Remember that article I was writing about alpha-gal? It just got picked up by Newsweek. I had to take a lot of science out for general audience. And while Newsweek isn't the prestigious mag it used to be, it has a huge reach. so maybe it will help some people.
this is my dressage horse. almost 3 yrs ago he was diagnosed w/ wobblers from cervical arthritis that was impinging on his spinal cord. He had a 2 level spinal fusion at new bolton. Yesterday we did canter pirouettes! Not FEI level, but what a triumph from the days I thought I might have to euthanize him.
It was discovered when oncology pts kept having anaphylaxis (a few died) from an investigational drug made from mouse cells. it's given iv so anaphylaxis was immediate. in 2004 they knew that in the southeast, some outdoors types were getting meat allergies after tick bites, but no one really investigated. then a researcher mapped out the locations of ticks across the us and found that lone star ticks were located in the southeast, where all the reactions were happening. it became an official diagnosis in 2004. 2. Alpha gal is a sugar carried by lone star ticks (maybe other ticks too) and all mammals except primates and humans. so when a lone star tick bites a human, or a gorilla, their immune system recognizes alpha gal as foreign and forms antibodies. some people go on to get AGS, and the antibodies are activated when they eat mammal. it's the immune system which attacks by causing gi upset (trying to expel alpha gal) or allergic symptoms.
B and AB blood types are less likely to get AGS because the antigen on their blood cells (the B or AB is the antigen) is similar structurally to alpha-gal.
snake anti-venom is made from horses so don't get bitten by a poisonous snake.
gelatin is in MMR and Zostavax vaccines (for shingles)
Hi, We want to drive from maryland somewhere in NY around 5 hrs but not too far from redhook and rhineback. Cold spring is one option but I've not been to this area. Can anyone suggest towns w redhook/rhinebeck vibes but closer to cold spring?
Ok, everybody be patient. I have no idea what I need here. I have a 2025 i5. I had been using my old tesla fast charger w an extension cord but have removed that since it's dangerous (I'm told). the fast flexible charger which came w the car only has a 110v adaptor. BMW web site says they are out of 240 volt. So I went to bmw parts direct and they are saying the adapter cable nema 14-50 won't fit my car. But my brother says that's what i need. This is way out of my wheelhouse. thx
Well, I haven't blown anything up yet. However, I had a tesla and only needed a short cord because the tesla home charger and charging port were so close. But I traded the tesla for an electric bmw and it's charging port is on the opposite side than the tesla. My husband bought an adaptor and extension so he could use the charger w his car, and I've been using it for the bmw. But I'm reading that it's dangerous to use an extension cord for type 2 charging. Is this true? So now i have the option of replacing my tesla charger w a new charger w a longer cord or continuing w the dangerous (is it really?) but shorter cable plus extension. My bmw is 2025 and has the older charging port, not nacs. I hope this makes sense, this is way out of my lane.
I have word installed on my old computer. Just bought a new computer (both are macs) and I want to install all the word documents from the old computer to 365.
Hi. I am recently diagnosed and sensitive to dairy and meat. I also write essays, and have been published in mainstream magazines. My husband is encouraging me to write a narrative/scientific article about alpha gal. (I am also a ret. physician so I get the science) Since the new yorker just published a long and entertaining (and way more well written than I can muster) piece on alpha gal, do you think there would be any interest, assuming it's well written and interesting? Just looking for opinions. thx
I started a subscription w sakara and cancelled after the first delivery. They acknowledged the cancellation, both on my online account, and in an email. I gave them one weeks notice, it was not last minute. Regardless, they sent a second box and charged me. When i complained, sakara said they had sent me an email a few days after the cancellation answering an earlier question i had asked and stating unless i responded, they would continue sending me food. I didn't open the email because i had cancelled days before. They are refusing to refund the money, so I will go through my cc company. But isn't an acknowledged cancellation a cancellation?
Hi. I've been having ibs symptoms for the past 7 wks. GI symptoms consistently start 12 hrs after eating beef or dairy, right as I'm eating breakfast. I have had many tick bites, lyme twice. This all started quite suddenly. I'm having the IgE alpha gal test monday. Here's the question-does having symptoms start 12 hrs after eating beef or dairy suggest it's something other than alphagal?
