My Husband Was Blown Up and Now Has a TBI
My (21M) husband (26M & clean from smoking, coke, and alcohol if that has any relevance) is having to medically retire from the Army later this month. He was involved in an explosion that cracked his tank helmet in half and caused him to get pretty badly cut up from shrapnel on his body. He has had multiple concussions throughout his army career, but this has been the worst one obviously.
I have noticed that he drools and has trouble speaking/articulating himself. He has also started struggling to process his emotions and has memory issues. This can sometimes put a strain on our marriage because he will not remember doing/saying something and assumes that I’m messing with him or trying to be mean. There are times as well that random things will upset him and I feel like the only thing I can do is let him be upset. He will also be kind of spontaneous at times.
ETA: He also sees/hears things at times
I am wondering if I can get some advice on dealing with this as I will be his caretaker when he retires. What testing should we get done? What should we watch out for? How can we improve his symptoms? Things we can do at home? Treatments to seek out? Any other advice?
