LDL 122 -> 52 after 6 weeks of Repatha

LDL 122 -> 52 after 6 weeks of Repatha

Recently started Repatha as my sole intervention for my high Lp(a) (175-220nmol) and LDL levels.

I already watch what I eat, bike ~100-150 miles a week, and am generally “fit”. Familial history of cholesterol and heart issues, doc said it’s time to do something at 30 years old after elevated levels for years.

Just did a 6 week check in and I can’t believe how much it dropped! This is crazy; I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I’m very pleased that Anthem covered Repatha as a first-line solution given my levels and familial history. I never had to touch a statin, and feel zero side effects on Repatha.

I really think FSD is regressing on the highway. Just finished a 14.3.6 roadtrip and just ended up using NoA for the first time in years

FSD is doing incredibly on surface streets and I have next to zero issues with it in heavy city traffic or just normal street driving. My issues with FSD is entirely highway based as of late.

I drive a lot from NYC to a collection of midwest and southern cities: Dayton, Knoxville, Indianapolis, Louisville, to name a few.

This weekend I did NYC <-> Charleston, WV with a bumper-camera Model Y.

Some of the issues that I experienced, in order of annoyance:

 • Randomly thought the speed limit was 45 pretty often and would aggressively slam the brakes to go from 70mph to 50-ish mph.
 • Hit the brakes and slowed down ~10mph every time I passed a sign that mentioned trucks under 50mph should stay in the right lane. It would do 72mph -> 60 mph -> floor it back to 72mph each time.
 • Clogged the left lane frequently, taking forever to pass the truck traveling at 70mph while I'm doing 70-71mph. It's constantly trying to pass in the Standard profile for no good reason. Side note: it keeps hitting the brakes while passing semi-trucks: stop it!!!!!
 • Cut off fast-approaching cars in the left lane to pass, slowly (like the issue above).
 • Waited until 0.1 mile left to cutover 3 lanes of traffic to take the exit it knew was coming for miles.

Honestly the biggest issue is that passing aggression and speed are tied together in these profiles. Chill goes too slow but it's passing aggression is perfect. Standard usually goes a decent speed but it's trying to pass every single car not going it's desired speed limit. It's incredibly annoying and definitely pisses those off around you.

Half of the annoyance is that each update has felt worse on the highway than the last, and it's always a game of "what else got borked this time". NoA just did a normal speed, and passed when I told it to. So much more comfortable, despite the less advanced lane centering.

All of these issues can be solved if Tesla just untied passing aggression from speed. They did it in Europe, where it's required, so I'm not sure why we're left with a less superior option in the states.

From a consumption PoV, is Sentry Mode "free" if you have Keep Accessory Power On, on?

I have a camping fridge in my car. If I have the keep accessory power on enabled, the car doesn't sleep. I presume the car's computer is also on. Does this mean turning sentry mode on is essentially free because the floor of power consumption is the car awake + computer (~200 watts or so)? Or is KAP some special mode capable of less power consumption than sentry mode?

iOS: How do I stop discord from rotating my camera, even when I have portrait lock enabled?

This started about a month ago, and it's super annoying. I walk with my phone on Discord a lot or lay it down on a table and the app keeps rotating my camera feed sideways. I'm on the latest version (340) on an iPhone 17 Pro. I have to keep perfectly holding my phone up for it to rotate back.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional, but please respect system settings. You're not rotating my UI, just the camera feed, which is somehow the worse of all options here.

Getting really tired of the jerky indecisiveness when the lane splits with 14.3

We're 7 builds into 14.3, how has this not yet been solved?

Are there any new doorbells on the horizon? G4 is old; G6 Entry isn't really it, either

Title; I'm in the market to replace my Google doorbell and I'd like to move entirely to Unifi as I already have moved my cameras over. I love the G6 Entry image quality, but the FOV is bad and it is obviously more of an entry/reader device for business than it is a standard home doorbell.

On the other hand, the G4 is getting old, with worse image quality, and it's bulkier (uglier?) than the G6 Entry.

I'd love a more residential model update at some point, curious where the rumors are?

Received refund from UPS; is this tariff refunds?

