So Haunt Me : early 1990s sitcom

When Ghosts started, it got compared to a few old shows, such as Ghosts of Motley Hall and this one, "So Haunt Me".

I've just found this and only started watching it. It's.... not good. But might be of interest to see how it develops.

Basic storyline is a family move into a house that's haunted.

Has anyone got their Google Mini smart speaker to play Radio Cymru ?

Mildy rhetorical question, as I have got it to play Cyrmu, but it's stupid.

"Hey Google, play BBC Radio Cymru"

If you pronounce it correctly, the Google speaker will usually play you BBC Radio Cornwall.

If you say : "Hey Google, play BBC Radio C Y M R U " (actually spell the letters), it then says "Playing BBC radio sim-rew", but it then correctly plays Cymru.

Look, I'm English, but I respect the Welsh language, and this is stupid. Anyone have a better way, or are Google just ignorant?

I know this isn't Ghosts, but it's the Six Idiots doing a punk song that will teach you about The Luddites (and it's really good) [From Horrible Histories when it was good]

Can I override immich-go discarding filtered file (reason : trashed file) ?

I've very recently installed immich on a Raspberry Pi 4 (4gb) with an external drive, using Dietpi.

Its all working very well and I'm impressed!

I requested my photos from Google using takeout, and used immich-go to upload them all for me.

immich-go upload from-google-photos --server=http://myserver.lan:2283 --api-key=myapikey --concurrent-tasks=3 --pause-immich-jobs --on-errors=continue zips/*.zip

and it worked well, though I had a number of 500 Internal Server Errors.

I re-ran the upload again and it all worked ok.

But I notice in the log that there were 450 pictures that were filtered because : "reason : discarding trashed file".

Maybe I want these?! I've deleted a lot to get some more space on Google.

Is there a way to override this filter, and allow immich-go to upload previously trashed files, so I can at least see what they were?

I had a look at the docs but couldn't see an obvious way.

Thanks

Ian

IHD occasionally rebooting by itself - failing? Can you get replacements from Octopus?

Although I've got an octopus mini and the app, I find the IHD useful as I can see at a glance how much electricity is being used, which is useful in Agile tariff during peak times.

I leave it showing live electricity usage, but recently I've sometimes found it showing the "used so far today" cost display, which is the default.

I've actually seen it rebooting without having touched it.

So I'm wondering if it's failing, and if it's possible to get a replacement?

Are there IHD that know about agile variable tariffs and can show realistic cost estimates based on that?

But mostly I just want to be able to see live usage at a glance.

Thanks

An interesting bit from Count Binface on the Quiet Riot podcast - typed here verbatim

I went on BBC Newsnight - did anyone see that? Live on BBC 2 , Paddy O'Connell being very cheeky with me. And I gave as good as I got. But then lovely little Nick Watt, who sat next to me, revealed, that apparently, British Parliamentarians have been spending time in the House of Commons, working out how to accommodate me, in my full regalia, if and when I win.

Christmas in July. Wait no it's August 1st now. Anyway, inexplicably I'm re-watching the xmas specials

In "It's Behind You", I love how Robin perfectly describes the British concept of banter among friends. "Why You make me Ugly Sister?"

Pat (embarrassed) : "Oh, well, you know, because..."

Robin : "Because it's funny! I got a face like a horse's bum! Everybody laugh. It don't mean they don't like me."

Now watching the 1st xmas special, Ghost of Christmas, where Julian has a realisation and shows a bit of heart, possibly for the first time.

This seems wrong to be watching these during a drought.

Merry Christmas!

Agile rates (also savings fro the VAT cut)

I've just made a spreadsheet of my electricity usage and charges for the winter period last year. I wanted to see how much a VAT rate of 0% would save me, if all other things were equal.

The answer to that question is, for 6 months from October 1st 2025, a VAT rate of 0% would have saved me around £19. Thats 19 more than nothing, but not a huge amount.

But the other thing I looked at was my average unit price.

I'm on Agile, and have been for several years. try to avoid heavy usage at peak times, and move heavy usage such as washing machine, to times when electricty is very cheap, free or even negative.

I don't have an electric car, batteries or solar.

