I have been a long term holder but for the longest time this stock has not moved up one bit even with good news. I’m tired of keeping my conviction for this.

Anyone received a PIP before? How common is it?

Just curious about this annoying PIP thing.

How common is it out there and for what reasons were you given one?

Is it always a sure fire, and how do we not receive one?

edit: thanks for sharing everyone. Appreciate the different perspective of a PIP.

A stupid qns on grad desc for linear regression

Hi guys.

I’ve only started learning for a month so please bear with me.

I’ve been stuck with this concept for a while.

I understand that for linear regression, the prediction model is f(x) = wx + b

The cost function is J(w,b) = 1/2m (ŷ^i - y^i)^2. The goal is to minimise J so we can have an accurate w and b for the prediction model formula right?

Here’s where I’m lost at for grad desc.
I’m looking at
W = W - a dj/dw
B = B - a dj/db

And it expands to
DJ/DW = 1/m(f(x)^i - y^i)x^i
DJ/db = 1/m(f(x)^i - y^i)

I can’t seem to grab the concepts relating to this two.

Also, In my mind it goes like
I need to get the w and b for the prediction model.
J(wb) needs to get lower.

Grad desc is just running the numbers and it gradually brings j down to the lowest where we can have the accurate w and b.
If that’s the case why do I need to run a cost function before going straight to grad desc?

Which areas to focus on?

Hi guys!

I picked up python last month and am rly having my fun with it.

I’m still pretty new so I’m wondering which area should I be more focused on. I started out with the aim to go along ML path so most of the things I’ve learnt are data related. Like using and writing functions list dict loops while for error raising. Just getting started on numpy.

I’m thinking of going along the ai engineer track first. Any areas I should focus on? AI Eng is like SWE to me so having no background in swe id love to hear from you guys.

Also I’ve finished the first two courses on Coursera on Python for everyone and currently going thru Andrew’s ML spec.

Trying to learn as much as I can.

Also idk if it’s a good idea but I’m using Claude to teach me how to code at the same time. Introducing concepts and real world exercises and planning lessons to reach to goal of an AI and ML Eng.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

An unsent letter to you.. and your new baby

Hi guys.
I needed a place to pen my closure. I saw her with her new baby. Please allow me to.

——

Hey,

It’s been close to two years now since we parted, and a year since I’ve relentlessly tried to ask you to stay. We ended on very bad terms.

Today, I saw a mutual posting a photo of you with your baby with your new family. That moment froze and I felt all the memories coming back, not because I couldn’t let it go but it’s like looking thru an opening to another dimension where this future is ours.

In this two years, I didn’t know how I made it through. Constant sleepless nights, tears that I’ve shed but I’ve made a lot of progress moving on from you. I’m happier and the sadness knocks lesser.

I loved you deeply once and imagined this whole future we may have.

Tonight, that photo brought me back to reality where it’s really over. I know you’ve moved on way faster than me, that’s how you do.

I have nothing else I can say but I wish you’ll be the happiest woman. I truly wish for you to have a blissful life now. I wish the same for me too.

Years of anger and sadness has done nothing but destroy who I was as a person. But it was necessary to kill the person who couldn’t let this go.

There will be times I think about you and us but I think it’s really time for me to stop lying to myself.

Goodbye us.

Career transition into AI or ML engineer?

Hey all

Just want to have a quick view from everyone. Am mid 30s in a career that has nothing to do with AI and tech. But I’ve been very interested in AI and how it works and what can be built on top of it.

I’ve started learning python from scratch for the past month and have started cleaning up some data (I’ve very far off from being proficient I know but I find it quite fun to be bashing code).

I’ve also started the machine learning specialization by Andrew deep learning.ai and I’m kinda lost when it introduces the math like the formulas etc.

Idk if this is a wise choice, to be trying to transit into a new field at my age. If you’ve seen or heard someone doing the same, I’d appreciate if you can share them and if it’s rly feasible to do so.

My plan is to learn python, git, sql first while trying to pick up concepts of ML, then try to learn using tensor or PyTorch.

Again, I’m not sure how long it’ll take and if my age would be a big factor given that if I truly become proficient someday I maybe turning 40s.

Appreciate all advices. Thanks in advance!

hello world

Hey guys.

I’m picking up python because I’ve had a genuine interest in heading into ML and AI path.

I’ve went on courses on Coursera and also using Claude and gpt to teach me concepts and coding exercises.

Just wna drill more into the concepts that relates directly to ML. Any idea where are the ones?

I’ve gone thru the basics of functions and loops and now going thru manipulation of strings.

