Have anyone here asses custom sound proofing to hatch area and doors? Recommended?

Edit:title should read “assess” not asses 😆😆

my wife’s car was a careful and hard won victory years ago - 2013 RX350, now with 220k miles. we bought it used, from a Mercedes dealer after testing 4-5 models 2012-2015. the leather would frequently be ugly on driver’s seat, and the driving actually varied quite a bit.. some much noisier than others , some had other issues. I should post a picture of the interior of hers right now. It is gorgeous. She loves it and hardly consider anything else. Perfect for grandchildren and everybody else and I actually has lots of headroom , I’m 6 foot two.

Anyway, my major objection always has been the road noise and though she hears much better than I do even she admits that it’s very difficult to talk to anybody on speaker while you’re driving. I drive a 4Runner and it’s quite a bit quieter. So the question is have you done any soundproofing inside your RX and what were the results and did you have a professional audio do it?

Noob wondering if I should even consider recent Subaru models

some of you guys are experts on the last couple of years of the Subaru ascent and the new redesigned outback models. My perspective is I really hate and wind noise. When I test drive something, it usually only takes me about 10 minutes and I write it off. My wife drives an RX 350 I drive a fourth generation forerunner and I keep driving it because the fifth generation for runners were noticeably but both generations are relatively quiet for ordinary SUVs. So tell me what I need to know, especially if you drove a forerunner before coming to your Subaru of choice. The main thing I’ve been searching for is a GX 460 with some miles on it.

Would someone knowledgeable about clean air reco a light canister vacuum cleaner?

need help. we have a shark stick vac that was a bad purchase in my opinion. It’s way heavier use than what its static weight is and I don’t care what they say about their bags. They emit a lot of ugly air right in your face while you’re trying to use it. I looked at remediation level, vacuum, cleaners, and in fact bought one of the well rated ones from Home Depot. It’s a shop vac. Basically I did not realize how unwieldy it is, and I’m not capable of handling something very heavy at this point due to health reasons. So I need something canister with very good attachments and a very well rated filtration that’s easy to drag around. somebody Please help me. we live in Texas limestone rich area with frequent drought.

what about a small Rigid shop vac with fine dust filter?

Is there a poll here re preferred versions we actually use?

title says it all. very confusing topic in terms of national polling or international polling because apparently the publishers obfuscate numbers, nobody knows what’s actually in use unless it’s the Bible app staff

I shopped new cars yesterday and the odors were really disconcerting. Found this in physics articles

I live in USA in Tx. I shouldn’t mention the automaker since many may have same issue. I have been shopping vehicles hard lately. so yesterday my wife and I visited a dealership for a couple of thorough test drives, and sat in a few other. The top concern on my mind after coming home thinking through everything was the overwhelming odors in every model. We both suffer from allergies and I haven’t identified the worst offender. Anyway it’s a serious concern. This was not “good ole fashioned new car smell“ but a strong blend of VOC’s.

I did some reading and it’s a too-real concern and perhaps the maker in question is a bit worse than what I encountered at other dealers. I know there are some very bright will educated people on this sub so I wanted to bring it up here and see if anyone can shed more light on it. There is a wiki that deals with this a little bit, but some of the information is dated. From wiki I found this article which is more recent and more than anything else. I have read and it illustrates just how is. https://phys.org/news/2023-04-new-car-exposure-host-hazardous-chemicals.html

also see the Wiki, it’s quite detailed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_car_smell

Visibility for taller drivers

just a quick question for those of you who had a fifth generation four Runner and now own the sixth. does gen 6 have better or worse front visibility? has to do with positioning of windshield & headliner. According to what I read, the official is the but the way they measure it is never quite clear to me what matter assist visibility. In my fourth generation it’s a problem for me.

For those that switched from 5th Gen 4Runner: need your input

I own 4th gen T4R for a decade. Have accumulated a bunch of physical problems in last 3 years that make driving unpleasant. I’m looking for a GX460 2014-2020 replacement. But I’ve driven both GX and 5th Gen T4R LTD and as this group knows, they are brothers. Not identical twins.

