Yummy Bowls

Paid for two, but can’t get over to pick them up. Happy to have them roll over as it’s just a donation, but if anyone wants them, let me know and I can give you details.

Anything to play for?

End of the season and the title is decided, most of Europe too.

Just one relegation spot to be confirmed (It’s amazing that spurs, who cannot win at home, are playing Everton, who cannot hold on to a lead, in a game that could save west ham, a team that sacked the manager of Everton, a team that seems intent on doing everything wrong, against Leeds, who have nothing to play for but keep getting points).

For those of us with little to play for other than fun or maybe one position change, what are you looking for out of the final weekend?

Forest fan here, and let me be clear, no beef with Bournemouth, who have been a fantastically entertaining club this season, I’d really love to beat them just to get that monkey off our backs.

Going In A Different Direction

I know there’s a lot going on, but since the strike a couple of years ago ended, I’ve noticed more and more instances of being ghosted or not told a production isn’t planning on using someone.

Not even the classics going in a different direction or hopefully next time.

Highs and Lows

We’ve had some good times, some less than good…

What’s been a favourite game or season and least favourite game or season for you?

For me - 97/98 season was just such a blast. Yes, we were in the championship, but every player was having a great time and we scored for fun.

On the bad - 2016/17 was just hard to watch for many many many reasons.

Mulling

Grew up in London and now live in the states. I’ve only been to the city ground once (we beat QPR, prem 95 or 96ish final game) so most of my support has been away games.

For that one game I don’t remember us singing Mull O’ Kintyre at all… did I just blank it out? So much has been done about how we sing it and have done since the 70s or 80s during our current prem time, but I genuinely don’t remember it being done at that game at all. Do we really do it at every game?

Heading for the Exits

This season feels like a record number of times that fans have left the ground early (wasn’t there even some fans leaving in the first half in one game?). It is genuinely something I don’t remember from when I first started going to games in the early 90s (wasn’t allowed at games in the 80s) except for a few times at international games for a few people who were “getting ahead of the rush”.

Is it becoming more common? Performative (yes, I’m looking at the Man City fans from last week)? Was it more common?

Which team or teams has the most leaving early fans?

Championship Play Offs

Watching Southampton v Middlesbrough.

It’s hard to care too much about the result for either team, and whomever wins still has to play Hull, but do we want a poor Southampton in the Prem so that there’s more chance of signing Hackney? Or a kind of not good Middlesbrough for the “real team, it’s been a long time” of it all to win?

If VP Moves On

The gaffer has done wonderful things and got the team as it is believing. He’s given opportunities to young or forgotten players, and it’s made the end of a crazy season a lot more enjoyable.

But…

He has previous of not sticking around a clubs for very long.

The big man has previous of changing managers a lot.

If we are going for a bit rebuild, including a new manager, and if Silva is going to Benfica to replace Jose… what are people’s thoughts on Iñigo Pérez?

He was supposed to join Iraola at Bournemouth, but because of permits, ended up staying in Spain and becoming a manager in his own right. Similar style of play, has done well with Rayo Vallencano.

Do we want another older tried and tested? A familiar face? Or a new up and comer?

Here we go!

A little back story; I grew up in London, England, and was always an avid walker. Kept myself pretty light - between 165-185lbs - and have been tall since I was a young teen (6’4”).

Later in life I gained a little weight after some sporting injuries, moving closer to 200lbs.

Later still, I moved to LA. That was where the real problems started. I went from happily walking most places, to struggling to find ways of fitting walking into my daily life. A new job, new country, and a lot of stress eating saw the weight go waaaaaay up. 265lbs.

During Covid, getting time off work, fitting in daily walks again (and some biking) saw the weight fall off to get back to 215lbs. But then it was back to work, back to 12-14 hour days, often with 1-2 hour drives, round trip, and a lot less walking. Sleep was a mess. Weight jumped back on.

I’ve been refereeing soccer matches at weekends, which gives me a lot of running, but miss the clarity and joy of walking.

I’ve decided to make a stand (or stride!). I’m on day three of 10k steps plus. Today was just under 12k. Headphones on, early morning to avoid the heat.

My knees are a little tired, but I’m feeling good.

This community is inspiring me to really go for it.

MHD Irritation

I know this isn’t exactly a niche one, but the phrase “he’s/they’ve/you’ve got to hit the target there” really fills me with anger. I’m not sure if it’s because when I played I was a forward and had a streak where I really could have used one going off my backside (my striking partner was called Justin, and I had the nickname Just-wide), of because it’s such a dismissive throw away phrase to use against an elite athlete going up against elite athletes in high stress situations where just being in the right place is hard enough, but that phrase just makes me growl with annoyance. Maybe it’s a bit of both.

Firstly hope everyone involved in the clashes today are doing well, and recover.

I don’t want to watch videos on repeat of the incidents, but was wondering - of the two, the Sánchez into MGW felt the most reckless. Zach looked like he was going for the ball and the Chelsea lad slammed into him.

But Sanchez ran out punch at a ball that was falling into MGWs path as he was watching it drop.

Why was one penalty awarded for one, but not the other? Is it just the keeper getting a pass? Or something else?

Do you change your backroom staff when starting at a new club, or stick with what you have?

When changing, do you do it wholesale, or in pieces?

Also, why does it seem like every meeting suggests changing some member of staff?

I’ve always wondered why Iraola has tape on his fingers. I’ve not tracked it enough to see if it’s consistently on the same fingers or knuckles, or if the number of fingers taped stays the same, but have noticed he has it.

Anyone know what that’s about?

Hi coaches.

I’m currently coaching 2 teams, a U14 and a U12. They’ve both taken very different journeys, the 14s started slowly, with a couple of heavy losses, then started to tighten up in defence, and are now on a winning streak (4 out of 4 - including a tournament win).

The 12s started with wins, but now are starting to lose and play within themselves more.

I noticed that the 14s are cheery, never let the losses get to them, play for fun, but also never look at the opposition teams and talk about them. The 12s on the other hand have started to point out how the other teams are “better” or that x player “is really good” and that they probably won’t do well. Sadly some of this chat has started to bleed over into team mate criticism.

I’ve run chats and meetings where they talk about only what they like their team mates have done, and gotten them to point out good plays. I’ve also worked with them on mental resets. Myself and my AC are both very positive coaches, support from the sidelines, talk about the good plays and get the parents to cheer on, but I’m wondering if other coaches have ways of helping the mental and confidence side of the game at that age that doesn’t just lead to “don’t worry about them, you are a good team” chats?

Most people have a clear idea as to what the numbers 1-11 mean, in terms of positions. But what numbers from 12 onwards evoke a specific position to you?

For me 13 will always be back up keeper, 12 second string defender, 14 creative mid, 18 attacker…
