What should incoming apprentices do this summer?

I start my L3 vehicle technician apprenticeship in September and apart from working in my current job (retail) and doing driving lessons I feel lost . Should I just enjoy my summer or keep myself up to speed with what I’m getting into (course / job role wise)

What offer do I pick

I got 3 , level 3 offers with the progression of a level 4-5 apprenticeship and job offer after
1- An extremely big car company level 3 motor vehicle technician
2- small medium sized company unknown but makes a good amount for assembly fixture technician
3- civil engineering for my local council and we will be making a 100 million pound + invested area with parks , flats and shops for the city centre . I live in a big city in the north.
I did mechanical engineering level 3 and got merits and I will be honest idk what I want to do in the future most likely aerospace or anything to do with engineering overall.

Any Level 3 vehicle technician apprenticeship advice ?

I got two apprenticeship offers one for the vehicle technician industry with a big car company and one with a medium sized company (unknown) for an assembly fixture technician. I have decided that I want to pick the big car company as I see myself fitting in more and it has great benefits.

How do you know if your apprenticeship is a substitute for cheap labour?

I keep seeing posts of people warning young people to be aware of some apprenticeships as people spam apply due to the course providing them a way into the job market. However, some apprenticeships are offered as it’s cheaper for the company and it’s one of the many main reasons that the drop out rate is high.
We all know that the apprenticeships posted by Nando’s, superdrug and Morrisons are usually excuses for cheap labour but no one talks about the engineering , finance , or marketing companies that do the same thing .
I start my apprenticeship in September and I have no clue if it’s worth it for the experience or if I’m being hired for cheap labour .
What are the signs that a company is hiring apprentices for cheap labour?

Do apprentices pay council tax ?

Really random but I got a letter from my local council asking for proof of my education (I’m currently in college so all was well) but I was wondering if I would have to tell them again once I start my apprenticeship in October. I personally think it’s absurd as I will only be receiving £18,000 a year and be a student in college and working at the same time .

Don’t do an apprenticeship for the wrong reasons…

I understand that the job market is really bad
. However , I have seen quite a lot of posts from school leavers on here saying that they are doing apprenticeships because of the pay , which is concerning , in my opinion. It’s common for school leavers to pick level 4-7 apprenticeships in demanding roles such engineering , finance , child care etc .
These roles take a lot of your time , effort and even money (some roles require you to relocate to new cities which cost money and energy)

The good main reasons to do the apprenticeship route is : if you already know what career paths you are interested in , for the experience, for the benefits, if you struggle to do academic based work only and excel in physical training.
If you are picking the apprenticeship route only because of the pay then you WILL either burn out, drop out or be miserable for the next 3-5 years , respectfully !
If you do the apprenticeship route know what career you see yourself going into don’t just do it because of the job market , pay and because of the “debt” free uni stuff that you hear .
Yes your university is paid for whilst working and getting a free qualification but it is demanding 😥.
Young people are very impressionable and I think it’s important that we have these conversations!
There is a reason why around 40-47% of apprentices drop out (2023/24 stats) . And the reasons that I pointed out are only the tip of the iceberg!

There has been a shift this season

No it’s not for diversity or preference reasons but this seasons is “boring” imo . Yes it’s only week 1.5 but I genuinely think that they just picked people who do not “gel” together as well. Alongside not picking people who are good for tv. I personally can see people from this season fitting into previous seasons however , it’s like they just put too many side characters into one season for me. Hopefully it will change soon 😊! They also need to spice up the villa because less than 1 million people tuning in for a nation wide reality tv show is poor😭✌️
Alongside this no one seems to be interested in getting into a relationship, yes it’s love island so people want fame but , there used to be a decent amount of people who genuinely went there for love it’s sad how the show has change since maybe 2022/23

Majority of rappers have fallen off and do not have passion for rap anymore

I love Asap rocky , j Cole and Drake but it’s CLEAR as day that a lot of these “old head rappers” do not have passion for music anymore (which is fine but then at least retire or something ) not as much as they used too in the early 10s. The albums created today do NOT compare to what we were getting in 2010-2019 maybe 2021 if we are being honest.
It’s just sad because there is an increase in mid rap albums and dare I say it but every year there is a new trending “tik tok “ rapper that falls off just as quickly after one album no one is really sticking these days.