EDIT: after some research, this is in fact my tariff refund. I just didn’t remember how much in tariffs I paid. It matches my previous invoice, and further digging shows refunds are originating from UPS SCS GL for tariffs paid by credit card.

I paid about a $150 tariff last year to import something from Canada. I know UPS was processing some of the tariff refunds (the kind I was eligible for); but this is higher than my paid amount.

any ideas?

14.3.6: so much better speed management and passing logic; pretty bad UPL degradation

Oh man the highway issues I've been having are basically all solved. Standard is driving like a normal person again, not trying to pass everyone the moment they slow down 1mph. It's getting into the proper lanes at the right time (not too early, not too late), and overall much more enjoyable to use again.

HOWEVER, almost every unprotected left it's tried to make has been really bad. Both times it pulled into the intersection (great) but then turned too much into a lane, almost half-committing (bad). I'm sticking halfway into a lane of opposing traffic both times.

Bummer that we can never just take two steps forward. Always feels like it's one step forward, one step backward.

Also it's back to not "ending" FSD when it parks and just sits in reverse. I waited for 30 seconds to see if it would ever exit but I gave up at that point. Just worth a callout; not a huge issue.

Alternate routes broken on 14.3.6?

like the title says, I recently updated to 14.3.6 and noticed that alternate routes are no longer generating for me. I’ve tried a few times throughout the day and it’s not working.

Resolving Sacred Grove / Earth's Gift: free-for-all or turn-based?

Hi! Long time first time. I have a question around Sacred Grove, specifically Earth's Gift.

Historically, my friends and I have just done a free-for-all when that card arrives. Everyone just resolves it together at once and for years we never even thought about how you're supposed to play this card. Everyone just trashed and gained a card at the same time.

However, last night, we had an issue where two players wanted the last card left in a pile late-game. In this situation, what happens? I would've said whoever got it first wins, but is it actually supposed to be turn-based (i.e. clockwise/counterclockwise)?

Should we keep it FFA/simultaneous or is turn-based sequential rules correct? It matters because I feel like Dominion is already a game where a lot of us don't pay attention when it's not our turn (we play with 6 players or so), and increasing the amount of time to resolve a Boon would just take even longer, especially if people have to shuffle because of pulling The Sun's Gift, etc.

How do you do this IRL, any recommendations?

Really hate FSD’s reaction here with a pedestrian. They were already in the street and crossing.

14.3.4, standard mode

The family was already starting to cross, FSD got too close to the crossing that the mother stopped her children and waved me on out of safety. FSD started, stopped, started, then I hit the brakes.

14.3 as a whole has been giving less priority to pedestrians and I don’t like this direction. They should be getting priority at all points.

Actually using the Windshield Protection Plan is annoying & painful. Is this just my region (NYC/LI) or what?

I consider myself super unlucky with windshields. I maintain a pretty far back distance and don't drive behind work trucks but random stuff keeps parabolically chipping or cracking my windshield over the years.

I got the WPP because it seemed easy enough and it would stop 1nsurance claims (in NY, any claim, even glass, over $1000 is reported to CLUE and us3d against you in premiums—WPP is not 1nsurance so avoid CLUE reports).

However, the two times I've tried to use it over the year (once a large crack, another just a chip) has resulted in arguments with the service center. The first time, which was a large crack and needing replacement, they kept trying to charge me the $100 deductible despite the plan saying the first one within a calendar year is free. I had to argue as the service center manager kept saying they're required to charge $100 for every time they work on a windshield.

It took half a day of arguing after my car was completed that I didn't owe it and it was against the contract I signed with Tesla. They finally relented after I guess I just got annoying enough.

Today, I brought my car to a different service center for a chip repair and the same exact issue came up. They said "the system says it's $100 deductible for crack repair". I had to bring up the agreement paperwork, and Tesla's own website, to show that there's unlimited free chip repairs. A lot of back and fourth until the employee said "I'll goodwill it this time, but that's not what the system says".

What's going on? Why is this so difficult? I know I'm not reading the terms wrong. It just adds more annoyance to already dealing with poor Tesla service.

Was 14.3.5 pulled from 2026.20.6.6?

