Desatured pale plum blurring powder blush for cool olives?

I have found that this shade looks harmonious with my eyes and skin (similar to the model in pic 3, except less blurry skin) when I wear less foundation/concealer; it sort of blends in with my dark under eyes and discolouration from post-acne scars and makes them look less obvious than pinkier shades.

I would call this a cross between my version of “sad beige blush” and a classic plum color.

Inspo pics for the Korean blush can be found here. I think it’s a cream blush so inspo is only for the color, not the formula. To be fair, the model wearing the blush has it on so sheerly that I can barely make it out and the editing makes it look way more blurry than it would look in real life.

The products I know and/or own that resemble this shade have too much brown in them, which is not flattering on me. Also, powder blush sits better on my no-foundation skin as an oily gal. I find that cream blushes tend to be less blurred-out when I don’t have foundation on.

This may look corpsy on some but it looks lively on me. Anyone else?

I already have a Dandy Lions blush in a similar shade but it’s less plummy and has more violet undertones to it.

Where do I have to go to find this vibe at 10pm on a Friday night?

I am tired of the overabundance of dive bars, casual, dirty/was-great-before-the-pandemic spots.
I am looking for colorful, interior design-forward, film set looking places with good music (neo-soul, disco, funky grooves, trip hop, acid jazz) to spend a Friday late night out. Men in smart button downs, women in smart but frazzled tops too. Somewhere to forget the troubles of a busy week and LA traffic; a portal to another time.

So much of nightlife in LA has become social media hype and lacks authenticity. Influencers taking cute videos, it feels like an infant’s playground. Where do the adults go? With cool convos instead of scrolling on TikTok? The places people say are authentically rad are sometimes grimy, dusty, smelly, and gross. A place doesn’t need to look like an abandoned warehouse/parking lot to have character.

Fulfilling post requirements : Mid-twenties flirty woman with pizzazz, hun. Heels with blisters kind of gal with a feminist undercurrent. Based in WeST LA but loves NoHo and Krotona’s historical Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and churches.

I don’t know if a place like this exists but please share whatever comes to mind! Or thoughts on this topic, constructive criticism is welcome but rude comments are not.

Mini 🫒 Haul from the Dollar Store🍸💲

I have been exploring the makeup and skincare sections at the Dollar Store more this year as growing cost of living/stagflation hits me.📈😪

I found this green color corrector for $1.25 which is a good deal compared to my current (running out) L.A. Girl which is $6 at Ulta and $7 on the official L.A. Girl website. Hope this helps people who want a cheaper alternative that works the same. I tested it out right away and the only difference is that the L.A. Colors version is a bit drier and sets down faster than L.A. Girl. 🌵

The Golden Girls Paradise Pink Shimmer Lip Gloss 👄 was an impulse buy because it looked mauvey and cool toned in the packaging but let me tell you, it’s just a goopy silver lip gloss that does not feel good on the lips. I fell for the packaging, yikes! The purple background and nostalgia got to me, boooooo me. 🥲 A dollar twenty-five wasted but I’ll still try to use it once in a while despite the poor texture.

I also saw more makeup there that might be cool-tone friendly but it wasn’t looking olive-friendly so if you all have any recs that are olive friendly from the Dollar Store, be a sweetie 🍬 and drop them below as a resource to everyone who comes across this post, please and thank you.🫡

Pale drugstore lipsticks within this shade range that don’t pull warm/peach/orange?

So far, I have found Wet N Wild Skin-ny Dipping, Wet N Wild A Short Affair, L.A. Colors Barely There, and Wet N Wild Caught You Bare-Naked.

Inspo pics include Lindsey Lohan in the 2000s-2010s wearing this kind of shade and MAC lipsticks that are all sadly reformulated or discontinued.

I feel like the drugstore is the last place where these shades are available, definitely not Ulta/Sephora. I searched the Dollar Store the other day and they don’t carry these shades either.

