Rafiki’s Planet Watch?

Last year, my husband and I went to Rafiki’s and had a lot of fun with the drawing of Disney characters. (Actually got some pixie dust, I asked the worker when they’d be drawing Donald Duck as he’s my favorite character. I came back later, and he actually drew a Donald Duck portrait for me. It’s on my desk.)

Currently, it’s closed due to the Bluey thing. Does anyone know if it’ll reopen?

ETA: Conservation Station! That’s what it’s called.

People really don't get it.

Had a patient today, ANO x4. 40s. I was taking his vitals, and we were chatting. He asked me if I worked during COVID. I did not. I made a comment that "we lost a lot of nurses during COVID". I do realize I could've phrased it a little bit better, but I was referring to the fact a lot of nurses left.

He was surprised by this. He asked me, "How could you leave your livelihood? Something you went to school for? Like they just left?"

The example I gave him is typical ICU ratios are like 1-2 patients, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you were going up to 4 during COVID. (This was per my aunt who was an ICU nurse at the time. She had 4 and was charge). This blew his mind. I tend to make it a rule to not talk about politics at work, but I added in that it was even harder with a lot of the anti-science things that came out.

It really hit me that people outside of healthcare don't get it. I went on to say that if there was another pandemic, the healthcare system would probably collapse. He agreed with this sentiment after I gave him the context.

I obviously wasn't in healthcare at the time, and the pandemic was rough for me outside of that. I genuinely cannot imagine what it would've been like. So if you were working through those times especially, thank you.

ETA after all the comments: Thank you.

I didn’t sleep and I have to work.

I’ve been tossing and turning for SIX hours but I left early Sunday (had a bad anxiety attack), and called in last week. My PTO is scarce, so I’m forcing myself to work today.

I have to be at work in an hour. FUCK MY LIFE.

Do you post your kid on social media or online?

I’m an expecting parent. My husband and I have spoken at great lengths about this topic, and thankfully are on the same page.

We will not post this kid or any subsequent kid while they’re a minor on any social media or online. I also don’t believe in posting our kid and putting an emoji over their face. The most we’d probably do is post them with something physically covering their face or their back turned to the camera.

We are based in North America, and it is not illegal in all 50 states to make CSAM (child sexual abuse material) via AI of pictures of minors. Especially with the rise of AI, I don’t want anything that could be made of my child. I don’t want creeps looking at even an innocent photo of my child and deriving any twisted pleasure from it.

So thus my question. Do you post your minor child online/on social media? Why?

What I heard at the hair school one time

Not a hairstylist, but thought I’d share this story for all of you.

I go to the beauty school for a lot of my services, and I was getting a service on the hair side.

There was a student doing a girl’s hair. Girl had black hair. She asked her instructor a question that I didn’t quite catch, and the instructor shook her head:

“No, if she has black box dye on her head she’s definitely not becoming blonde today. I don’t know why you promised her that.”

ADHD reader needing recs!

As stated in the title, I have ADHD and pretty much only read when I’m manic. (Also bipolar). I want to read because I really don’t want to be attached to my phone 24/7 and I just want to get back into it!

My top 3 books are ‘Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe’, ‘The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender’, and ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow and Tomorrow’.

My favorite trope of all time is ‘right person, wrong time’. I do like romance, but am not a huge spice person. (I leave that for AO3) Also open to nonfiction. I just read ‘When Breath Becomes Air’.

I am an expecting parent as well. Sorry this is all over the place! But also no fantasy pls!

1st card show!

A little while ago, I made a post about starting in the hobby. My husband and I went to a card show and picked up these babies!

We’re using DragonShield sleeves, and picked up an UltraPro binder. I plan on getting us a big VaultX binder for bulk, and then getting a commissioned binder for our ‘real’ collection.

The vendor was so kind, and we actually sold my husband’s old Kyogre card he found from his childhood.

Feeling defeated

I’ve been working on my neuro med surg unit for nearly two years. I was thinking I’d want to stay, but then as this last semester came, I thought: absolutely not.

However, I’ve now changed my tune. I really love all my coworkers, my manager is supportive (mostly), and I’m already a nurse extern. My manager has said on multiple occasions and confirmed there’s no spots open.

I was ‘under review’ for a job on our cardiac unit for over a month, but got a rejection email Friday. Now, I’ve applied to our cardiac stepdown unit (this was my last choice because that floor always has rapids and the acuity is high). I’m now even considering applying outside my hospital system and just staying PRN at my current system. (My current job paid for nursing school and I need to stay a year past last payment to not repay).

Even more, I’ve already realized they do not care about us LOL. So I don’t want to stay at bedside long, but I’ve gotta start somewhere.

My dad always said “nurses can get jobs anytime, anywhere!”

WHERE?

AITA For telling my sister she should get an abortion?

This is a bit hard for me to post.

My sister (30F) has a very high functioning form of autism, which isn't apparent when you first meet her. She is very cheerful and overall everyone likes to be around her. She met a guy a few years ago and they ended up marrying.

I (32M) was happy for her and glad that at least she has someone who will be by her. However one night they announced to my family that she is pregnant. It seemed like no one had an issue with this, but I don't think she should take on the huge responsibilities of being a mother.

I tried to get a read on what they are planning to do with the baby. When I was alone with my sister, I told her "I don't think you should have a baby, you'd be unfit to raise it, you really need to think about abortion and talk it out with your husband"

My sister got extremely anxious and didn't say anything and ended up leaving. A day later her husband came to my home and yelled at me for telling her to get an abortion. I told him "okay and when the baby falls down the stairs and breaks its neck because his mother forgot to watch him, it will be all your fault for deciding to have it."

The husband told me not to contact them again, which is bullshit because she is my sister and I certainly will. Plus, I don't think it's fair for their child to have an autistic mother.
