Fall; or, Dodge ... The Bible?

About 2/3rd the way through.

So I had a thought. The way this is written and told, it could have been a Bible story (any other religious text for that matter). The parallels are enthralling. Let's say 10,000 years from now when the contents of this story become a reality - it will be THE Bible story right?

It has me thinking: for people who believe religious texts and stories as the literal word of God - the way I feel bringing this story to life must be how they feel about their actual reality right?

If someone took the King James and wrote it like NS holy hell churches would fill pews.

Daycab Drivers: Do you have any unique gizmos or gadgets that you use daily?

I don't mean the regular stuff, but maybe some unique tool or quality of life item that the rest of us would have never thought we would need but would be life changing if only we knew.

Getting Fresh Air IN?

I have a dual hose portable a/c unit that does what it's suppose to do. If I understand correctly, the "fan only" option only circulates the indoor air, instead of pulling from outside.

I have a second window in the living room and it would be nice to push some outdoor air inside as well, especially at night when it's cool.

Is there anything that does this other than those cheap window fans or is that the peak of what we have?

Pete 579 Front Turn Signal Down

Another dumb problem with this truck.

2026 Daycab. Front left turn signal is out. Went from failing sometimes to failing all of the time.

Of course these don't have discreet wiring, or even fuses for the front housings anymore. Maybe I'm wrong. Anybody else deal with this? I'm guessing this is some giant electrical problem and the signal is just a small symptom.

Whatever happened to the ShipEx guy?

I thought about him the other day. What became of this dude? Did he enjoy his brief moment of fame? Did he get fired?

Looking for the perfect RIGHT ANGLE adapter OR cable.

This is my "Stolen Shot" rig that I smuggle and bring with me to work.

I have a small Cable Matters 90 degree USB C adapter which works for what I need, but you can see the problem in pictures 3 and 4. If the actualy type C connector was a bit longer this would not be an issue.

Wondering if anyone has found the perfect adapter for this problem without adding some sort of cage. It would be cool if this could be done with just a small C to C cable and no adapter but finding one small, flexible, and of the proper speed is also tricky.

Feasibility of SETTING UP & REMOVING a portable a/c?

Does anybody setup their portable unit during the day, only to take it down that same night?

I don't think I've seen a review that discusses a portable being used this way. Are these type of a/c units generally fussy to setup and take down?

This is not ideal but this would solve my security issue being on the first floor. I don't need a/c at night or when I'm not home.

Am I using the wrong lens?

I got my FP to also be portable, and usually keep the standard 40mm attached because it keeps everything small.

What I have found is that I'm usually trying to shoot large things at a great distance. Buildings, mountains, refineries, things like that.

Am I supposed to be using a long lens for this? I'm new to shooting stuff that isn't in a studio. I guess the 40mm is sort of uninspiring for this kind of shot? It's great for shooting in a room though.

I find myself using crop mode most of the time and wonder if I had a long lens I would have a better shot.

Am I doing this wrong? I was hoping to avoid carrying a long lens.

Portable Unit for First Floor?

I've been down the rabbit hole for about a week.

I have a combination of the worst limitations: first floor access and horizontal windows.

I really liked the u-shaped units that hang down, but there is the issue of security and having to board up the rest of the window (which may end up happening).

Has anyone else had the same situation? What did you end up doing?

Located around Los Angeles.

2 LG Oleds on RTX 3080?

LG C2 42" is my current main monitor running off of the single HDMI port on my GPU.

I have an older 55" LG C9, I was thinking of using it as a second monitor with some sort of DP to HDMI conversion.

I'm okay with losing frame rate but not color quality.

Has any progress been made on this front or is it still a janky bandaid to get it to work?

The easier your plan looks, the higher your odds that shit will go wrong.

Replacing RCAs

Moving to a new apartment and recently wiped the dust off my 1200's (literally).

I haven't touched them in a while, and remember the last time I was cutting I had some RCA noise (jiggling the cables to find the right spot). Pissed me off as I had replaced these a decade ago + ground mod.

Been out of the loop on this and don't remember if I used special cables or just stripped/soldered a pair of RCAs.

What's your recommendation these days? I looked at some of the repair kits and of course they're stupidly priced.

Salesman posing as installer?

Got fiber installed last week, the actual tech was professional.

In comes a second guy who says he's the "indoor installer", which is his weak ass sales pitch. I stupidly let him in my apartment.

Right away it becomes evident that this guy doesn't know his stuff and thinks I'm just as dumb as him. He points to my Asus Router and asks, "What's that?" I look at him with amazement. "Are you serious?"

