Soups for 12m old

Hello, my son hates water. He's coming off formula now and I'm worried about his water intake. He has maybe 10 sips a day, and we've tried everything to increase it. The doctor suggested soups, has anyone given their toddler soup? Any suggestions on the type? Anyone in the same boat?

Family tries to help but not helpful

I realise how lucky I am to have family who offer to help. And this is not an entirely serious post, moreso light-hearted wtf-ness.

My mum is amazing and I love her but my god it's like all of her critical thinking skills have disappeared. She comes round maybe once every week or so, and offers to help but she asks a million questions about how to do the task. How do I lift a 12m old out of a high chair? How do I do the pram buckle up even though I've been told a million times? How do I use a toaster?...I end up having to show her and do it anyway. Today she offered to feed my cat, wonderful thank you...she puts the cat food in the water bowl. It's full of water. She says that cat food is very wet. No mother the bowl is. I don't understand!

She then nags me about everything and I always snap. She tells me I'm ungrateful. Maybe I am.

I do love my mother, she is a mad person but very lovely. Just lacking brain function apparently

Anyway vent over.

What kind of meals are you eating?

Just started on the pill and can definitely feel the effects already! I don't have the same cravings but my appetite is pretty much gone. I know it's important to eat something but I am a bit lost on what I should be eating. I've come from previously dieting with specific macros, calorie goals etc. that didn't work lol, but I'm just wondering how everyone else figures this out? Or is it intuitive eating? What kind of meals are you making? Any recommendations on meal plans or recipes?

Thanks!

Success stories please!

Hello, starting the pills this week. I gave birth a year ago and haven't managed to shift any weight. I am excited but for some reason really really nervous?

Can peeps share success stories? How long did it take to lose weight? Any advice on how to make the most of the pills?

Thanks in advance!

Feeling about overwhelmed about transitioning off formula and bottles

My baby is 1 year, 11m corrected. When he is 1 year corrected I need to transition him off formula per NHS guidelines. Apparently I also need to stop bottles and give him an open cup/sippy cup.

I've been gradually stopping breastfeeding and now I do bf overnight. For naps and sleep he is fed to sleep on the bottles most of the time, he can sometimes be settled by cuddling.

I guess I'm worried about moving off formula because my baby just doesn't like water. I've tried every type of bottle and cup, it's a work in progress. I might swap to cows milk but not sure how. I don't want him to get dehydrated. I'm also really scared about coming off the bottle because it's such a good tool for sleep. He really doesn't like many cups so unsure what to do. Feels like slot of change at once.

Does anyone have any experience here? Any insight is welcome x

When did your relationship w/partner recover

Me again. For those who recognise my username, I have posted many many times about my baby who was not easy, not chill. I’m talking hourly wakes, contact naps, me being the only one who can settle him, going to bed with baby at 7pm and not really having a life. It got better at 9m but baby has periods of poor sleep due to teething and illness. We cosleep and I deal with all the nightly wakes.

My husband does so much, he takes baby when he wakes at 5-6 and then takes him again when he finishes work. He feeds him, bathes him, everything. I’ve had ppd and harboured a lot of resentment that I took out on my husband. I was a shell of myself for the longest time, I had a really difficult pregnancy with HG, gained 50 pounds and have not lost a pound. That combined with a difficult baby just made me angry a lot. We are slightly better but I find myself snapping at him a lot and apologising constantly. I think he’s fed up and often it seems like he doesn’t actually like me. He’s told me often that he doesn’t have a lot of patience left.

We haven’t had sex in a really long time. Mostly because of the severe sleep deprivation. I’m ready now to have sex and I’ve told hubby that but he doesn’t seem interested. It won’t initiate it and I don’t want to because I’m kinda touched out.

We bicker a lot. It’s my son’s first birthday party today. I was up all last night setting up his gifts and balloons, then had to wake up a lot with him because he’s teething. So I was exhausted at 6 when he woke up for the day. My husband went out last night and came back and ate a little bit of the food I prepped. I panicked because I was worried he’d eaten a lot and shouted at him (over reaction). He said I was being ridiculous and doesn’t want to talk to me today because we might fight and ruin the day.

I really thought things would be better now. It honestly seems like he doesn’t like me anymore. I don’t really feel like I know him. I’m waiting for things to get easier, for us to actually like each other. I know it takes effort but I don’t know what else to do. When did it get better for you?

When do nursery drop offs get easier?

My baby is almost a year old, ahh! I’ve been putting him in nursery two days a week for about 3 weeks now and he still cries so much at drop off. During the day he apparently cries on and off but he is generally ok according to the staff.

He is very very attached, he hates being held by anyone else except me and dad. We cosleep, I breastfeed so it’s probably a shock to him but I don’t have a choice.

When does it get easier? When did your babies stop crying at drop off?

How to get 11m old to drink water

Me again….need tips to get baby to drink water. He just isn’t fussed. I’ve tried different cups, modelling, I keep offering him water and he isn’t interested. If it’s an open cup he likes to splash his hand in it lol. Any tips?

