So, what are your impressions on the new Horizon?

I just received the email from Accutron today. Initially I was intrigued. I love the complications they added. But then I saw the watches dimensions. Yeesh - 41.5mm by 15.1mm. That's one thick watch. Too thick for my wrist. Darn. Just like the Spaceview 2020, it's just too chonky.

Getting Plex client on shield to work with Internet outage

I've gone through the steps to configure my local Plex server (running on a Windows 11 NUC) to work when my home's Internet connection is down. I've added my subnet to be "allowed without authorization" and I've set secured connections to just preferred, not required.

From my PC's browser the Plex services work when the Internet is down. So things are rosey - right? But the Plex client on my shield stalls out at the "Plex" splash screen. My shield is using a wired ethernet connection that is still fully functional. I'm logged in with the same Plex user account on both the shield & PC.

Is there something I need to set on the shield to get Plex to work under these conditions? Or, is this a bug with the shield version of Plex?

Bug with random rotation (PC-2)

Since the July patch I'm having problems with scenery rotation. Say I place a tree or a light post down with "align to surface" enabled. The placement of the first object is normal. Then when the UI pops up another item to place, instead of aligning it to the surface it's at a random angle and will not align to the surface. I have to go and click on the reset axis button or press esc to go back and reselect the item.

It's very frustrating and started with the July update.

Mediocre results with new 10Gbs Expansion card

I just received the new 10Gbs expansion card. I already use the older 2.5Gbs card. I'm using it with Windows 11 Pro. First off, I was surprised Windows didn't immediately properly recognize it. Okay, no biggee. I downloaded the FW driver pack for the FW 13 AMD AI 300. After that finished installing the ethernet card was still not recognized properly. Windows saw the card but it wouldn't actually work. Since it is using a Realtek RTL8159 controller I went to the Realtek site and downloaded their drivers. That got the 10Gbs card to be properly recognized and functioning.

However, when I did some simple file transfers I was disappointed with the bandwidth. I also have an Asus 10Gb PCI card on my desktop. This is what I compared the FW's card to. When doing large file copying going NVME to NVME storage via Ethernet (TPlink SX105 10Gb unmanaged switch with CAT8 cable) the FW's card had about 60% - 70% of the performance of the Asus card. Yes, it's faster than the previous 2.5Gbs, but not by much. I had the FW expansion card plugged into the right hand port closest to the display. That's supposed to be the faster USB4/Thunderbolt port.

Is anyone else getting better performance?

Does Plex Server have a memory leak?

I've been running the Plex Server on my Windows 11 Pro NUC for years. But the past 8 weeks or so I repeatedly have noticed the Plex Service using tons of RAM. I've seen it as high as 3.7GBs! I restart the service (and/or the NUC itself) and it goes back down to around 50MBs. Then I'll check it again 7-10 days later and its crazy high again, like above 2GBs.

It didn't used to do this. Anyone else seeing this?

Can anyone recommend a lawyer to write up a Will? I don't want to go with the DIY route.
