My queen and her first workers

They are lasius Niger. They don’t seem to care too much about light? Im not bothering them too much, but it’s just something I’ve noticed. They don’t seem to care. I’m aware the set up is too big for their size, but they needed to be moved due to mould in the set up, it was a spice jar as that was all I had when I caught her. There’s two fruit flies in there I gave to them, and they’ve taken them into the nests with them?

The other day i was on a dog walk and a family were playing with nerf guns in their gardens and the little bullet thing flew over their fence, I threw it back over the fence and they kept asking who did it. I shouted “ME” out of instinct. They have no idea who i am. I am mortified.

Idek who they are!

My queen has her first larvae!

(Also I know she needs moving asap, I’m planning to get her into a test tube setup (somehow) as soon as her first workers arrive. I’m thinking of doing that by placing this spice jar in a Tupperware tub and a clean test tube set up in as well, hoping she’ll move set ups with the help from her first workers.

Slow colony progress

For reference I caught my queens (5 of them) during a nuptial flight on the 5th July. By the 12th they had laid their first eggs (first photo)
They have laid more now, but none of them look like larvae? Is this normal progress or are they all infertile? (Second photo taken 24th July)

Tips on diapause for lasius Niger?

I’ve seen a lot of advice for transitioning your ants into daipause, but none for people that don’t have ac, a steady way to decrease temperature… as such I just wanted to know, especially from people in the UK, how you manage your colonies during this time?

Are the two different piles of eggs meaning on is more mature?

Typo in title: meaning one is more mature**

checking on them about 1-2x a week. Every time I do I try to see if the eggs are at the next “stage” but I’m not finding it hard to tell the difference between eggs and larva

Is this an ok ant farm for a beginner colony?

As in a small colony with only a few worker ants. I don’t have one at that point yet but got this ready just in case. Just wondering before I use it what other more expert ant keepers would say about this? It came with a sponge for the ants water which I might change for some cotton and a small bowl for their food

Implant ran out and now bleeding through every tampon and pad I put on

Hi all, it’s the month that my implant expires and I’m on the waiting list to get it taken out. Currently I’m having to wear a tampon and a pad to catch the bleeding and I’m STILL bleeding so much it fills the tampon, then the pad, then leaks onto my underwear within a few hours. I’ve been bleeding for about 3 weeks now and it’s getting worse and worse. Just wondering if this is expected at the end of the tampons date, as I’ve never bled like this in my life? Has anyone else had this happen?

What to look for to find a queen ant (UK)

Hi all, looking to start my own colony by finding a queen ant, I don’t mind what type but preferably not red fire ants. I’m in the UK for reference, I found what I thought was a queen but she still had her wings and was a bit small so not entirely sure. I let her be. What places should I be looking for and what times? Any advice appreciated’