Anyway, looking at the "average unit cost" as printed on each bill, I was quite pleased overall. I'm always reasonably lower than any fixed tarrif, and sometimes much lower.

Month Ave Rate
Oct 12.47
Nov 17.64
Dec 16.36
Jan 21.23
Feb 18.71
Mar 17.77
Apr 4.62
May 18.30
Jun 5.25

I did do some more detailed breakdowns of the stats in my first year of Agile, and it showed that, for me, although there might be some days, some weeks even, when I was paying more per kWh, this was vastly outweighed by the times when I was paying significantly less. All of those average unit costs in the table above are below the current unit cost for a fixed scheme.

Just switched over from G6 to G7 and getting misleading low readings.

My last Dexcom G6 ended today. I've been happy with them, a few have given me problems but mostly they've been reliable.

I'd already been sent some G7s, so I put one of those on.

When it started, it showed a glucose of 5.0mmol/l . But this quickly dropped down and the hypo alarm sounded. I did feel a hypo, so this seemed genuine. I ate 3 dextrose tablets, and waited.

More alarms, had more dextrose.

More alarms, more dextrose.

Alarm stopped.

30 minutes later, more alarms. I take more dextrose.

This repeats a few more times.

Eventually I do a finger prick test (should have done it sooner), which shows BG of 10.0 mmol/l . Meanwhile, the G7 is showing me at 2.3 mmol/l . I have no hypo symptoms (and I would KNOW if I was at 2.3 ! )

I dithered, then stopped the sensor, took it off, threw it out and started a new one.

Which is now showing 10.0mmol/l when a finger prick is actually 14.3mmol/l

Is this normal for G7s?

note : I am in UK. hence mmol/l readings. I also have an ypso pump and am using the CAM APS FX software on my phone to give a hybrid closed loop system, which had been working well under the G6 but these initial problems have made me feel uneasy about it all.

Progress / Gears over the years

This is just an observation really, not a request for help. Something I realized this week which made me quite happy.

I bought my first bike - a Mountain bike - in 1993. It had a mid-range Shimano groupset on it (STX? I forget now). But, even when well adjusted, it wouldn't shift if you were pedalling too hard - you had to ease off a bit. That just seemed to be the way. Climbing a steep hill, standing on the pedals, there was no way you'd be able to shift down without easing off and losing some momentum.

I've now, in 2026, got a street legal e-bike (pedelec - limited to 15MPH pedal assist) with a motor in the front wheel, and VERY basic Shimano 6 speed indexed gears on the rear wheel. Its got a screw-on freewheel, not a freehub. It's really low-end, built down to a price.

And yet it shifts perfectly. I can be struggling up a steep hill, and yes, the front motor is helping a bit, but I'm still standing on the pedals. And I shift down, and it shifts effortlessly. No complaints, no grinding noises, no delay.

That's all. I went for a bike ride today, and I realised how good the gear shifts are, and have always been.

I like tinkering with bikes, but its good when you can just appreciate how the bike is performing and how things have been refined over the years.

Looking for the name of a secondary school geography book I had in Hastings in the early 1980s. It had this view on the front cover (kinda opposite Battle Abbey, looking North). Book was geography of Kent & Sussex, including geology, oast houses, Kent coalfields.

The problem is that I don't know what it was called, so searching for it is hard, but I'd really like to find a copy if anyone remembers anything about this book? I found it fascinating as a kid, even though I didn't enjoy the geography lessons very much. Was aimed at early secondary school pupils. It looked fairly new when I had it, so maybe was late 70s / early 80s edition? It may have had "weald " in the title, that was certainly a topic discussed inside the book. Was about A4 in size, not especially thick so I'd guess under 100 pages.

Thanks fin advance for any info you might have

Curious improvement in sound quality via Google Mini smart speaker when playing 6 music

I've an old Google Mini smart speaker in the kitchen, used chiefly for "set timer for 10 minutes" when cooking, but also "play BBC radio 6 music".

I noticed recently that it sounds richer somehow. Bit more depth to the sound. Hard to describe.

Has anything changed at 6 music, BBC sounds or..?

My partner agrees it sounds better, and it seems to have happened recently.

Not tried other sources yet.
