Canada’s IRCC (immigration body) sent these out to many applicants who applied for citizenship by descent

We’re not 100% sure why folks are getting these, but it seems like IRCC is becoming more strict on what documents applicants can use to prove their lineage.

CPC MP Brad Redekopp asked IRCC whether it had ever compared the cost of recruiting foreign students versus investing those same resources in Canadian students and skills training. The senior official couldn’t say. Heavy lobbying from universities influenced exemptions for graduate students.

Perhaps those with more wrinkled brains than myself can ELI5.

So I (a Canadian citizen) applied for a job, and my resume is retained. And then to my complete and utter shock (I am deffo not in any way, shape, or form shocked) due to the inability to find ANY suitable Canadian applicants (like me and countless others who probably applied) a LMIA is requested. Glad to see this program isn't being abused.

Globe editorial: Ottawa’s enduring problem of a surge in temporary workers

https://archive.is/udTZw

The federal Immigration Ministry is touting its progress in returning Canada’s temporary resident numbers to sustainable levels. However, recently released numbers paint a much different picture: the number of foreign nationals holding work permits is actually rising.

In fact, there are more now than in 2024, when the federal government announced it would tighten rules for hiring foreign workers. Unsurprisingly, this is contributing to the government’s slow progress toward its goal of reducing temporary residents to 5 per cent of the population.

Young Canadian goes to the parliamentary immigration committee and exposes how foreign labour is replacing Canadian graduates: “Canada’s skilled immigration policy should complement domestic talent pipelines, not replace them”

MUST WATCH: A witness tells MPs that illegal migrants and temporary foreign workers can sometimes be found on publicly funded projects. They pointed to reports of fake documents, credential fraud, identity misuse, and cash payments.

A witness says access to cheaper temporary foreign labour — including illegal migrants — can reduce pressure to raise wages and hire Canadians. He adds that contractors undercutting others by using lower-cost labour are more likely to win work.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner asks why Tim Hortons still has 80+ Temporary Foreign Worker job postings on the federal job bank despite saying the program is no longer necessary. The immigration minister did not answer directly, saying Canadians must be first in line for jobs.