Please let me know if you have any other reccs, thanks!

👄My Perfect MLBB: This shade lip product on cool, muted, fair-light olives?

This has been my favorite color to have on my cheeks and lips this year as a cool olive and I am looking to purchase more of these shades for my collection. I would describe it as a pale mauve-lavender nude (?!) with grey and lilac undertones.

I’m OK with lipsticks, lip tints, lip glosses, etc. as long as the color shows up clearly and it’s not tooo sheer. For lipliner, this is what Pink Frosting looks like on me so I already own it and love it for these looks.

Currently, to achieve this, I mix e.l.f.’s Hydrating Core Lip Shine in Delightful with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Lipstick Shaping Lip Colour in Barely There. It’s a pretty combo (do try it if you own these already) but I’d love to have a one and done lip that achieves this shade.

Dinto in 259 Deus looks too brown on me and 257 Ave Maria is too pink. I also struggle with colors pulling darker and more saturated on me, anyone else?

The images are taken from IT Cosmetics Superhero No-Tug Eyeshadow Stick in Mighty Mauve and MOB Beauty Cream Clay Eyeshadow in M111 Lavender Stone. Looks like what most people apply as eye products is what looks best on my lips as someone with muted olive skin. Can anyone relate?

90s - early 2000s Turkish trip-hop?

I was listening to Sürüngenler by TurkodiRoma (released in 2024), which is more trap-lounge/chill/downtempo, and I was wondering if I could find Turkish trip-hop. The female vocal in this song definitely reminds me of some late 2000s trip-hop I’ve listened to.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations! Teşekkürler🌷

📣SALE at Ulta📣 Attention, olives🍸Should I get this Fenty 225 neutral olive foundation for 50% off?

So Ulta is having a sale for National Lipstick Day as well as a bunch of things on sale that aren’t lipstick related.

I saw this one and I know Fenty does a lot of good olive shades, I just don’t know which of their olive shades would suit a light-medium neutral-cool olive that is yellow-muted-khaki-desaturated.

As seen in the photo, my current foundation matches my face and chest (more light than light medium) but not my neck (light medium), which I always underapply SPF to (I hate the feeling on my neck specifically). Haha, don’t mind my roller-curled hair. Shade matching gets so much harder in the summer. 😅

Any help appreciated and if anyone is interested, you can shop the sale here.

This color in a satin, bullet lipstick for muted cool olives?

I personally dislike the Fwee/Colorgram moussey texture of these pot lip products but this shade speaks to me. A lot of products claim to be this color but when swatched on cool olive skin, they look peachy or straight up orange.
It’s dusty, slightly desaturated, light, rosey mauve to me. Kind of like if Pink Frosting were a lipstick with more mauve to it.

Anyone have any bullet lipstick recommendations that pull this shade on cool olive skin?

Late 90s, demure, moody, introspective, late-20s woman vibe Korean 1st gen songs?

I came by these inspo pics from the kdrama, Romance 로맨스 1998, and I couldn’t help but wonder what Lee Young Ae’s character, Han Ji Sook, might be listening to.

I don’t see her as girly or outgoing or even bubbly, I see her as more serious, mature, put-together, moody, and slightly introspective.

More descriptions of her profession/life from online sources:
“Jisook, who is beautiful but no longer young, works as an art editor at her older brother's publishing house and is also responsible for a love advice column in a magazine. However, her own love life has been extremely bumpy. Approaching thirty, she remains single.””The year is 1998 and South Korea is in the middle of its worst financial crisis, the IMF crisis.”

Haha, I haven’t watched the kdrama so I could be wildly off but would love to know any recommendations that you feel match this vibe! The last recs I got made me love this sub, they were so spot on. This one feels harder to define but equally as fun to crowdsource.

Girly, sassy, smarty-pants vibes type of music from 1st or 2nd gen Korean music?

