online, but I wanted to get direct advice on a few questions.

I put up a bluebird house for the bluebird couple I've observed in my yard. They took to the box immediately. This morning I saw house sparrows had taken over.

It's my understanding that I can remove the house sparrows. Is this correct? How can I be sure it is a house sparrow?

How do I actually remove it? Gloves? Do I need a mask? Any other info about how to remove?

How do I keep the sparrows from taking it in the future? There are a few bluebird couples who live in my back yard area. I've seen at least 2 couples (they were both present at once so I know there at least 2 couples).

Thank you

Last year I decided at 238lb it was finally time to lose the weight. 30F, 5'9". I'll spare you the sob story, but I lost 20lbs then slowly started eating like crap again, and now I'm 250lb. Even my fat clothes don't fit me right now.

I keep thinking, if only I hadn't stopped, I'd be X weight now.

I know this isn't helpful thinking, but I feel totally defeated. I felt so free when I started counting calories. I could eat without shame because I knew how much I really ate. I made room for chocolate and burgers. It was really nice, and I was losing predictably.

I saw posts here about yo yo dieting, and I just didn't get it. I thought it wouldn't be me. Now here I am. A typical statistic.

Idk what to do. Counting again feels necessary but impossible. I have to lose over 100lbs. I can't even believe that typing it. 100lbs. I was always the skinny kid and in my 20s, it felt effortless (until it didn't).

Anyway, I am beginning again. But I'd love to hear from anyone who had a false start then lost it. Or just whatever encouragement you have for me. I feel defeated.

Edit: thank you everyone. These comments bring a lot of comfort.
