Are the pickguards of the Squier and Fender identical to the millimeter?

Bought an aftermarket pickguard (for a squier) and I don't know if it's sloppy or if the pickups on the fender are a couple mm wider. I'm picky, and flush is flush, loose is loose.

What does "modified" mean when applied to new stock?

Obviously when someone sells a guitar personally that they have altered they might describe it as modified and list the mods but I'm referring to instances where this is applied to new items, seemingly as part of the root description almost like how you use the word "vintage". Here's an example from eBay: For Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI Guitar Pickguard 4-Ply Red Tortoise. This looks vey standard to me, though I don't know if there are subtle differences that are imperceptible to the naked eye, like a difference of a few millimeters of pickup width.

NGD squire in tahitian coral, boy is it bold

apologies if disallowed, but does anyone with a squire VI want to trade a stock tortoise pickguard for the stock one here (light mint or maybe parchment, not white). I bought one but it's not cut right and that could keep happening over and over.

Is a shim the best way to get low action

I always considered my '91 Amer std strat fine as-is, or to out it another way, I got it so young ('92) and have had it so long that I was used to it and it never occurred to me to do anything that wasn't cosmetic like change the pickguard. I did adjust the action many years ago, at the saddles, but you can't go to far before you get buzz, is a shim the way to go? Are there any downsides?

Writing this I just remembered these guitars (mine included) have a port in the neck plate that I think is for this exact purpose. Is this a good or bad way to get a slightly convex angle on the neck?

Advice on buying a CV Squire bass VI

I've had a bass vi before but I'm just wondering, from anyone who bought a squire CV VI, are they of good, consistent quality from the factory. I'm a fender guy but I've been having some bad quality control experiences and am worried about having to do another return.

EDit: FYI, typos in the title are not fixable - Squier

D string fretting out only, raised saddle really high and still hear it

Just got a new mustang bass (so short scale), I have to raise the D string way up to keep it from fretting out, even now I can still hear a faint whine from fret contact. It's worse higher up the neck. The other strings are fine even though they sit lower. Should I return the instrument?

NGD heavily modded/partscastered tele

I felt like showing off my little frankenstein. I converted that black MIM strat in the back to a baritone with a subsonic neck; that freed up the MIM tele neck I was using on it. (I had ruined the tele body and the strat neck independently and thus combined the instruments.) I bought a used Affinity, routed the body for nashville style and swapped out the electronics for a 7-way with push/pull neck-on from 920D. Stole the nashville pickup from the same black strat (replaced with hot rail hum) and I wired it to a phase inverter switch which I put halfway up the horn on the tele. Got the wallpapery pickguard from Carmedon. So I've got 10 starting tone choices between the 7-way and the phase inverter and it plays beautifully with the 90's mex standard neck. I couldn't be happier with the result

Christone "Kingfish" Ingram

I can't help but be bothered by this artist and is is not because of any lack of talent. They push him on my favorite radio station despite the fact that he plays in a niche genre that is not part of their format - mississippi blues. I don't get the hype, he is talented but who cares about mississippi blues? My main gripe is his name, I just don't see how it could be more hackey or on-the-nose, Kingfish. When he speaks does he say "AH GA-RONE-TEE" like the Cajun Chef? It's like the hundreds of boxers nicknamed "Sugar". Ugh, so cheesy

Baritone to bass VI mod

OK, so let's say I wanted the new fender special edition baritone jaguar but I already have a baritone (yeah, I know I could have two), If I got the nut recut and put Bass VI, E to E strings on it, and tuned them that way, would they be way too floppy on the shorter scale? I guess it's about 3" shorter. Also, is there anything else I'm failing to consider?

Loud *POP* when I turn the amp off, I'm assuming this is the switch but wouldn't want to replace it and find out otherwise. Is it the switch? (solid state fender champion 110)

installed DPDT switch in my strat for phase inversion

When I flip the mini toggle, positions 2, 3, and 4 cut out entirely. Is the problem that the inversion is perfect and completely cancelling or did I mess up my switch somehow. Works when switch is positioned to original configuration.

Solid state amp, clean channel is fine but dirty channel is inconsistent, cuts in and out, sometimes buzzes, sometimes not.

Solid state amp, clean channel is fine but dirty channel is inconsistent, cuts in and out, sometimes buzzes, sometimes not. All pots have been cleaned and move freely, input and headphone jacks replaced (suspected input jack so just replaced both but that would affect clean channel as well.) Are my gain and volume pots on the dirty channel broken in some other way or do I have a bigger problem. It's a Frontman 15G, low stakes but I'd love to save the dirty channel if i can.

Installing DPDT (pole reversing) switch, should I encase the soldered connections (thinking silicone or hot glue)

I figure it'll reinforce them and they are pretty close together, but I don't know if that kind of insulation would be counterproductive in some way

Does anyone have recommendations for wire soldering flux? Is there anything important to consider or do you just go ahead with water soluble plumbing flux.

decking and intonation

I have a '91 american standard strat decked with a block. I have found that I run out of room for intonation, well, I got it there but had to remove the saddle springs of the E and A string to do so and have the saddles maxxed. Did the decking shift my saddles out of their range or is this just an issue with the american standard strats of that time period where the bridge placement is too close by a cm or so? I know I can check this by experimenting but if someone knows, that would save me some trouble.

Is the Mod Shop a disaster factory

I've gotten the impression that the Mod Shop is sloppy, I've even gotten the impression that this is considered common knowledge. Considering the cost and the fact that they are final sale it seems like an enormous risk. Does anyone here have direct experience or an informed opinion. I've definitely seen new stock fenders in the shop in the range of $2400 that were assembled haphazardly and didn't seem of particularly high quality so I doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility.

help me find a bad ground

I just wired a 920D 7way nashville tele control system(?) knobs switch, you get it. Anyway there's a bad ground and I have no idea how to find it. is the part defective? was my soldering shitty? did I just ground to the wrong place on the push/pull know for the bridge wire? the guitar works, though I don't know exactly how each position is supposed to sound given the series/parallel thing with the push/pull. can anyone help me ground this sucker properly?

Bit of a longshot question regarding rehoming parts

Not selling anything. Looking for opinions on whether I should bother trying to post some free Squire affinity tele parts. I'm making a nashville partscaster with the body, bridge, and the two pickups. That leaves a rosewood neck with tuners, 3 layer pickguard, neckplate (with screws but they are too long for a squire body, they are for fender MIM/MIA), and complete electronics plate with knobs/switch tip. Is this all just crap now or might someone want to use it?

My gut tells me that if you bought a bridge, pickups, and body, you will have spent enough money that you wouldn't want to cheap out on the other components, but if you put a couple coats of poly on the squire neck it'd be decent.