Just accepted this offer is it okay?

Other important factors to consider I think? : I’m 19 - also it’s 37.5hr/week, the commute is nearly an hour each way ( so two hours a day 🥲) and I have to go to the college 1 day a week and go to the workshop during school holidays .

Has anyone dropped from uni to do an apprenticeship?

Sorry if this isn’t allowed on here but , I’m a college student and I don’t know if I should go to university or take on my apprenticeship offer. I don’t mind doing first year to see if I like it , if not I’ll drop out and apply for an apprenticeship.

Has anyone gone the apprenticeship route and is not going to university?

Most people on here are going to uni but, I was wondering if anyone got a degree apprenticeship lined up / an apprenticeship in general. I do engineering in college and got an apprenticeship in engineering after 4-6 months of applying .

2nd year of college or apprenticeship

Im a 19 year old college student who got a level 3 Apprentice Fixture Assembly Technician apprenticeship, alongside this I’m awaiting for an offer from Nissan (engineering service technician) and my local council (civil engineering) .
The reason why I’m unsure of taking the apprenticeship offer is due to my past.
My mother took me out of year 11 so I had to do my GCSEs whilst everyone was in year 13. I was a promising grade 5-8 student. My friends parents and members of school faculty team tried to call the police however, they couldn’t do anything. My mum took me to sixth form after begging her to allow me to go back to school . But the subjects that they allowed me to do (which she picked) were applied science and double health and social care. I knew this wasn’t the life I wanted so I went to a local college and got my maths and English GCSEs (I passed 😊!) I was 18 at this point and this upcoming school year was my last year of college so I picked engineering as I had interest in it form a young age. I have completed my first year of engineering and got a merit overall. My prediction for the two years are DDM/DMM. If I finish this year and don’t come back then I can get a certificate for an engineering diploma of just a Merit (M) .
The job offer I have received is £18,000 a year , 4 year apprenticeship, 20 days holiday , 30 min unpaid lunch - 8:30-17:00 Monday to Thursdays and 8:30-14:30 on Fridays. If anyone can help me with my choice then it would be appreciated. On one hand I want to finish college and get a levels / b tec like everyone else but on the other I want to do this and gain experience. Also if anyone is a Fixture Assembly Technician apprentice and could tell me about their role then it would be helpful!

Companies secretly discriminate against young people

I’m nearly 20 so this doesn’t affect me as much but, I got an interview for an engineering level 3 position and the guy said he is putting me forward because some of the other candidates were 15-18 which is what the company isn’t looking for (not just that reason because I have experience but, that really stuck with me) . He said mainly because of maturity and that I understand how college works and pay works etc which some younger people don’t understand.
I just wanted to put it on here because I think it’s genuinely daft and kind of rude, level 3 is the equivalent of a levels which most people taken by people of the ages of 16-18 . So obviously that demographic will be applying for such roles. Im grateful to even get through to the interview process but it really confused me when he said that.
In addition, this isn’t the first company to say this to me either!

The demographic at the DBD tour

Seeing the tik toks of the DBD tour has been interesting as hell because I thought most of Rocky’s fans are 18-30 . I personally thought that the “old heads” would be at the tour but it’s mainly under 18s / under 21s that I’m seeing which is funny to me . But obviously we have only seen the American shows so far. Maybe it will change in Europe

Why do people watch the show and end up liking characters that are evil?

A couple of days ago I made a post about how people only like certain characters because of their looks e.g Nick and Serena, if Serena was old and not a beautiful white woman then I believe that she wouldn’t be liked a lot. Yes she is disliked by a lot of people but I still see A LOT of people online justifying her character which is very annoying.
Anyways, I saw this comment and yes it only has 45 likes but it’s genuinely disturbing that people think Serena is “like able” . She is not a “complex” character she is evil , even if she has done stuff that is “redeemable” e.g >!letting Nicole / holly leave and letting June see Hannah etc!<I’m personally only on s4 ep 8 so maybe things do change but I think it’s mildly disturbing how people defend Serena.
Also massive unpopular opinion but I do think a good chunk of the fandom / viewers are illiterate but that’s a discussion for a different day.
