Hey all

I got 80U under general at the Bastian Voice Institute at the end of May. It did absolutely NOTHING. I had exactly 7 microburps over 2-3 weeks and then nothing. Not one single real burp. No side effects besides maybe the tiniest hint of slow swallow occasionally but really nothing else.

The immediate aftermath post Botox was absolute hell though. I was told I have a narrow larynx, which caused complications because it was difficult to get to the area internally. They had to use an extra scope or something. This caused me an immense amount of pain for 3-4 days. Felt like the worst strep throat I’ve ever had. Miserable. Apparently that’s not normal.

My next appt is booked for early October. At my video chat follow up thing a couple weeks ago, they recommended that my 2nd round be the in clinic treatment instead of under general.

If I go this route, which they recommend, it will be with Dr. Bastian himself. And really, who would I trust more than the man who discovered this condition/treatment? and changed not only my life but thousands of others too. I also asked for their max of 150U.

All sounds great except that I’m terrified of needles going anywhere near my throat. For some reason I don’t mind tattoo needles, but I nearly pass out whenever I get bloodwork or have an IV put in. They had to put an ice pack on my head when I got my IV in May lol. They said I was turning white.

I don’t think there is enough lorazepam in the world to calm me down enough to have needles in my throat. I would have to try and get a prescription for triazolam or midazolam and bring it with me (they said that was ok! just that they couldn’t give more than Ativan at the clinic). I don’t even have a family Dr so I don’t know how difficult that is going to be since walk in or virtual clinics don’t like prescribing benzos…

So all that being said, I know many of you have had the in office treatments. How was it? Pain scale? Did anyone else have ga first then clinic 2nd? They told me I could have the ga again if I want, but they strongly recommend the in clinic with Dr Bastian so I feel like I should listen to them (and also since it’s the man himself!)

I know I sound like a huge wimp and I need to just get over it but I really do start panicking and crying even just thinking about it. I hate this and wish I was braver :(

I think I just need some reassurance that it’s going to be ok and hear some of your success stories. I really thought the general anesthetic had a better chance of working. But it seems both methods have the same success rate according to BVI.

Also, I’m Canadian and have to fly there so I really need this round to work as it’s not exactly a cheap venture.

I have been googling vegan restaurants and there’s so many options compared to where I live! (east coast Canada). And it all looks so tasty, I’m having trouble narrowing it down lol. The only staple vegan food I don’t like is mushrooms

Also I’m going there for a medical procedure on my throat, so I will probably need softer things for the few days after my surgery. I have 2 days before to go all out though

Does anyone know if steamed lotus seed buns are offered anywhere? I’ve been trying to find them since a local restaurant took them off their menu years ago
