Parking in permit areas

I live downtown closer to businesses. A portion of my street is for permit only and the other portion is free/public parking. The public portion is always full, and then people start parking in the permit area to go downtown. Especially on days like this I struggle to park within a 5 minute walk of my house because people going out to eat or shopping are constantly taking up the spaces for permit only.

Is there any way to get the city to enforce the permits? I never see anyone giving out tickets for cars without a permit.

I know it’s a part of downtown living, but it’s frustrating when I pay for a permit and rarely get to park remotely close to my house.

Camping for the first time

I’m going camping for the first time (in Canada).

What is the one thing you never thought you’d need/want? There’s so many “packing lists” online, but they all say the same basic stuff. Is there anything beyond the basics I should bring?

anything fun or useful!

Butter chicken.

Do Indian restaurants (I’m in Canada) typically use Passata or crushed tomato for efficiency?

I typically use fresh, but tomatoes are so expensive where I live. Hoping to get “restaurant” quality with passata

Moving to the mainland

I don’t have a set date, but wondering if anyone has any advice to moving to the mainland?

Is it worth getting a uhaul for all my belongings? Or better to sell and start new? How far in advance should I be looking for rentals (I have family to stay with)?

It feels so overwhelming so any advice is appreciated!

Edit. Mainland Canada to make it more clear

Cutting mixed texture hair

My hair has ringlets at the base of my neck, some random straight section in the middle, and waves on top!

Should hairstylists be straightening my hair before cutting? They always go to straighten my hair, but I feel like that may not be correct for my hair type? My hair never feels even after I wash/dry my hair post cut. I also don’t want to tell them how to do their job.

Syriana

Did Syriana close? Google says temporarily closed and they haven’t posted on FB since Dec 2025.

(I know I can call but they’re closed closed Mondays either way and I’m curious now lol)

Canister vacuums

I just got a canister vacuum after having an upright vacuum for years.

MY LIFE IS SO MUCH BETTER! I will literally never go back to an upright vacuum again. So much better for stairs, baseboards, corners and crevices, couches, and underneath furniture.

If you’re debating between an upright or canister, the ONLY downside I’ve had so far is storage. It’s not as easy to store, but it’s worth it!

I got the Bisell Powerforce bagged vacuum. I’ll admit it’s not the best vacuum out there, but it’s very affordable and great for smaller things like the above mentioned! Hopefully one day I will get the Miele canister

Chicken noodle soup fusion

My whole house is sick so I want to make some brothy soup. I find chicken noodle soup quite bland, and I don’t have the energy to commit to something like pho.

Any ideas on how to upgrade chicken noodle soup (homemade)? Like a fusion vibe!
