Sign-on bonus claw-back?

I got a sign-on bonus when I joined. I’m entertaining an offer where I would leave 2 months before the date where my original offer says I have to remain at GM or theyll take back the bonus. And yes inknow i should just ask to push my start date but i dont think i can by THAT much. So my question is, is it true theyll make me
Pay it back? It’s a lot of money for me.

Outpost playground + Picnic Place for a party

Looking at booking some tables at Picnic Place for a party (gathering friends and family, kids are elementary aged). Based on the map Picnic Place seems to be a 5min walk from Outpost Playground but I haven’t been over there in a while to gauge.

Is it close enough that parents at the tables can sort of see their kids, or do they need to be torn away from the party if they want to keep an eye on littles?

6/19 USA game viewing

Looking for a fun spot to watch the USA game ⚽️ on Friday, with our 8 year old. We went to a friend’s house for game 1 but everyone seems to be away this weekend. We have the day off so thought we’d do something better than watch at home. I can’t find much online.

Rev-a-shelf hamper cabinet feedback

Does anyone have this Rev-a-Shelf hamper cabinet? Planning it for our primary bathroom and I can’t figure out if the basket comes out so I can take it to the laundry room, or it’s built in so I have to dig the clothes out in the bathroom.

40th bday: family friendly drinking picnic

My 40th is coming up and I really just want to get my friends and family together with their kids and hang out in a park with food and drinks and a playground to send the kids to. (Kids are all elementary school so not toddlers to worry about.)

The only thing I can think of is to book a picnic table by Tunnel Tops/ Outpost Playground but I wonder if y’all have other ideas!

We’ll have 30-40 people, most coming from South Bay/Peninsula.

Requirements:
-Bookable (I’m not just showing up)
-Bathrooms
-Playground

Nice to have: parking lot

How to delay a start date

I just got an offer to go to a hot AI startup that I am very excited about — but I need and want to delay the start date. HM wants this role filled yesterday and they’re asking me to start by the end of June. This is a senior IC role. I am currently employed. I recognize there are a lot of people in this group who would kill to be in this position and I’m really seeking advice, not trying to flaunt anything.

2 issues I could use help with:

  1. My current employer has a clawback clause on my sign-on bonus until I hit an anniversary in late August. I know they do clawbacks and this is a significant chunk of money. New offer sign-on doesn’t cover this fully so I want to wait until this August date to leave so I don’t write a fat check. I think I can ask for a little more money on the sign on now, but likely won’t cover the clawback or would barely. Which feels sucky.

  2. Assuming they’re willing to wait until after this late August date… I also want to take a few weeks off. I’ve never taken time off between jobs and I’m just so burned out I need it. So I’d like to start the job in September.

Any advice? This is a great opportunity and I don’t want to screw things up but also I want to be made whole.

Dell monitor suddenly lost signal with Mac

Hoping someone has a good idea because everything I’ve looked up online is not working.

I’ve had this Dell S2722QC monitor paired with a Mac Book (varying models) since 2022 and suddenly yesterday when I unplugged the Mac to use as a laptop and then plugged it back in, the monitor stopped detecting signal. I’m using a USB-C to USB-C cable. Tried other (Apple) devices and all are getting the same error. Tried to hard restart yada yada, no dice. I don’t have a different cable but maybe need to buy one?

(I found previous posts with this issue, but sounds like people returned their monitor. I’ve had this one for four years without issue.)

Anyone use Cabinets.com?

We’re redoing both of our bathrooms. One needs a 32” vanity and one needs 94” — the latter being of course larger than you can buy.

We’ve checked with a local cabinet designer who uses Columbia Cabinets (used for our kitchen), and in trying to find a cheaper quote found Cabinets.com. Seems to be real wood, nice design. Price is 1/3 what local designer created. We have a contractor who can do the install.

But I don’t know anyone who has used them…. anyone?

Anyone work there and willing to share what it’s like thanks to the anonymity of Reddit?

This is a senior IC role, non-technical. I gather from interviews that the multiple co-founders lead to confusing decision-making and everyone has said it’s a “very complex” technology but I’ve been in the Valley for nearly two decades so that’s common.

I don’t know anyone there and the interviewers are not providing real insight on the culture at all. I’ve worked at startups before but smaller than this.

Any tips/insights? Thank you.

We’ve owned a home for 2.5yrs in SM and want to remodel it. We see home being gutted and remodeled all the time, tons in our neighborhood….. and when we’ve asked a few friends who are doing this it sounds like the projects are $500k+ (sometimes double that).

I don’t feel comfortable asking friends so asking on Reddit: how are y’all *actually* affording and paying for these projects. If I think of my friends, they aren’t CEOs or funded by foreign money. Just “normal people” with maybe one spouse in tech, which is us too. But I can’t wrap my head around where people get $500k+ in cash…

We spent two years working with a designer on renderings for our expansion and remodel. She did a few homes in our neighborhood that look amazing.

We broke ground last week and over the last several months she’s been super slow on text/email, responding to half our questions. A big 🚩 was when a week before demo was set to start we found out our permit was not actually issued, because she failed to upload a document that we have been asking about a month. We had frustrations with her communication style over the years, but this was extra bad.

Anyway, we’ve been working on picking out all-the-things and have zero guidance. She’ll occasionally reply to a text with photos. At this point a cabinet designer has helped draw up kitchen + bathrooms, we picked plumbing (on our own). I wonder if we can just finish the rest with our GC plus Reddit plus friends’ input? She was supposed to do construction admin for us but that’s not happening. And I realized we don’t even have a contract in place for this body of work.

We’ve sent multiple emails asking how we are going to approach this next phase of work now that demolition has started and I don’t have solid answers. I’d love to save money and not hire someone new, but wondering if we can just figure it out ourselves? This is our first such project.
