Let me see your repurposed bookcase enclosures!

I am so excited to be getting a new-to-me pal (Russian tortoise) next month! I’m constantly reading up on tortoise care and needs to give him the best life. I also have a very close friend who is a tortoise dad, so he’s been an immense help too. As part of that, I nabbed a solid and sturdy 4ftx4ft book case that I’m going to repurpose into his/her next enclosure. I know that alone isn’t big enough, so I plan on getting another smaller bookcase to make a “second story” for him/her to climb up a ramp to get to. All this to say, please comment with pictures of your repurposed enclosures using bookcases, and even better, any of your enclosures with a “second story!” I need some inspo. Thanks all!

Tortoise Enclosure

Hello, Indy! I'm about to be a reptile dad, and I'm looking for a solid enclosure for my new-to-me Russian Tortoise. I'm looking for a solid enclosure for him/her, but the ones online (like Amazon and Chewy) do not look to be very reliable or sturdy. Does anyone here know someone who builds or sells an enclosure for tortoises? I would wait to buy one at the Reptile Expo, but it doesn't come to town until late September... Thanks!

IMPD License Plate Obstruction

Someone posted on here not too long ago a similar thing they saw on another IMPD car. Granted, it was a little dewy this morning, but the thing is still incredibly obstructive regardless… Lack of double standard is scary and infuriating.

Verizon Home Internet

I've searched the sub, and I see lots of people from 4 months ago stating to stick with ATT fiber. Well, my wife and I ditched it, switched our cell service to Verizon, and bundled it with home internet. We also get an additional discount from Verizon for our line of work. We've been testing the home internet for the past week and have had zero issues. We don't do anything more than stream shows and movies, so we don't need something crazy for things like gaming or working from home. Just curious to hear if anyone has anything good to say about it before I officially cancel ATT service...mainly because the other subs highly recommend sticking with fiber... Thanks!

Taxpayer Funds Used for Indiana Republican Delegation for Suite at IndyCar’s Washington DC Race

I’m sickened by this whole disaster. Indycar is better than this. Indiana should be better than this.

ISO Shop for Men & Women Suits

I'm getting married in November, and I (the groom) have two ladies standing with me in addition to my 3 other groomsmen. I'm struggling to find a shop through online searches that will do tailored suits for both men and women. If anyone is familiar with a shop that can do this, I'd greatly appreciate the recommendation! Thanks!

TK: "To build a team around Pato, he needs teammates that will actually show Pato a little bit of a championship mentality"

That's a direct quote from TK in his interview with Bob Pockrass. To build an entire team around one driver and hire other drivers as "supporting actors" seems to be a VERY odd model for a team in motorsports. Sure, Palou is the "leader" of the CGR, Newgarden is the "leader" of Penske, etc. But that doesn't mean Dixon can't develop his own strategies and car setups, McLaughlin or Malukas can't develop their own strategies and car set ups, etc. What's more is in the interview with Pockrass, TK says Pato needs teammates that aren't selfish. Uh, is this model not the precise definition of selfishness—building an entire team around one singular driver? Marshall Pruett even said in one of his podcasts last week that (I'm paraphrasing) Pato gets upset when his teammates don't like driving the same car setup as him, and Pato struggles with solid technical feedback. Curious to see others' perspectives, but for me, I have a lot less respect for TK and Pato after this entire debacle.

IndyCar needs to do what it takes to get back to Chicagoland

Watching the stock car race tonight brings me back to those night IndyCar races that were absolute cinema. Yes, NASCAR owns the track. Yes, it’s not on Fox. But I’m going to guess a good chunk of Indianapolis based folks, like myself, would drive up there for a Saturday night race (I 100% would do it), and if there’s a concerted and calculated effort to make a good marketing effort in one of the largest markets in the country, I’m sure they could sell more than enough tickets. How many fellow redditors would make the trek to Chicagoland?

Lifestyle Mount Weight

I have the lifestyle mount on my car. I read the recommended weight maximum on it is 200 pounds. I’d like to use the mount for a cargo-like basket and use it to pick up firewood, mulch, rock, etc. Anyone tried hauling things of that nature with any issues? I’m suspecting much of the things I’d haul every now and then would be more than 200lbs…

Declining a “Coaching Cycle” with my Instructional “Coach”

It is the second week of summer break in my school district. I will get on my email once every couple of weeks just to delete the junk emails. I’m adamant about not working over the summers, so if I see an email from my principal or any other emails that may be important, I’ll wait to read them until we are back in school. However, there was one that caught my eye today—my instructional coach reaching out to me and three of my colleagues telling us we will be doing an 8 week coaching cycle a couple weeks after school starts back up. I have some major issues with this:

  1. She sent this to me, a 10 year veteran, two other teachers who are 20+ year veterans, and a teacher who just finished their first year of teaching. Why only us four? I was rated high effective at the end of the year, so I’m not sure why me. I can’t imagine the veteran teachers were below highly effective as well…

  2. She did not BCC us on this email. We could see the recipients. I’d be bothered by the email regardless, but my name being associated with this email for the other people to see is not comforting. Maybe I shouldn’t be bothered by this, but I don’t know what the other three people have going on in their professional life. I’m very, very private at work, so I don’t feel comfortable with this at all.

  3. This instructional coach is—let’s just say—not my best friend. We have two very different work ethics. She is incredibly disorganized, doesn’t respond to emails, she has confronted me several times (twice in the middle of my lessons…), and I never seek help from her when I need it. I’m cordial with everyone at work, including her, but the absolute last thing I want to do is a “coaching cycle” with her.

So, when I’m back to work in a handful of weeks, how do I approach this situation? Do I email back and decline? Do I let the passing of time let it go by and hope she forgets she ever sent the email? Do I ask my principal about it? I’ve never been in this situation, and because I do keep a very low profile at work, I don’t know how to approach it. Comments and advice appreciated!

“Distance to Full”

I feel goofy for asking this, but can someone explain to me exactly what this gauge means? The manual says “distance to full,” but I’m not sure what that really even means. Explain it to me like I’m 5 🙃
