If you're looking for a sewing table visit your big box hardware store.

I'm in the process of doing a major reorganization of our basement and I needed more work surfaces. I first saw YouTube channel NeverTooMany using hardware store tables last year and decided to try killing two birds with one stone. A table that I can set up a machine on but also use for general home projects.

What I bought
I bought the 46" adjustable height table from Home Depot. Lowes has a similar but smaller 42" table that also comes in pink which looks really sharp. The HD Table also comes in multiple sizes up to 72 inches long. The cost was just under $300.

What I like.
I was able to assemble this solo but if you have a second set of hands it will go faster. The instructions were excellent and it came with both wheels and plain feet.
The work surface is large enough to put a 18x24 cutting mat with no issues, You can squeeze a 24x36 mat but it just fits.
The table is more than sturdy enough for any of my 3 machines. That includes my 1950's Pfaff 230.
The height range is huge and the crank mechanism is smooth.
26 in. to 39 in. H when using the included leveling feet
29 in. to a 42 in. H when using the included casters

What I don't like.
The drawers are shallow. You have just over 2 inches of clearance. The tin for my vintage Pfaff just clears the top after the liners are installed.
The hand crank is slow. It takes a while to get from the lowest to highest position. It's not difficult just tedious.
The table came without drawer liners. HD is pretty good about including liners on even their cheapest tool storage. I have no idea why they skipped it on this product.

I plan to use this for a variety of tasks over the next few weeks. I have to knitting machines I'm refurbishing and I have to do maintenance on my 3d printer. Feel free to ask any questions.

Helping your future self to get up and sewing faster

If you're like me you have more time and energy on some days versus others. If you're like me in another way you may have more fabric specifically quilting cotton than a rational person may need.

For me i've found that boxed corner zipper pouches are a quick and easy win and they make cute gifts & gift bags. On my high energy days I've been cutting up fat quarters into a convenient zipper pouch size. Today I interfaced them.

Now I can grab 2 coordinating pieces from each bag and a zipper. Maybe I'll quilt the outer layer. Maybe'll use four different pieces of fabric. Maybe I'll play with color blocking. The point is that I'm starting several steps ahead and that means I have more energy to play around.

With Christmas being only 172 days from now it also give me ample time to stock pile just in case gifts for when your third cousin brings his new girlfriend who no one was expecting to the family dinner and you don't want them to feel left out.

Bowl Cozies adjusting for pasta bowls.

We had new neighbors move in and they've already helped clear some overgrowth between our yard. I handed over a dozen cookies but I'd like to make bowl cozies in two different styles. The pictured cozies are 10inch x 10inch with 2 inch long by 1 inch deep darts. I'd like to make two like this and two that are shallower for wider pasta bowls.

How would I adjust the darts?

Walking foot for a vintage Pfaff?

I'd like to get a walking foot to use with my Pfaff 30 & 230? I don't want to buy an Amazon/Temu special just to find out it's not compatible or garbage.

Controller recommendation for Baldur's Gate 3 M5 MB Air

I haven't gained heavily since the first Xbox. I picked up a 15" MB Air M5 with a 16gb of ram on Friday before the price increase. What's the recommendations for a controller for Mac gaming?
Wired or wireless? I'm pretty much done with fast twitch FPS games at this stage in my life as an FYI.

Has anyone ordered the "Scrap Packs" from Fabscrap in Brooklyn?

I ordered a denim and leather scrap pack from Fabscrap a few days ago and I'm wondering what to expect. I know the pieces will be less than 1 square foot and that the total product weight is 1 pound. I'm hopping the have enough to piece into a the out layer of a tote of some sort.

The price was $12 each so I'm not worried about feeling ripped off. I'm just curious what people have gotten in the past.

Anyone really into Macro / Nature photography? I may have a tripod for you.

Edit - THESE ARE FREE BUT REALY SPECIALIZED TRIPODS.

I have a couple of specialist tripods gathering dust in my basement and I don't see myself using them anytime soon.

The first one is a Benbo, I believe it's a MK1 made in the UK. If you click on the link you'll see you can do some amazingly weird shit with one. Add a ball head and focusing rail and you can get some really unique shots.

I also have a Hasselblad branded set of legs originally intended for videography in the 1980's. Super sturdy with a supported center column. I'd think with modern rigs it might be over engineered or better for lights.

You could not ask for a better day for Lancaster Pride

I was a little concerned about the Pride Festival moving back to the Ballpark. I had only attended at the convention center but it was darn near perfect. The weather was amazing and the vendors felt more spaced out. I'm not sure how things went for the trucks and vendors outside the stadium. That part felt a bit weird because I assume you'd have to go back through security to reenter the festival.

Is this the replacement to my beloved LÄKEMALVA?

I was at Ikea today stocking up on the LÄKEMALVA fabric before it disappears when I saw & yes purchased this new item SANDMOTT. Does the hive mind think they'll sell it as fabric? While it's cute I'll miss the bold orange of the original.

Can we agree that no theme songs go as hard as Sentai/mecha themes.

I'm watching LIGHTSPEED ELECTROID ALBEGAS for the fist time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ezb28kjbfM8

But you have Macross, Godannar, Gatchaman, Bubblegum Crisis, Yamato (Probably more Space Opera). So many songs that just go for it.

I just tried out the "New" Pfaffs

The 230 is great. I haven't played with the decorative stitches but the straight stitch and zig zag look great on 4 layers of heavy cotton.