I’ve been really into Baby V.O.X, Brown Eyes, Jewelry, BoA, Seo In Young, and Lexy recently.

I found these inspo pics and thought: What music would these ladies be listening to?📻🎀👚👛👙💗

Not sure if this is the best sub to ask for recommendations but let me know if there’s another sub that’s more appropriate!

I think the main kpoppers and kpop sub is very post-2020-oriented so I don’t think they’ll even know about Baby V.O.X, Brown Eyes, Jewelry, BoA or Lexy in the first place. For the Korea sub, this may be too music-oriented or hyper-specific.

Not limiting the search to kpop, I also enjoy music by Yoo Jae Ha and Boohwal. I would say they fall into the kballads and k-soft rock category more so than kpop. I feel like these ladies would listen to them a lot too.

Well Written, Underrated Kdramas with Emotional Depth (2005-2014)

As stated in the title, I am looking for kdramas released between 2005 and 2014 that feature great screenwriting, are underrated or not the most famous ones such as Coffee Prince, and display emotional depth from their characters.

I am looking for kdramas within any of these genres, please: romcom, melodrama, slice-of-life, mystery, thriller, legal, fantasy, office, coming-of-age, comedy, or crime.

Please do not recommend any that fall into these genres: historical, sports, medical, high school, horror, sci-fi, or military.

I remember enjoying My Princess (2011) and Prosecutor Princess (2010).

A listing of dramas that I have already seen that are relevant to my request plus details of what I liked and disliked about them:

My Princess (2011) lines up with what I am requesting because it has a female lead that has her own view on life and is not willing to compromise for others even if she was forced into joining the royal family under unfair circumstances. She may not be the brightest at first but she has a strong sense of self and will work for what she wants to accomplish when she sees the value in it - emotional depth stemming from her decision to take control of her life and rise to the challenge. I enjoyed the plot for the most part, even though the villain characters were quite annoying and didn’t have much of a backstory. Pitting women against women is something I don’t like seeing in kdramas and sadly, it was present here. I enjoyed the fashion in this kdrama and found it to be representative of trends in SK during that time with a girly, early 2010s aesthetic.

Prosecutor Princess (2010) lines up with what I am requesting because it’s legal-setting drama with a variety of dramatic elements and character arcs. It features a female character that undermines people’s expectations of her. Even though people at work treat her with a belittling attitude, she is able to persist in growing her skillset. Again, the fashion sense is quirky and in line with early 2010s trends. I am requesting dramas that feature or don’t feature romance like in this drama as it’s not the only aspect of the kdrama. It’s also about the main character maturing and using her excellent memory for good rather than superficial goals in life: fashion/appearances. There’s subtext in the drama which is driving the male lead to commit revenge against the main female character which adds elements of suspense I enjoyed. What I disliked was how obnoxious the character of the female lead was written as, with a lot of whiny moments and acting aegyo in terrible situations (professional settings). The ML couldn’t take her seriously at times and I couldn’t blame him, I could only blame the screenwriters!

A complete watch history of all the Korean dramas I have seen so far (as far as I remember, I’ve been watching for years now), even outside of the dates I am seeking:

Crash Landing Into You

Currently watching:
Sassy Girl, Chun Hyang

Dropped after not finding it online with eng subs and 1080p:
Witch Yoo-Hee (2007)
Dal-ja’s Spring (2007)

In summary,
I am looking for kdramas that are :

No. 1 well-written,
No. 2 great plot lines,
No. 2.5 underrated
No. 3 feature good acting,
No. 3.5 available in at least 1080p online,
No. 4 adult settings (no high school or childhood settings like Reply 1997, for example), and
No. 5 have some emotional depth (light & fluffy is fine too as long as it’s well done).
No. 6 bonus would be great fashion and makeup from that era.

Please help me find more kdramas from this era that feature even more well-written characters - both female and male leads included!

[Product Request] Glycerin-rich face+body cream that’s cheap and long-lasting?

