Handy shims

Handy shims

Seems like I’m always looking for a way to shim something up an 1/8-1/4 and it needs to be a static dimension and not taper. I’ve been keeping a handful of these in my truck for shims. Super nice with the adhesive back and you can cut them to shape and size.

How do you protect your ankles, or am I gripping the rope wrong?

Rope climbs were programmed, I normally wear a knee sleeve over my shin, but I keep getting burns. The rope was going over the sleeve, it wasn’t touching skin directly. Do I need to do a double layer? 205, 5’11, I’m not a light person, there’s definitely some pressure on that point of my shin.

I jay-hook and can hit the 12’ beam with one pull, I Spider-Man the heck out of my first pull.

Shore, river or dock fishing

Looking for suggestions on fun and easy fishing spots for a 10 year old and their boatless dad.
Not looking to land monsters, but some active sunnies or carp would be a blast.

Update: the training paid off

Parents were victorious! 4-3 and one of those goals was scored by our goal keepers daughter…looked awfully suspicious.

Only one dad went down with a knee injury, still waiting to hear severity, also assuming there will be some diagnosed injuries this morning.

Personally, achillies and caves are sore this morning, but feeling better as I move. According to my daughter, I’m a fast and aggressive player, but my kicks were suss, passed were bad, and I was trying to play the whole field…

My engine was great, speed was great, but my goodness, staying with those quick turns and switches was tough.

10/10 would play again next year.

I’ve trained 12 years for this. Tonight’s the night.

My teenage daughter’s end of the year soccer party, kids vs parents. I’ve always said Ive done CrossFit to be able to keep up with my kids, let’s see if I can!

Spoiler: I’m going to blow a hammy, or she’s going to run circles around me….. probably both.

Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel. By Damien Friesz at Mecca Tattoo, Mankato MN

I came to Damien with a very vague idea of an illustration from a 1939 children’s book in American/Traditional style, and he f’ing rocked it.

Van, truck, or trailer? Show me what you use!

I’ve been working out of a long box crew cab with a topper and a bed-slide for a few years. I was pulling a 17’ trailer before that but downsized which now requires more loading/unloading than I’d like.

I do mostly interior remodel work, so I need a ton of different stuff from ladders, tile setting tools, to drywall and finish tools along with all the rough and finish carpentry stuff. Plus room for material or small loads of debris.

Im a packout fan so whichever route I go, I’d want it to be focused on that system

Do I get another trailer and deal with the parking, hook-up and unhook fiasco?

Or do I go to a transit/sprinter with a high roof?

Show me your rigs!

Advice on inlays

Solid walnut glue up slab, with walnut sapwood inlay.

I built this table last November in a garage shop without humidity control or static heat, so I assume my problems are humidity related no that it’s that time of year. We keep the house cool and as dry as possible, but that southern MN corn humidity is a bitch.

Should I sand the high spots down, or wait and see what it does when fall/winter comes along?

It only has tung oil (minwax fake stuff) and a couple coats of paste wax, so sanding it down wouldn’t be a huge mess.

Someone thought this profile was a good idea for base over wood floors.

All the look of base and shoe in one piece! Of course….. now I have to scribe all of the base over wood floors on a remodel instead of adding shoe after the fact.

I plan on running it all through the table saw and putting a bevel on it for easier scribing.

And, this is going to look simple-jack over the carpet in the bedrooms