Just started a month ago and I feel bit overwhelmed because it seems like there’s a whole lot of stuffs to learn.

Do you guys have any advice on the path charted to head to the direction of ML? And if there are other good platform to learn from because there are so many out there.

Which IDE do u guys use for learning too? I’m using vscode but some courses recommend anaconda.

Appreciate your kind advice! And TIA!

Quick question on carbon frames

Hey all.

I have a colnago clx3 that I bought many many years ago. Stopped cycling for really very long ago more than 5 years I think.

The bicycle is kept over a dust cover and away from the sun. I uds that carbon frames may degrade but if it’s kept away from the sun and always indoors is it still safe?

TIA!

Car dealers in Singapore

Recently sold my car to a car dealer and can I say I absolutely detest the way that they conduct businesses, trying to lowball the heck out of you and inflating the price for the next buyer (I sold via consignment). I still sold mine because it’s the highest price I’ve fetched so far.

It got me thinking if there are other outlets for us to sell cars directly to other people. I know there’s a direct ad on sgcarmart and on carousel but none of them actually gives more information other than the make model and mileage. It’s essentially everything was on the surface.

In gist the experience was so frustrating that I’m actually considering to build a site myself for car owners and owners to be to deal with this directly.

I want a site that builds trusts, allow users to upload servicing records clearly on the site so mileage tampering and what’s fixed are transparent, no other surprises.

What other features would you guys think would be useful.

Anyone gyms at Htns Khatib?

Wondering if anyone here goes there. I’ve been going there for awhile now and if you are a regular there maybe we’ve met before.

Since I have a lot of time on hand right now, just wondering if anyone here goes there and maybe we can hit the gym. Gymming alone is bit hard to progress without spot

Anyone else into 3d printing and designing?

Looking for a hobby and brought back my old hobby of 3d printing recently. Last printer I had was in 2016. HolyS I got a Bambu and the quality is so much better and so easy to use.

I broke my electronic door lock the cover for the battery compartment. Went down to the shop for a replacement and was charged $70 for it. Came back home and decided to print it out myself.

Dimensions are abit wonky but it works and only costs $1 in filament cost.

Have printed a bunch of stuffs for my Dji drone as well.

Any other hacks u guys can think of using 3d printer? Thinking of building smth like a marketplace for it!

Is there like a hacker space or founders meet up?

Started my sabbatical from work and have a lot of free time. Picking up some skills and trying to find out if there’s anything to hack or build or start working on (am using AI tools)

Just wondering aside from those paid meet ups, are there any other ones that founders or builders come tgt to work on stuffs, work on theirs, or just have a discussion on what they’re working and just colliding ideas.

They have such co working meetups in other countries I’ve been to like in bkk. Just wondering if there are any here, and if not would anyone be keen tho?

Taking a sabbatical off from work

Has anyone taken one from work before? Looking at about a year and pending approval.

Kinda tired of work now. Been working all half my life.

Just wondering if there’s anything to consider. Sometimes have some anxiety over income and loss of income = lesser things I can do.

If you’ve taken one do share!

I’ve always have bad experiences with insurance agents ie got a ILP back then and my agent literally kept the funds in India money market fund for 10 years when US equities have 10x (2009 - 2019)

Closed the portfolio with a -600 loss.

Another one is I’ve got a claim for an accident that dragged 6months. It was only until I asked the agency that I found out he never submitted my receipt hence it was just stuck there.

I’m so done with insurance agents and as much as I can I wna try to disrupt their rice bowl with AI.

Insurance sales are mostly emotional pressuring sometimes and some don’t know what the heck they are talking and you’re paying a premium for these kind of service.

Why isn’t there like an ai service that does all that insurance agents do with objectivity and not sales tactics selling ppl what they don’t know if they want.

Any thought? For discussion to see if there’s rly a chance.

For context, I’m using llms reasoning models to try to interact with each other when a stimulus is injected. Very similar to what mirofish is doing but I’m modelling possible online sentiments and how it may be perceived by the public. Starting this project just for fun.

I’m just thinking what makes a human human?

LLM has reasoning abilities like us but arguably, our decisions and perceptions are shaped by our values and life experiences. Individually it’ll be very difficult to track hence I was looking for a macro classification of the population.

Here are the parameters im working with
Age
Occupation
Political affiliation / preferences
Social economic levels
Pro / anti establishments
Etc

Sometimes human bullshit our way thru so it’s very similar to how LLM hallucinate as well too right?

Getting mind blocked in this. Just seeking opinions!
