Does anyone have any good mic / recording equipment recommendations? I’ve had pretty mediocre results so far and I was wondering if there’s any that stand out as great specifically for tubas/euphoniums
I've had this college recently recommended to me, it seems to be a college specifically for music educators. Is it worth it going to?
I bought a score for $1.49, and it automatically signed me up to pay first $70 then $85 every 3 months. I definitely do not want this, and my bank thankfully detected it as fraud and declined it. However, I can't cancel my subscription now, and even though the MuseScore Membership status clearly says auto-renew is disabled, it continues to try to charge me $85. How do I get rid of this? Do I have to call them?? Or should I wait until my subscription expires (see 7 days left). Also even though the ss below says annual subscription, I don't remember paying for that.
If Mahler had been as great in creating beautiful melodies, enchanting harmonies, stimulating rhythms and impactful forms as Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius were — do you think he would have chosen to deploy the constant irony and the circulation of banal and repetitive, homogenous material from work to work to such an extent?
This is an utterly serious question, not a provocation. (I will appreciate and contemplate every genuine answer and ignore all possible raging.)
I will briefly elaborate a bit more on my point.
Mahler reuses and recycles the same gestures and types of music from one symphony to another.
- The dotted ”tat-ta-taa” gesture mostly in brass is everywhere. I have found it as the main rhythmic gesture in all symphonies other than the 3rd and the 4th.
- The ironic brass trills are everywhere.
- The grotesque dances are everywhere — to the extent that certain sections are mutually interchangeable between the ironic dance sections of the 3rd, 6th, 7th and the 9th.
- The marches are of course everywhere.
- The finale of the 9th is a remake of the finale of the 3rd.
- I struggle to find any inventive, original or stimulating rhythms anywhere.
- Great melodies (or rather, highly inspired basic material in general) are just not there, rather just fragments.
I could go on forever. Yet when I complain about the music seeming to lack proper musical invention, I get the answer: ”It was on purpose, he was ironic, he was consciously making narratives through the banal”.
I strongly sense excuses there. Yes, I call them ”Mahler excuses”. I could live with all the excuses if they truly applied only to a couple of works. Yes, we do need "conceptual art" also in music. What is too much for me is that these excuses are applied as a "free ticket" to Mahler´s whole career and considered valid all over and over again -- which means that the same quality of basic material and renewal of artistic ethos and technique is not required from this one composer the way it is from other composers. In stead, in the middle of the Mahler Hype, we are supposed to praise him as the greatest musical genius of all time, unconditionally.
My answer to my own question is: Yes, the constant irony and narrative recycling is a way of masking certain compositional incompetence, both for the composer himself and for those who have surrendered unconditionally to the Hype. Our world loves superlatives and stories of Great Heroes. But in this particular case, one cannot completely evade the idea of "The Emperor without clothes".
Currently they're about tied with where felliniesque was at this time. Will they set a new score record?

I don't feel "transgender." There's unfortunately a lot of baggage that phrase comes with in my mind and I really just feel like a girl and always have. I think the amount of social pressure on trans people is stupid. Why can't it be just like getting a different haircut? I don't know if I could handle half-passing. How do you all do it? I hate this

Hi everyone, I'm writing a suite of waltzes to encapsulate the sounds of different colors. Currently I'm done with "Azure" in Db Major and "Crimson" in C# Minor. I think it'd be fun to get some inspo by asking yall which colors you associate with certain keys, so feel free to leave any ideas below!
My hairs been like this for a while and it’s so annoying, it looks mostly fine at the top then gets completely different in this kind of crazy wave pattern at the bottom. Should I just take the bottom off completely or is it possible to salvage it? Ideally I’d cut off as little as possible, and I want the ends to look normal and not weirdly flared up as they are right now. Also if anyone knows why the texture is so different please let me know, I recently switched to a new hair routine but I don’t think that’s exactly the issue

Hi all, I'm a sort a noob here, I was referred to drum corps by a friend and I find it a little confusing. I watched "The Romantics" by the Blue Devils and "The Point of No Return" by Carolina Crown and afterwards it kind of felt like I got yelled at for 10 minutes 😅
As a brass player I come from an orchestral background, so drum corps feels kind of like some maximalist contemporary work and I struggle to follow it. Are there any guidelines I should be aware of that would make it more enjoyable of an experience? Thanks in advance!

I’m going to go to college for music education, and unfortunately many of the best schools for it are in red states (namely North Texas and Indiana U). Would going to a red state really be that bad? (I live in Colorado)
I read that you can still get hrt there as an adult, so hypothetically if I was to go there for college for 4 years and came back, would that be a bad idea?
