i had forgotten how exhausting the itemization is

having to juggle ~10 resistances, on top of armor, DA, OA, health, regen, damage and speed while leveling is just a miserable experience... and it also makes it so every item needs to have 10 lines of text (to fulfil all those stats) which makes it a pain to even read what they do

i'm at the point of just ignoring 90% of items and trying to stick with level 30 gear until my character hits a brick wall just so i don't have to engage with the itemization... but that kind of kills the sense of progression after core skills and devotions are unlocked

edit: i always get a chuckle from people saying "the game isn't for you" when i have 1200h played and have beaten sr80 on more characters than i cared to count :). builds in GD come pre-made with the sets, then it's just a matter of filling the holes in your stats with the other pieces, it's not difficult or interesting, just a massive chore (one that most people can't even do without external resources)

I am (still) addicted to beravor

every time my wife and i replay through the cycles, i can't stop myself from including her in every single fellowship. in the hobbit saga we usually play ori/dain/thorin + red/blue/blue, but regardless of how powerful the dwarves are, the game just feels clunky without the on-demand pot of greed... especially when the red deck doesn't draw foe-hammer or ancient mathom; i honestly avoid playing dwarf decks just because she doesn't fit with the "5 dwarves" mechanic and we don't have enough good lore cards to justify her inclusion in the 2nd deck.

i ditch bifur for her, i ditch elrond for her, i include loragorn as my 2nd lore hero to abuse the doomed cards (which beravor can help me find) and she helps haldir find his bows every time he joins the fray.

i generally prefer using pippin with treebeard, (on scenarios where i can reliably trigger him) and damrod effectively replaces her if the 2nd deck doesn't need card draw, but it's only when arwen arrives that my girl can finally take a vacation (unless hirluin is on the case; he doesn't go anywhere without her)

she comes back for the dale cycle to help her old BFF (brand) and his son, then takes another well-earned rest for the land of shadow so the new heroes can have some time to shine.

i think i'm addicted to 4-handed gameplay

i mostly played the game in 2-player mode, and recently i've decided to try a 4-handed progression series just to get a new experience (i've played 4-player games before, but always with other people)

at first it was a bit of a nightmare since i kept forgetting and losing track of so many things, but now that i finished the hobbit saga, i find myself being bored when i play with a measly two hands...

PS: i did give up on "into ithilien" because those treacheries are too ridiculous in 4-player mode unless you have 12 copies of "a test of will"

Tactics Brand did not get the respect he deserved

my wife and i have been playing the game since 2012 and we used brand very often in the early days; 3 atk + ranged was pretty great in multiplayer, and his synergy with pre-errata beravor pushed him into overpowered territory (she didn't have the once per round limit, so brand's ability was basically "draw 2 every time you kill something")

he was our go-to tactics hero over legolas since drawing 2 is far more powerful than getting 2 progress. i'm not sure whether people didn't realize how good he was or simply forgot it due to his grandpa(?) overshadowing him (along with the errata nerfing his best usage), but i still have a soft spot for him.

could be that the derpy face made people not want to play him... we proxied a different art for him (and boromir) back in the day :)

Choosing a team is too difficult...

in most fighting games i struggle to find more than 1 or 2 characters that i enjoy playing, but i'm having the opposite problem in this one. so far i narrowed it down to 9ish characters that i really like and the list keeps getting bigger the more characters i try

if anyone can help me pick 3 of the following, that'd be great:

gokus (ssj, blue, black) vegetas (all 3), trunks, vegito, gogetas (both)

other characters that i enjoyed but haven't played much to be sure: cell, lab coat, 18, 17, GT and broly (S)

haven't tried frieza and baby because i tend to avoid zoners, but i might give them a shot in the future as well

any places where i can check up-to-date combos?

i saw some combos on youtube videos that seem way better than what's on dustloop, but many of those videos don't have notations so using them for practice is a pain in the ass. are there any websites or discords where i can check them out?

does anyone know how populated the ladder is in south america?

i'm from brazil and i loved GGST but the ladder is pretty much empty (at least at low ranks) most of the times i want to play; i'm aware that SF6 is a much more popular game but that doesn't mean it's going to be significantly larger everywhere, which is why i'd like some confirmation before spending money on the game (sadly can't play online with the demo to see what it's like)

asking this here since i couldn't find a brazillian subreddit for the game

is lockpicking worth the party slot?

i'm doing a nightmare playthrough and the party i want to use are 3 mages + alistar, but i wonder if it's worth replacing one of them with a rogue to have lockpicking in the party

my last playthrough was so long ago that i barely remember it, and lockpicking is super valuable in the larian games

the MMO genre isn't less popular than it used to be

once in a while, i see some online discussions about how the MMO genre has fallen because kids these days don't wanna play them, or social media stole all the players, but MMOs were never that big of a genre to begin with.

the best i could find for peak subscriber numbers in everquest or ultima online were around 500k, which is a far cry from the 7M sales that crash bandicoot games managed to reach back then

a lot of people remember the massive success and cultural reach of WoW and extrapolate that to the MMO genre as a whole, but the fact that WoW blew up didn't make the other MMOs any bigger (if anything, it made most of them smaller). And yeah, WoW is less popular now than it used to be in its prime, but isn't that to be expected for a 20-year-old game?

so it turns out i was playing on hard mode

the first thing i did when i started the game (snes version) was setting battle speed to 1, because i found battles in chrono trigger and ff4 way more fun at higher speeds

so imagine my surprise when i heard people saying the ghost train, which took all of my potions to barely make it through, was supposed to be one of the easiest parts of the game

it turns out that enemies aren't supposed to attack 5 times before your first move... would have been nice to know

playing 2033 for the first time, not sure if i'm missing something...

i'm around 3h into the game (stopped at the point when i got captured by nazis) and the game seems very mixed in its identity

most of it feels like a cover shooter with long walking simulator sections in-between, and the overworld section didn't have much to explore outside of the main path, which is the opposite of the survival games i've played in the past (which were open-worldish with very few cutscenes)

i'm also not a fan of the story sections; most of the game so far was me walking along with an NPC with vague dialog and i couldn't care less about any of the characters i've met so far (i'm a big fan of story-based games, but this one just doesn't appeal to me)

not sure if i should just skip this one, or if it's one of those cases where the game "opens up" later, but judging by the length of some playthrough videos on youtube i'm almost halfway through, so there's little chance of changing my mind about it

PS: i don't dislike the game, but there are a lot of other games i want to play; i might come back to it in the future (with different expectations) and maybe try out the other difficulty modes (currently on normal)