My question is simply, looking back at your former T4R, what did you gain and/or lose on the switch? Please tell me how different your GX is, what you like or dislike, and what you miss from prior ride?

much appreciated. I need to buy soon…

Driver visibility 6th vs 5th generation

i’m 6 foot two and need to sit fairly straight up. The fourth generation for headliner comes down too far for me even though I’ve been for a number of years now I’m at the point where I don’t tolerate it well anymore. The GX on the other hand has really good visibility when actually the measurements that are stated by the about the are not the same in terms of visibility so that’s my I know fifth generation looks like driven a number of them. And anything is better than the fourth generation. What did you guys find?

Private tab/window is liability. Windows 11

I switch to another browser just really frustrated with constant problems. The most annoying one and dangerous is that I use private mode for a lot of financial things and also for looking up things repetitively where storing cookies can mess up your results. The private just doesn’t work when you try to clear it. in other words, I’m on my and Windows 11 and I’ve got brave open. I’ve got a couple of windows open normal and then a private window. It looks clean when I first opened it up but after using 10 minutes or so looking things I open the settings. Tell it to delete all cookies which I should not have to do. It should delete them all when you close the window, but it does not . So I thought I could work around it by deliberately deleting the cookies while I’m in the window and then get out of it or another one. Nope. tap any part of address from a prior site and it will pop right back and all of what you were doing.

done. it just isn’t worth it

Anyone shopping for 5.7 in Tx? Found a good one. Won’t last long

I went to see a tundra limited one owner, no issues low 2017 this morning and it is super clean. White with light gray leather crew max 2wd.. Remarkably clean. one owner no-deficit Carfax goes very fast here. miles iirc are 89k

I was and still am making a which-vehicle decision. GX, RX, TUNDRA, or late model F150.

Liked the GX ride much better.

How to tell if my codes are, for certain, the charcoal canister/filter gone bad?

2007 2nd sr5 with 268000. since about 5 years ago I routinely get the 5 codes: P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402, P2419.

The only actua mechanics estimates I go were $1500-2000 from an elite Yota shop, and “ it’s not worth doing” from my regular shop. What say ye?

and is there any way to be sure? Sure that the condions are all valid, and sure that even if I do spend that much money, the outcome will be perfect so far as these codes are concerned? The vehicle runs very well and gets the best gas mileage it’s ever gotten to date. No other big issues TPM, and cosmetic have all gone the clearcoat disappeared in a six month span at one time it looks awful. And ding in the rear hatch. Drives perfectly ice cold AC

Any aftermarket new headlight assembly worth buying

a good friend bought my son’s 08 2nd sport years ago and then bought from Amazon a pair of new headlights from some third-party manufacturer. That friend has had luck with his no problems at all and they look great. I haven’t looked at them in great detail magnifying glass, but they just look like New OEM to me. When I looked them up on Amazon, the reviews or mixed I think it had like a three rating or something like that so this group knows all about the vehicle. I would like to know if you have found any that worked well for you. Yes, I have tried polishing them, and these will polish up on my old 07, but they have the look of cracked ice. There are no cracks on the but inside sort of like clear marble. So polishing will get them clean enough to sell I guess but it isn’t a good fix so I was thinking about alternactives. Thank you for your help

How to clean touchpad? For real

most of this smear you see happened this afternoon. tiny bit of olive oil residue on my fingertip. I did a quick the right thing to use to clean the touchpad as I usually use whatever I have laying around like the edge of my sleeve, according to the instructions that I got a regular should do the trick. I was skeptical of that because that’s isopropyl alcohol usually which does nothing against oil and I was right, but it smeared it as you see now and even when I let it dry out, it’s still very ugly. What should I do?

two things impressed me about the latest F1 50s from 2023 to the present and we’ve always been a Toyota family . I currently drive a fourth generation forerunner. I’ve been very impressed with the quietness of the F150 cab, super crew XLT or higher. I owned a 2014 and to the Sequoia was more noisy than the F150. But compared to our RX 350 both are pretty sedate. The other thing is the 2.7 L F150 engine. It is for real. It gets good gas mileage if you don’t have to slam from one place to another. The bad news is their transmission will fail. Not a question of if it is a question of when so in buying one of those we build in as good of a as possible. I’m in a buying dilemma. If you quiet like I do and have come a please comment. Forgive the typos, this is voice to text
