Can someone explain JS Tape Recorder to me? (And one random question)

I was poking around my plugins to find a nice tape hiss to add to the first few quiet measures of a song, and found Tape Recorder S2. I love the hiss you get when you turn it up a bit. But I don't understand how this plugin effectively functions. I was expecting it to overlay/effect an audio file, but it just seems to be always on or off regardless of whether there's audio in the track it occupies. I don't want it for the whole song.

I also tried automating it with the bypass feature, but no effect.

(And my random question: is it possible to remove specific files from the recent projects drop down?)

Any help or suggestions, please!

Blackjack players who grumble about others' bad play are more annoying than players who don't know what they're doing

This is a bit niche, I admit. But anyone who has played blackjack at a casino knows there are those who insist you should "play optimally" or not play at all. And then they grumble about other players on their table when they don't play standard, ie, taking hits, standing, doubling down, or splitting when the "book" says not to.

The experienced players will try to claim that you change their odds or change the cards for them in a negative way. But they fail to truly understand the nature of odds, and that removing unknown cards from a shoe doesn't fundamentally change their expected outcome. It only changes things in a superficial way.

When it comes down to it, playing blackjack or any casino game should be done for the enjoyment factor. Unless you're cheating, you are taking on a negative expected value for every dollar you wager. The way others play will not effect your EV, and so it's silly to complain about others' decisions.

EDIT: This may not be an unpopular opinion among redditors, but it is a 100% unpopular opinion among casino-goers.

Fireworks in Newmarket tonight, wtf

Just wanted to rant about those 15 or so minutes of almost nonstop fireworks scaring my kid and pet. It's August 7th. What am I missing?

Anyone else in town hear them?

Non-pros and hobbyists, how many mics / preamps do you own? What's that ratio look like?

I've been recording my own music on and off for 14 years, and have slowly gathered gear over that time, like many of us do. I've bought more mics in that time than preamps. You can always buy a better or more specialized mic for whatever instrument. But preamps? I've had two for ten years now, and I'm wondering if im missing out on just varying things up like tone, color, warmth, transparency, etc that preamps can provide.

Anyway, my mics: 2 sm57, 2 sm81, 1 sm27, 1 sm7b, and 1 beesneez b67-269. Also, a set of small drum kit mics.

Preamps: FMR RNP, and a pre-73 MKII.

So what's your ratio of mics to preamps look like? Should I look at a differently performing preamp as my next piece of gear?

Who else's bun makes these honking noises at feeding time? (Turn up sound to hear)

She's turning 9 in September, and didn't always make these noises. Maybe it started a couple years ago. But I just think they're so cute. It's hard to capture the sound with my phone, but I tried.

Will speeding up audio by 2 BPM of a mostly finished mix affect the final mix down in some noticeable way?

So I recorded a sort of plodding, layered acoustic guitar/bass project with vocals (all me) that I've got most of down. It's OK, but it's just a *little* too slow at 130 BPM. On a whim, I sped up the audio to 132 and it sounded just right. I'm not a mixing pro, so I'm wondering if I can keep it as is or if that will create problems "under the hood," so to speak, when it comes for a final mixdown.

I like my takes and don't really want to redo the whole song. I have some decent vocal takes, but I could always redo those if that's where the alteration shows through. Or is the whole idea sort of amateurish? Thoughts appreciated.

Exploding AD drum instruments to individual tracks... volume issue

I have an Addictive Drums 2 track where I want to take all the pieces of the drum kit and move them to their own tracks. I followed the instructions from an online AD manual, and now have the original track with the midi, plus a bunch of routed tracks with the appropriate labels, kick, snare, etc. That was nice and easy.

However, the drums are now much, much louder than the original drum track. I assume I am doubling or trippling up on audio by having both the parent, individual instrument tracks, and a "master track" that AD created. I'd like to fix that, but I'm not great on routing.

In the past, when I've wanted to achieve the same effect, I duplicated the original midi track a bunch of times and just deleted out every instrument except one, for each instrument. Annoying, but at least I get that gets the volume right.

PSA: Windows paint- not for windows! (Make sure your kid product doesn't mislead you)

Mom was having her-time, hiking, so me and the 4 YO were just hanging around the house on Saturday. He asked to paint on the windows (like those markers we already have), and there were these new colorful tubes sitting on the table in a ziploc bag. I knew they had already been used to paint little clear plastic ornaments that were hanging on hooks on the sliding glass door. I briefly read what was written on them, and yup, they were indeed called "Window Paint."

"Sure buddy!" We had fun making stain glass windows.

Fast forward to later that afternoon, and the color had started to fade and look like shit. Wife gets home and says "what is that?" I explain, and she says "you know that stuff cures and hardens overnight, right? It's not supposed to come off." It had already spent hours in the sun...

So yeah, I spent most of his nap time scraping and scrubbing and peeling off this stuff before it had completely hardened. So ALWAYS make sure a kids product does what you think it does, names can be misleading.

TLDR: self titled "window paint" shouldn't necessarily be used on windows. Apparently its for window ornaments 🙃

Wife spotted this fan that could have been from the early 90's, but I couldn't get past her use of Gen Z newspeak

And she's a millennial too! I would have accepted "1993 called, they want their color pallet back."

So... when do we start picking our noses again?

I am still in my second week of recovery, 5 days out from having stents removed. I don't want to go digging in there too much, because obviously it's still healing and everything. But there are clearly a lot of boogers and stuff that I'd love to get out. I do a little picking around the outer nostril, but not too deep. I do saline sprays several times a day. Otherwise, I've just left it alone all stuffed up.

When did you feel comfortable picking out boogers and other crusty things?

What does "taking it easy" mean to you? (And how I stupidly went to work on day 2 of my recovery)

So I'm a bit embarrassed to say, I didn't do much research on recovery from my septoplasty/turbinate reduction surgery last Friday. I read the material the medical staff gave me, and knew I would have stents in my nose for a week. They told me to "take it easy, do no heavy lifting (like pick up my 4 year old), and no cardio."

I thought, got it. Take it easy. I have a managerial job that involves nothing more physical than walking around, and so I figured I would call out for my first shift and see how I felt after that. Well, my work didn't come through for me, and I dutifully ended up going under the caveat that I would "sit in the office until anyone needed me." Yeah, even doing that was a mistake. I was exhausted and miserable. I felt like I had a cold.

So my question is, what does "taking it easy" mean to you? Because to me, that doesn't mean lying in bed all day, it just means "don't get the heart rate up." That said, I've done plenty of lying around, too.