As for the 30, I'm not sure if I'm in love or fear of my life. She went through eight layers of denim without slowing down.

The 230 is definitely quieter and maybe more refined but I think the 30 would sew through an I-beam if it fit under the presser foot.

I used Mara 70 thread (tex 40) for the tests and they both had #16 needles.

What thread weights do you use in your construction and top stitching?

I just adopted two mid 1950's Pfaff machines. They were both set up with Tex 70 thread and that's what got me asking the question. Most of what I've been making is with Text 30 & 40. I haven't explored vinyls or cork yet.

It's 10:30 am my time. I'm off until Monday. I'm working on a cranky 70 year old German sewing machine. What should be playing on the TV as I deal with Gustav? Detail in the comments

I have no plans today other than cleaning after I get Gustav* to behave himself. My spouse will be out until around 9pm

I have Hulu, Disney +, Netflix & Apple TV.

I'm a sucker for Giant Robots and Super Sentai type shows. What can I say I came of age in the 1980's

*Gustav is a mid 1950's Pfaff 230. He's not a fan of modern cross wound thread. He's getting a thread stand today that should eliminate future issues. However, We had a jam up that needed clearing and required some minor disassembly. Neither of us are happy about it.

I took a chance on a random eBay listing for Pfaff accessories!

I got a Pfaff 30 & 230 last week and each came with a single presser foot. I was browsing eBay and found this listing. The price with shipping was $55 dollars but I like the tin and the narrow zipper foot seems for $26 by itself so I took a chance. Here' what I got.

  1. Random made in Japan ruffler foot (Boo)
  2. Pfaff 41350 zipper/quilting foot
3)Pfaff 45037 straight stitch foot with a pivot
    4)Pfaff 41248 rolled hem foot
    5)Pfaff 46241 rolled hem foot X1.5
    6)Pfaff 41246 rolled hem foot ... I'm sensing a theme
7)Pfaff 41242 Felling foot. I had no idea a special foot existed for felling
    8)Pfaff 42497 buttonhole foot
    9)Pfaff 46121 cording foot
    10)Pfaff 46120 Button Presser foot
11)Pfaff 41251 feed dog cover. Which I don't need for either machine.
12)Pfaff 41297 Seam guide. Sadly missing its thumb screw. Does anyone know the size and pitch?

Not pictured but I also received a hook that's stamped with Pfaff but no number.
It's got a shepherd's crook on one end and a right angle at the other. I have no idea what it's for. I'm guessing it's one of those "If you know you know" items.

overall I'm really happy with the purchase. I doubt I need 3 (or 1) rolled hem feet but the zipper and straight stitch foot make it feel worthwhile and it all came in a cool tin.

I found this MC picnic suitcase on FB marketplace.

We can’t justify buying it. We’re actually decluttering and I recently brought home to mid 1950’s Pfaff sewing machines. It’s really neat and I hope it finds a home.

Maybe a weird question. 1970's - 80's vintage anime bed sets, do they exist.

When I was a kid I had a set of Pacman sheets and a space invaders bed spread. Yes, I was a child during the 1980's video game boom why do you ask? It was also common to find most popular cartoon charecters bedding. My sister had a Smurfs bed set and at some point we had old even by my standards Super Friends blanket with Wendy & Marvin.

Which brings me to anime. I've gotten into bag making and I'm not sure if these were ever a thing either in the US or Japan. Even a pillow case is a good amount of fabric for a tote bag or accents on a crossbody. Heck if I could find a full set of sheets I could get a set of PJ's out of it.

My dream would be to find a set of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) or Space Battleship Yamato(StarBlazers) linens. I'm sure if they were made they only come in twin which is fine for what I want. Of course the fabrics from that era are generally higher quality than what's produced today.

Any hints or help is appreciated. I'm not against hunting Yahoo Auctions Japan or Ebay I just haven't had much luck.

Just brought them home

I was browsing Marketplace when these two popped up. The owner is someone who enjoys restoring vintage european machines as a hobby. He also has a few Pfaff industrials.
The 30 has a replacement 1.5 amp Alphasew motor and I believe both foot pedals are replacements.
They've both been rewired and have new motor belts. The cleated belt in the 230 looks good.
I paid $115 for both and while I haven't sewn on them yet, I feel like I got a good deal. I need to sew up a gift bag for my spouses birthday present and that'll give me a chance to try them out.

Pfaff 130 or 230?

I have a Brother Pacesetter 700 that I love and bought in January. However I’m finding myself drawn to bag making and I don’t want to kill Persephone punching through material she wasn’t designed for.

Both of these machines are on Marketplace for $65. They are from the same seller and look in very good condition. I think they were being used commercially because the ads both say they come with a Teflon foot.

They also list the service and any repairs. He does say the 130 has a new 1.5 amp motor.

I’d appreciate any input.

Veg Fest is a great event!

My spouse and I went to Veg fest today. We'd last gone 3 years ago & I forgot how nice it was. It's open again tomorrow if you have the time.

It's free to get in

Tons of food

Live music

Interesting vendors.

We splurged and did the early admission and I have zero regrets. It's $30 and you get a swag bag with a 10 raffle tickets and a bunch of product samples. You also beat the crowds at the food trucks & booths.

Most important of all I was able to replace my favorite shirt from The 50/50 company "Gas can cat: friend to all"