I'm not upset about the sales pitch, I'm upset that they sent him posing as an installer who doesn't even know his stuff. He tries to make an argument that ATT fiber has something to do with my mobile service. Ok buddy.

I tell him I drive a truck for a living, and have literally used ATT, T-Mobile, and Verizon in unison in 11 different states, and that ATT is not it.

This happen to you guys?

Small Rant

So for Father's Day tomorrow my brother (their bio child) planned a dinner out. It's my Dad, my brother's family and me. Basically a table full of white people who look like each other and then some Asian guy (me).

I'm going to be 40 this year. 40. I was adopted when I was 2 and I remember how much I hated being stared at as a kid like some kind of circus act. I had to pretend to ignore this when I was a kid.

How stupid is it that I can manage my way through any sort of major adult crisis no problem, but something as insignificant as having to be the "Asian guy" at the table still bothers me.

We never really escape our childhood do we?

[Tenant US-CA] ADU Landlord has not been reporting rental income?

LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA (91335)

I've been living here about 7 years and have a good relationship with the landlord. I pay rent cash and he writes me a receipt.

A few weeks ago he tells me that the city wants to come in and inspect the place (after all these years). I'm annoyed at this bc I get the impression that he needs me to play ball and not be here b/c he's not reporting income.

Of course my natural insinct is - who builds an ADU only to NOT rent it out for profit? Is the city really that dumb?

I take that as my cue to start looking for places, and I have secured new housing at the beginning of next month (before the inspection).

My question: What do you think will be the outcome here for my landlord? He had the ADU built legitimately, going through the standard permitting process, but I guess he's just looking to save where he can? In any case, if his bill goes up it will be passed onto the renter - which is what I'm assuming will happen.

Down the Bmpcc OG rabbit hole again...

First off, I DO need (want) a second camera for the simple reason that my main bmpcc4k is setup/rigged for studio use and I hate the idea of breaking it down. It takes me forever to set up and get things just right.

What I am realizing is that what I need (want) most out of a second cam is: small and portable.

I'm talking about something I can sit in the corner of a kitchen counter cheap $20 tripod for a quick shot if I wanted to.

I've already been down the rabbit hole, even looking at the og micro cinema cam and the G2. Then there is the Sigma FP which, used, is maybe twice the price of the OG bmpcc used.

Then there's the cameras I know nothing about, but practically fulfill my main requirement: Sony ZV etc. I do want the ability to shoot RAW and at least grade it so it exists in the same universe as my other BRAW.

The budget is around $1k more or less, and while I'm dumb - I'm not stupid enough to think I won't be spending more once I get it.

There are 1000 reasons not to buy the OG, but every time I see the footage from one I get sucked back in. It's not like BM is sponsoring YouTubers to pump an old camera on the second hand marker.

Am I crazy for still wanting it? Or is this just the same dopamine rush we all get when looking for new gear?

Fairlight to Izotope RX (or any restoration) Roundtrip Order?

I wanted to check if there are any glaring mistakes in my "signal chain" for dialogue.

  1. Rough edit video/audio on EDIT page. Normalize audio at clip level.
  2. From Fairlight, send audio to external (Izotope RX). Fix big issues in RX (mouth declick etc.)
  3. Back to Fairlight. EQ, then Compression, then Limiter. (EQ DY FX Order)
  4. Final boosting of audio done using compression make up volume.
  5. Fairlight AI Voice Isolation

I'm still not 100% on the order of operations but this is what I've gathered so far. I also haven't had good luck with Fairlight's De-esser. How does this all look?

Best way to correct Key Light mismatch on skin?

So I made a small mistake. Btw it's indoor, controlled lighting so only my skin is a problem.

I set my key light to 6500k today instead of 5000k like my previous clips. BRAW 8:1.

Good news is that it's talking head, so magic mask + power window did a good job of selecting only my skin from the neck up.

I tried grabbing a still from earlier shots and A/B matching using only temp/tint. I played with these settings in primaries, log, and HDR panels using scopes but it's not coming together, or maybe I just need to be precise? I have a micro panel but have not pulled it out yet.

Is there a preferred way of doing this that I'm missing?

I still get nervous.

Been doing this almost 4 years.

There are still shippers that strike fear into my heart. You know the type of place where everything about it is stressful?

Driving there = stressful, Checking in = stressful, navigating their tiny yard = stressful, docking = stressful.

What's crazy is that I've done it enough times to where I know the drill but I still feel cortisol when I see the dispatch.