Made redundant, issues finding new job

I was made redundant at the end of my leave alongside my entire team. I don’t have much legal leg to stand on because it’s the whole team being made redundant and there are no alternative roles.

I was approved flex working and was going to work 4 days. I was so happy to have an extra day with baby. Now I’ve started looking for part time roles in my industry (tech) and I’m struggling to find anything…

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Can I apply to full time roles and negotiate it to be flexible in the interview?

I might have to work full time if I can’t find anything and I’m so sad. For those who do work full time, how do you find it? How do you manage pick ups?

Thanks!

5am wake ups

Baby wakes up at 5am regardless of what time we put him to bed. Could be 8pm, could be 6pm, he always wakes at 5. Any tips of how to shift this later even just to 6am? Room is dark, white noise being used etc. I try to put him back to sleep but no luck. He gets around 1.5-2.5 hrs of naps a day.

Weaning at 12m tips

Baby is 11m. And I want to wean by 13m. He is boob mad and has been combi fed but mostly BF. I’ve started to replace BF with formula as of a month or so ago. So now he has 3-4 bottles and 2 daytime feeds, and around 2 night feeds.

He doesn’t drink a lot of water yet, we haven’t tried cows milk just yet, and he doesn’t drink ok either solids. I’m a bit worried about removing BF and him getting dehydrated or thirsty?

Can anyone offer tips or reassurance? He has always comfort fed and he’s starting nursery soon, so I know it’ll be a rough time, but I need to wean for medical reasons in a couple of months time and not sure how to go about it. Any success stories would also be great!

Tips for throwing food/spoon

Baby is 10m old, and we were a bit late to the baby led game, I did traditional weaning but started to introduce more finger foods etc about 2m ago as I gained confidence. He has no teeth so that kinda scared me.

He was doing really well but he is in his throwing phase. So much food ends up in the floor. I do still give him some mashed up foods or a homemade smoothie with yogurt to supplement, which he loves but the finger foods go everywhere. He eats about a third of what we give him. He also used to be really good at self feeding with a spoon (id have to load it up), now he just lobs it lol. So I am feeding him often (I do offer the spoon in-between), and it feels like we have gone backwards.

Any tips for this very normal but irritating phase?

Inspo needed

I’m starting to wean my boob mad 10m old with the goal of stopping by 12m. I need to stop for medical reasons. He breastfeeds for comfort but I’m very lucky he does take a bottle so I have been replacing feeds with a bottle. So far, I’ve replaced the morning, midday and dinner feed and I do 2-3 breastfeeds between them and I also breastfeed 1-2 times at night. I started this process almost a month ago and I’m going to ramp up once I am back next week.

He is teething and starting nursery soon so I know he will need extra comfort. I am hoping to do it gradually and will extend a little bit if needed.

I have a rough plan, replace feeds one by one, get dad to help overnight once we are ready…but my baby is so booby mad I’m just a bit scared, I think it will be really hard.

Does anyone who has been through something similar have any success stories they can share? Just looking for some reassurance!

Baby wakes at 4am

LO is 10m old. He’s always woken up between 5-6 no matter when we put him to bed. We are on holiday at the moment (no time difference) and he is waking up at 4am..he’s obviously tired when he wakes up, I try to feed him back to sleep, rock and bounce and he might start to drift off then he realises and wakes himself up. His naps are a bit all over the place as we are on holiday. At home he does 2 naps, usually 2-2.5 hours of daytime sleep total. Here it’s more like 3 naps and he’s getting 1.5-2.5 hours of naps. They vary in length but we are usually getting one big one in the morning and the other 2 are shorter.

Is there anything we can do? It might settle when we go home but curious about what I am doing wrong. I’m sure the crazy naps aren’t helping. Is this a phase that others have experienced?

Why am I so angry?

My baby is 10m and is amazing. Sleep has improved and I am much better rested compared to when he woke every hour between 4-9m. He naps in the cot, I can have a break, I can do stuff in the evening. Things are better and I am enjoying it. My husband and I take it in turns to have one night off a week, he might go for drinks at work and I might go swimming or take myself to the pub for a drink.

My husband works a demanding job. He usually takes baby between 5-6am depending on when he wakes up. And then I get him back at 7.30 after I have got some extra sleep. He usually doesn’t get back until about 7, by that time I’ve done bath, dinner, the entire bedtime routine, so baby is usually in bed or about to go to bed. I’m getting a bit burnt out from doing 12 hour shifts but not too bad.

But for some reason I just feel angry at my husband all the time. I’m like looking for a reason to be mad at him. Tonight
He had the night off and played tennis. He got back at 8pm. I was mad. Maybe I wanted him to know how hard I worked and how hard it is to work for 12 hours and then do a night shift. I dunno, it’s actually hard to pinpoint the reason sometimes. I just feel resentful to him. I’m finding myself apologising to him constantly.

I know post partum rage is a thing, but things are ok. I have had ppd and ppa, maybe it’s lingering I dunno. Has anyone else felt like this? Maybe I’m just resentful that I had to deal with some an enormous physical and emotional change and he didn’t? Maybe it’s because he doesn’t always acknowledge how hard I am working? I don’t know but I’m sick of being mad when I shouldn’t be.