I recently found out that my skin reacts very well to products that feature glycerin and water high on the ingredients list so now I’m on the hunt for a cheap, lasting product that I can invest in and use year-round.

Please only recommend products that have a volume of 8 oz / 230ml or higher.
Please do not recommend vegetable glycerin, it needs to be formulated into a product and if possible, have an elegant formulation overall.

Budget is $10-25 for 8 oz/230ml +. Drugstore or Amazon recommendations are preferred!

I have combo oily skin with post-acne scarring and hyperpigmentation.

Has anyone (olives 🫒especially) tried these Vidivici liquid blushes?

I am so curious about these liquid blushes, the shade range looks like it would suit cool olive light complexions. Muted people too! Shades Kitten, Hazy, and Petal speak to me. Sofie is nice too.

I’ve never tried Vidivici products before but I read they were the first Korean makeup artist brand founded in 2005.

Grey-nude/light greige lipliners, help!!! + Colourpop Ashton vs. Elf Espresso Martini - how different are they?

I have Colourpop Ashton and I was wondering if any lipliner aficionados out there have both Colourpop Ashton and Elf Espresso Martini to let me know if they’re different enough that I could invest in the Elf one.

I know the Elf one is cheap so I could just buy it and test it on myself but I hate buying things that I’m not sure if I’ll wear or can’t think of who I can give it to.

I am on the lookout for nude/beige lipliners that pull grey or have grey undertones on cool olive skin - greige but paler. I love a dead lip — or as I like to call it — a man repellant lip. Any recs appreciated!

Colourpop Ashton and Elf Espresso Martini are too brown instead of beige for what I’m looking for and don’t have that grey in them.

Pic is inspo for the color of the liner I am trying to find. I know it looks straight up grey but it’s at least the right shade of grey.

2005-2014 kdramas with good screenwriting?

Lately, I’ve been nostalgic about 2nd gen and early 3rd gen kpop and kdramas. Inspo pics included that might spark your memory!

I remember enjoying My Princess (2011) and Prosecutor Princess (2010) although the female leads are sometimes too one-dimensional or overly emotional/clumsy in an obnoxious rather than genuine way. Please help me find more kdramas from this era that feature even more well-written characters - both female and male leads included!

I am looking for kdramas that are :
No. 1 well-written,
No. 2 great plot lines,
No. 3 features good acting,
No. 3.5 available in at least 1080p online (please share where if you know specific sites),
No. 4 adult settings (no high school or childhood settings like Reply 1997, for example), and
No. 5 have some emotional depth (light & fluffy is fine too as long as it’s well done). Action/thriller is OK too as long as there’s a female lead as well as male lead.
No. 6 bonus would be great fashion and makeup from that era.

I have been recommended Witch Yoo-Hee (2007) but I can’t find it in decent quality online with eng subs.

Shoutout to u/YogurtclosetSmart928 who makes all these amazing infographics and has rated over 250 kdramas on Reddit and perhaps elsewhere.

Best DOP San Marzano with pull tab at low prices from Italian-American online stores in the US?

So I know that San Marzano tomatoes show up on this sub frequently but bear with me...

I've been into Italian cooking for a while now and I'm looking to refine the taste of my meals. I cook mostly Southern-Italian meals and I basically use sugo rosso (red sauce) 4-5 out of 7 days -- not all pasta dishes but for oven-meals and meat dishes too. I end up using up a ton of salsa di pomodoro (tomato sauce). I decided it's time to level up to higher quality ingredients and invest in Italian-American business while doing so -- inspired by "Not Another Cooking Show" on YouTube.

I'm saving up for a car after college so I use public transportation/carpool/ride-share with my friends in Los Angeles at the moment (nightmare, I know) so having cans and heavy things shipped straight to me is the best solution for me to not have to lug things around or take up trunk space in a friend's car.

