I actually love this house, toured it in person, and considered putting in an offer. It's pretty fabulous but it needs a good amount of work. Hoping the buyer does a nice job restoring it to glory! It also has an amazing unfinished attic!

Okay but hear me out. This is stupid.

$67 for 9 teeny little balls of random yarn with which you can make exactly nothing.

Recurring clogs and mastitis - help!

I'm nursing my second baby, and it's been such a challenge! My first was a breeze (relatively speaking), but I seem to be prone to clogged ducts with this baby. I've had 2 clogs that I was able to resolve with home care, but this most recent turned into mastitis and it's been miserable. I nursed my first baby for a little over a year, and that's what I'd like to do with this baby, so I really want to stay on top of this duct issue. Does anyone have suggestions for preventing clogged ducts, or treating them quickly? I found that sunflower lecithin seems to help - maybe I should start taking that as a daily supplement instead of just when I notice a clog?

Scrampy is back!

Thank you all for keeping an eye out for her these past few weeks. Ned found her trying to get into his veggie garden last night. She does love a good salad haha! I've been so worried about her. Not sure what she got up to these past few weeks. Seems she just needed a vacation from the day to day. Don't we all? haha! I might need some help taking down the "Lost Tortoise" flyers posted about town now.

Late onset toddler jealousy?

Our toddler did so well for the first few months after we brought home our baby. There were some rough days, but she seemed to adjust after a few weeks, and I thought we were out of the woods.

It‘s been 4 months, and she’s recently started to get jealous of the baby. Shes having tantrums and meltdowns multiple times a day, and expresses that she doesn’t want me or the baby - just daddy. She gets especially upset if the baby is with daddy, because that’s “her” parent.

I love both my babies with all my heart, and it makes me so sad to think I’ve done something to upset her so much. She and I used to be thick as thieves, and I feel like she’s just pulled away so hard from me. I show her as much affection as she’ll allow, I put her needs before the babies often… all the things they tell you to do. But she’s just so angry for a little person who deserves nothing but to be happy and carefree.

Does this get better? Is this just having a 2 year old? I know it’s not about me, but I feel like an incompetent mom and I just really miss my sweet toddler.

How do you cope with health anxiety?

I was never sick prior to having kids. Maybe a cold once a year if anything. Our first year of daycare was absolutely brutal, though, and I definitely developed anxiety around anyone in our family getting sick. Now I have a 2 year old and a young infant, and even though I should be an old pro, I can feel my heart rate increase and my body get warm anytime I get an alert about an illness going around. "What if we get sick" is always in the back of my mind whenever we get together with other kids. And anytime my kids do get sick, I have such a hard time focusing at work because my brain is busy spiraling.

I know that therapy would be a good idea, and if I ever have the time, I will try it. But I guess I'm here more for solidarity and to see how anyone else deals with this. How do you work through the anxiety and just accept that little kids get sick and live your life?

I found my favorite Paul Frank t-shirt from middle school for sale…

…for $300?!

I had a sudden memory of this t-shirt and was curious to see if it existed how I remembered it. It was my favorite thing to wear in middle school. I was obsessed with Paul Frank and I thought this particular shirt was so clever haha. I‘m pretty sure I bought it at Journeys for $20 back in the day!

Lessons from my first sock

I‘m a relatively new knitter and this is my second attempt at the Tin Can Knits Rye Sock. I’m having so much fun learning that I really don’t mind ripping out my work and starting anew. I suspect this won’t be the final attempt, as I can already spot some mistakes, but I want to practice the heel again before ripping.

Thus far, I’ve learned a good bit about stitch anatomy and how to identify a twisted stitch. That I can control for my imperfect tension by rotating the stitches around the needles as I work (it‘s super obvious where I wasn’t doing this early on, especially on the purled stitches). That working with DPNs is not bad at all after the first few rounds get worked up. And that there is a meaningful difference in stretchiness between 1x1 and 2x2 ribbing (oops, the 2x2 cuff barely stretches over my ankle… should have sucked it up and done the 1x1).

All said, I’m quite happy with these in spite of imperfections. Any other sock lessons I should know about? Or even feedback on what I’ve done so far?

(Yarn is from Mothy and the Squid - I don’t believe it’s in stock anymore, but it’s inspired by sunflowers.)

TIFU by eating chocolate covered pretzels

I am on maternity leave and spend a lot of my time these days sitting on the couch with my baby. I also have a cat. Earlier today, I was eating chocolate covered pretzels on the couch. A few hours later I noticed a little piece of chocolate on the couch cushion that must have flaked off one of the pretzels. I didn’t want it to melt into the couch, but I was holding a napping baby, so getting up to throw it away wasn’t an option. I could have let it sit there until the nap was over, but for some reason I thought… I’ll just put it in my mouth. As soon as I bit down it was immediately apparent that I was not, in fact, chewing on a small piece of chocolate. Can you tell where this is going?

Yeah, it was cat poop. I put a piece of cat poop in my mouth.

TL;DR Ate a small piece of chocolate off the couch but it was actually cat poop.