Release notes last night for me mentioned 14.3.5; but now they’re gone. I heard some folks were getting downgraded to 14.2.2.5

Spitz AX: Randomly disconnecting from Verizon for long periods of time

Hi all, I'm trying to diagnose this issue that's appeared within the last few months. I have a Spitz AX with a cloned IMEI of an iPad on my Verizon plan. It's worked beautifully for awhile, but lately it'll disconnect from Verizon and I'll just see "Connecting" and something along the lines of "Check APN settings if this takes too long". Sometimes, it'll come back within a few minutes, other times it can take 30-ish minutes.

During this time, I'm registered to Verizon. I have a strong signal. It's almost as if I connected to a tower that's rejecting my Spitz, but I'm not 100% sure. I set my TTL to 65, and use a VPN, everything's always showed up as normal usage on Verizon (not tether). About 10 months of the year I use 5GB or less, and for about 2 when I'm on the road heavy, I use about 30-50GB.

Any idea or where I should start poking to better understand this issue? The logs don't seem to say anything important modem-wise. My APN is VZWINTERNET.

Tesla needs to fix Standard mode, it's been broken since 14.2.2. It drives like Mad Max, doing 68 in a 50 and trying to pass everyone

CalDigit TS5 incredibly frustrating, constant disconnects and dropouts

I've been using CalDigit's for almost a decade now with the TS3, TS4, and recently the TS5. I do a lot of software engineering, photography/videography, and music production so I typically max out my docks with drives, cameras, MIDI stuff, etc. The TS3 and 4 have been powerhouses with zero issues for me.

I got a new MacBook and wanted to upgrade to the TS5 for the 140 watts delivery as I've noticed my new MBP is pulling 100+ watts during high load which would drain my battery on the TS4. I wanted a one cable solution, so I bought the TS5.

What's ensued has been two weeks of a constantly disconnecting dock, monitor arrangement constantly changing, and lots and lots of lost work hours. I can't plug any drives into the TS5 otherwise it'll dismount (even worse, it'll mount-unmount-mount-unmount etc etc within seconds—increasing the chance of data issues)

Support was unfortunately not super helpful and the settled plan was to just use an external charging brick. I tried everything: new cables, different ports, firmware updates, macOS updates, a fan, but nothing would stop this rapid disconnect-reconnect cycle if the laptop ever tried pulling the full 140 watts.

Super disappointing to see all the issues around this series and the lack of solutions. I'm day 2 into trying the iVanky FusionDock Max 2 and it's been working without issue. I can hear the fan noise at times, but it's nothing compared to the AC I sit right next to anyway.

Super annoying, because I really liked CalDigit but man this generation is a big stinker.

30M with genetic cholesterol issues: just started Repatha.

Here's to biweekly injections, forever! (or at least until Lp(a) drugs hit the market)

Growing up my parents have always mentioned their cholesterol issues on both sides. They've both been on statins since a young age, especially my dad. I've also always known I had elevated levels since high school, usually sitting in the 120-150LDL level and about 190-220 total.

Many PCPs, despite my informing them of cholesterol issues, have mentioned that it's not much to worry about. They never wanted to look further than that and kept telling me to work on my diet. My BMI is 21, and based on preferences alone I only eat chicken and mostly fish and beans. I work out 5-6 times a week, biking 20+ miles each time—I felt this was a pretty good lifestyle so I was surprised the solution was to go even further than this.

Because I had already hit my deductible for the year, I decided to go to a cardiologist and get a 2nd opinion. I learned that I have an Lp(a) of 180! No amount of dieting, exercise, etc. will fix my cholesterol issues. He recommended that, based on my family history, lifestyle, and current numbers that I should start medically intervening now as "all roads lead to heart disease at this point". He said I should start with Repatha if insurance covers it, otherwise 10mg of Rosuvastatin if not, and wait until the Lp(a) drugs hit the market in a couple of years to see what we should do later.

Thankfully Anthem covered it; I just injected myself for the first time today. I really hate needles so, I'm hoping exposure therapy does something about it.

I guess if there's a moral here; it's to be your own advocate. Many GPs/PCPs either aren't aware of Lp(a) or are interested enough to check it in a standard blood panel. And thanks to this sub for giving my the vocab to speak to my doctors in an informed way!
