My electric start isn’t working and I think this is an intake sensor that is not connected but it could also be a tip over sensor (likely not though because I’m pretty sure my tip over sensor is under gas tank and has label that says up)
This sensor was near the battery area of my bike and was likely disconnected by previous owner
I’ve been using Claude to learn c++ for many many months now, and it’s gotten to a point where I feel like I am dependent on ai to code. I’ve been using Claude to teach me and guide me as a teacher, but I figure out what I need to write, I eventually give in and ask for syntax because I literally don’t know it, but sometimes I’m able to figure it out and build stuff on my own. I wanna get away from this style of coding because I feel like I have a lot of gaps in my fundamentals and I when I sit there with no ai and try to write code it feels daunting.
I’ve been using learncpp a lot recently and I’ve been taking notes but still feels like I’m not retaining a lot of that knowledge because I don’t use it in my project (financial order book currently).
sometimes when my pc is on the fans on my pc crank up super fast and all of my monitors turn off, but the pc is still doing whatever i was doing (i know this because i hear audio through headphones and videos or games continue). i cant shut down the pc using the case button or restart it using the case button, so i usually just unplug it from the wall and plug back in.
some times when i get it rebooted the drivers are completely corrupted. i know this because im only allowed to use one monitor, and it stuck to 60hz as well as a way lower resolution (this might be safe mode im not sure). then when that happens i try to install drivers and it gives me an error basically saying the installation was interrupted or corrupt (cant remember which one). so im then forced to uninstall with ddu and reinstall my drivers.
that driver corruption issue only happens if i leave the pc unattended like that for a while. lets say i leave my pc on and go do something for an hour and come back to it like that, its drivers are usually corrupted. however if it happens and i immediately unplug and plug back in from the wall it just boots up like normal.
i dont get any blue screens or anything like that. i checked event viewer and found event 41 kernel power though (might be from me unplugging and plugging back in)
So I’ve been dealing with a starter issue on my 450 for a while (e start just whirrs and won’t spin it fast enough to fire, kickstarts perfect) and finally took it to a shop. They did a compression test and got 45 psi and said it needs a top end rebuild or just needs to be tore down to be looked at
Before I dropped it off this thing started in 1-2 kicks every time and idled totally fine. I could find tdc (had to push through a solid compression wall) and kick it over no problem. Ran good. If compression was really that low wouldn’t it run like garbage or be hard to start?
Also and this is the part I really don’t get my e start doesn’t actually work, it only weakly spins the engine. The shop said they got the starter motor to function but I think they meant they just got it turning, not that they fixed it. So if they did the compression test cranking it with a weak starter, wouldn’t that give a falsely low number since it’s not spinning fast enough to build real pressure?
when i start the bike i have a whirr sound with a very rare crank. i replaced my sprag clutch and the gear it connects to on the crank shaft and it still whirrs. I thought this was strange so i load tested the battery with a multi meter. resting the battery read 12.7v (brand new battery), when i pressed e start it reads 11.4v. i took off the boot on the starter motor itself where the positive cable goes, and i touched the negative probe to metal and positive probe to that cables bolt, i pressed e start and only got 10 volts.
so somewhere in between the battery and the starter motor there is voltage being dropped and its probably not enough to start the engine but enough to whirr the starter motor.
i put the black probe on the left bolt/terminal on my starter relay shown in the video and positive to the terminal on the right and it read 12.7 volts. when i pressed e start it read 0-0.3 volts, which it looks like that means the relay works.
i cleaned the terminals for positive and negative on the starter motor itself and it still didnt work and only whirrs.
i just bought this bike and the E start doesn't work (thankfully it has a kick starter and it works fine). it made a high pitched whirring sound and either took a while to crank the engine, or it didn't turn over at all, where i then had to kick start it. other times it would just start right up like normal. this lead me to believe the starter clutch sprag was worn down (part 7 on the diagram). it is supposed to spin one way but not the other, and i believe mine is worn and spins freely.
ignorantly i pulled it apart and replaced part #6 which i originally thought was the problem. ive also tested the battery and it sits at 12.7v and dips down to 11.5v when using e start which i believe is completely normal. the only thing i can think of is it being that one way bearing/sprag being worn or completely broken. please let me know your thoughts.