Buying good, sweet tomatoes in SoCal should be easy but it's also very expensive (at farmer's markets, I mean, since I don't have a Costco membership) so I've resigned to just buy canned tomatoes that I can (mostly) trust.

I was thinking to just try whatever's highly-rated on Amazon since shipping is fast and convenient but if I can avoid doing so, I'd rather support small businesses that ship from anywhere in the USA. I know Whole Foods has good Italian San Marzano but that's Amazon-owned now so it doesn't feel like helping a small business either.

As far as I can see online (to answer the question, "Why don't you just Google this?), only Mutti has a pull tab. Other brands don't include images of the top so I have trouble seeing if they have it or not -- hence, I assume they don't.

If you've shopped DOP San Marzano from any online stores or have friends who are said small business owners and you are sure the cans have a pull tab, please let me know! I got traumatized from a can opener accident I caused once where I cut myself so I can't tolerate it now.

Otherwise I will stick to the non-DOP Trader Joe's 14.1oz which costs $2.99.

Looking to bulk-purchase for cheaper prices which might save me money in the long run! Thanks to all who read through this!

What candle would she be burning in her bedroom past midnight?🌠

Actress Helena Bonham Carter poses for a magazine in Los Angeles in 1986. (Photo by Aaron Rapoport/Corbis via Getty Images).

Searching for notes of sheer nightgowns and poetry on the nightstand.

*Some poem inspo:

Rose Thorns
by Molly McQuade
Source: Poetry (February 2008)

Why do roses need their thorns?
Some things are little known.
But thorns of roses
spring and seize the surface
of  fey airs
before the roses come.
I’ve seen thorns huddle in a harmony alone,
hunkered down on green, wiry canes,
smoothed blades of whipping rose stalks,
and curl their polished tridents
to night’s call.
They are like stars
digging into firmament
with such desire,
you don’t quite get it,
and so healthy that
they almost have to wound,
or like bodies that can’t be argued,
borrowed, tamed.
The touch of a thorn
is a wry, deep telling
of the senses not to bloom
without a wish to,
without belief  in pain
to hold us true.

*The candle does not need to contain notes of rose, this poem just inspired me to connect it to the rose in Helena’s hands.

Candles that evoke this atmosphere: erotic thriller-y and 80s urban futurism?

I’ve been fascinated by this vibe and I would love to capture it in my bedroom with a candle, transport myself to a three-floor penthouse overlooking a massive skyscraper. Urban, clean, but not sanitized — mystery lingers under the careful folds of a blazer dress or pantsuit…

It started with…

I watched this reel on Insta by creator @evie_hatch (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWUO86HoB6M/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==) and I found it incredible how “Egyptian Blue” pigment was added to these portraits in order to make skin tones more cool-toned in places and the black shadows deeper.

She explains it really well so credit to her but I couldn’t help but think that what unites warm and cool olives is that we all seem to need to add blue pigment to balance out our foundations! The ELF and L.A. Girl blue pigments have literally saved me hundreds of dollars and I put them in my foundation, blush, contour, bronzer, etc.

Blue-based products are so important to my makeup staples: blushes, lipsticks, eyeliners, eyeshadows! It’s all about the BLUE!💙💙💙🦋🦋🦋

Adding blue pigment to skin colored pigments goes back thousands of years.

Please chip in with thoughts and ideas after watching the reel! The reel goes into slightly more depth on how adding “Egyptian Blue” makes the portraits more realistic and predates European artists’ use of chiaroscuro techniques using blue and light/shadow.

Art historians + color theory experts on this sub, please feel free to add any facets of this topic the reel does not mention! We want to learn from you!

P.S. I have been facinated by Fayum (Mummy portraits) for so long! So happy to know about this connection.

I also love learning about Indian Indigo, Persian Blue, Ming dynasty Blue, and all the other variations. There are so slides that refer to cultural connections to blue. Credit to whoever makes these informational posts on Pinterest with this info (photos above).