Feeling sad about pregnancy and post partum weight gain

I had a very hard pregnancy, I had severe sickness and vomiting (5 times a day), could only eat bread and ice cream and wasn’t able to move at all, effectively bed ridden for 9m. I gained 50 pounds. I was depressed throughout. I had a severe aversion to vegetables and fruit which is ridiculous. I used to eat very healthy but I just couldn’t when I was pregnant. I vomited at the thought of salad.

Now I am 10m post partum. I haven’t lost a single pound. Not one. My pregnancy belly has become all fat. I am now obese.

I am breastfeeding. I did eat a lot during the newborn phase, but I don’t think I ate enough to warrant not losing by any weight…I tried to eat healthy but I would often go for unhealthy options due to tiredness and depression.

I walk 10k steps a day, I am swimming. I am trying to eat healthy. I was waking up hourly for 6m which probably impacted things but sleep is a bit better. Still nothing. I have had my thyroid checked.

I just can’t understand how it’s possible to not lose any weight at all? I’m huge, I feel slow. I hate my body so much. I will probably end up trying weight loss jabs when I stop breastfeeding, not sure when that will be.

Had this happened to anyone else? I know of nobody who has experienced this at all.

How the heck do you stop breastfeeding (guilty)

I want to stop breastfeeding by July, that will have been 12m since I started. I gained 50 pounds during pregnancy and I haven’t lost a single pound. Apparently I am one of those unlucky women that holds onto weight when they breastfeed, according to my dr. I am obese and I am worried for my health and worried I won’t be able to keep up when my baby is walking.

I have started to replace some feeds with bottles of formula, but LO loves to comfort feed so we sometimes feed to sleep, especially at night. Or if he is very distressed he will seek out the boob. These are normal baby things I know and I love that I can give him that comfort feeling. I’ve started stopping feeding to sleep for some naps and night sleep but he sometimes gets really upset, he does fall asleep very quickly though so it has helped him figure out he doesn’t always need boob.

I guess I’m feeling guilty. I just want to have my body back but I hate denying him this comfort. I don’t even know where to start with reducing the feeds that provide comfort. Like what do you do?? Probably a simple solution and perhaps I am overthinking but today before his nap he was thrashing around so upset desperately trying to get to my boob. I feel so bad.

Any advice welcome!

Baby soft plays (not crazy lol) in London

Hi, LO is 9m. And we recently went to the soft play/play centre at the postal museum in Farringdon. It was amazing, not too chaotic, not overbooked and lots of staff there who engaged with the babies and helped us find toys to play with. I’ve been to other soft plays and it is carnage. Does anyone know of any other similar soft play play centre type things that are a bit calmer to suit babies in London?

My son is 9m old and has woke up hourly almost his whole life. He won’t let anyone else settle him. I coslept and woke up hourly every single night, I went to bed with him because he panicked if I wasn’t there. He would only contact nap so we did that too which I didn’t mind massively.

My mental health deteriorated and my body started to crumble. Due to lack of sleep, I did not lose a single pound of pregnancy weight, I ached all the time, and I was getting sick a lot, which I would pass onto my baby. I wasn’t really looking after myself because I was pouring everything into my child.

I gave gentle sleep training a very good go. Twice. And then I went away for a night and we agreed my husband to try to do something. He never let our baby cry for more than 60s exactly, that was my limit. And he took to it very well and would fall asleep within 5 mins. When I witnessed it, I cried so so much even tho we were not letting him cry really, the method was responsive. He started to give us longer stretches and only woke up 3 times vs 12. I would nurse to sleep when he woke and transfer and would cosleep with him In the early hours.

It’s worked well, but baby has been a bit unsettled. I don’t know if I’m projecting my own anxiety onto him. Sleep training really goes against every I believe in and against my idea of what my parenting should be. No judgement to those who do it. But now I am so so worried I’ve affected my child negatively. I really hate the idea of him waking up and not calling for me if he needs me. But I cannot wake up hourly anymore.

Just looking for some reassurance. No judgement please, I’m already judging myself a lot x

Update: thank you all so so much. I truly love the Reddit community. Having started to sleep more, my mind is much clearer. I honestly think I was overthinking and almost making myself a weird martyr for the sake of my
Child but at the detriment of me. I really appreciate everyone’s kind words x

LO has been a bad sleeper since birth. He is 9m, 8 corrected, and has been waking hourly for the best part of the last 5 months. This includes with cosleeping. He’s always been a bit of a fomo baby, very alert and intense, people have suggested he might be low sleep needs and he is napping too much…how do I know?

He usually wakes at 6am, his ww are usually 2-2.5/3/3.5-4. He has 2-3 naps a day. I know it should be 2 but sometimes his naps are only 30m. We are currently averaging 10hrs of night sleep and about 2-3hrs of day sleep.

Is there anything in his schedule that stands out to you that could be tweaked?

Thanks!
