In my opinion, Pool will never be standardized and popularized because people are too obsessed with the gambling, leisure and drinking part when it comes to recreational pool (among other reasons)

I got interested in competitive pool when I went to visit family in Vietnam for the first time and was surprised by how skilled everyone was and clean it was presented. People over there play it as a regular sport and it’s sometimes taught in schools. Before going to Vietnam, my impression of pool is that only lowlifes and scammers who drink and gambled all night played pool (not saying that is a correct opinion but it is from a lay-person’s perspective) After coming back from Vietnam, I was fascinated with getting better and learning how to really play. Along the way, I have met a lot of great people but also a lot of bad ducks as well who only go to Pool Halls to get hammered, mess around and pressure you into gambling on a match. There’s really a 50/50 among the population that enjoys pool

I did research on Pool while I was in Vietnam and I learned about Matchroom Pool and how they’re trying to incorporate professionalism and standardization in pool. I thought it was great but it lacked a lot of attention and viewership.

Shane Van Boening was spoken in interviews and has argued that getting ride of back room money games could help bring corporate sponsors and legitimacy to pool. When he was younger, he was scarred when he played a money match and someone threw a cue ball at him when he lost.

Nowadays, due to social media a lot more niche sports have garnered public attention and even have had preconceived notions on the sport changed. (i.e Men’s Volleyball, Pickleball etc.) So my question to y’all is this. When do y’all think Professional Billiards will go through that?
