buying a victus for the first time

in the recent sale, im buying 15-fb3185AX, but ive heard too many people complain about build and hinge issues, on the contrary theres a few people defending it aswell that they never encountered any problem. the specs are a steal tho. 24gb/1tb, rtx 5050/8gb.

concerned about build and hinge, but it shouldn't be a problem in new models right?

anyone who took a drop with an objectively good rank?

has there been anyone who took a drop at 99.9+ percentile or like under 2k rank in JA, aiming for top 3 digit ranks or 2 digit ranks? im in that same situation looking to take one, dont ask me the reasons and judgement free please ✌️

laptos for mnc?

going to mnc, im looking more into windows than macs since i heard it might not support every software, and that piracy is difficult on mac, what laptop would be good? would a dgpu be needed for cs related courses? ive heard that dgpu are needed for ai and ml tasks, but then people follow up on it that most of the ai/ml work would be done on the cloud so dgpu wont be needed. not much into gaming but i might run casual fps games or something like gta 5 on mid settings. a good integrated card would support all that ig. budget probably 80k-ish, flexible though. if a dgpu really is required then an rtx 4050 would be the standard i guess? mnc is not that computer intensive, but i plan to approach cs related work by myself aswell

should i go for gaming laptops (low battery life, so im wondering if sockets are easily available) or a thin business ultrabook?

also, should a laptop be bought before or after going to college? since there would be bbd or great indian festival sales in sept, student discounts etc.

roorkee mnc vs kanpur sds

round 1 results are out and i got roorkee mnc, and kanpur sds was above it. based on my rank and closing rank of sds im quite certain that i would get sds in further rounds. confused whether i should go for it or stick with roorkee mnc. placements look more or less the same (but i know that shouldn't be a big factor to consider), although it looks like quants and bigger firms dont visit sds. im wondering if one would be able to handle the curriculum since ive heard its pretty tough over there. looking up the curriculum of both roorkee mnc and kanpur sds doesn't help much either since i understand none of it, so not much idea of what id study there and whether id fare well in it, maintaing cgpa. i would say i liked jee math and did well in it but im aware that sds and mnc maths are very different from jee. any insights are appreciated.

iit bhu cse vs iit roorkee mnc

as the title says, confused between these two branches, im getting kgp mnc aswell but between kgp and roorkee mnc i narrowed it down to roorkee. although looking at recent placements of bhu cse im still wavering between r mnc and bhu cse, as they appear to be even higher than roorkee and kgp cse. any insight would be appreciated

iit kgp mnc?

confused between kgp mnc and roorkee mnc, couldn't find much placement data of either but kgp seems stronger in terms of placements, and i have been told things like kgp has a 60-40 math to computing ratio compared to 80-20 of roorkee, im decently good in mathematics and it was probably the most effortless during jee but im aware that i would be dealing with abstract mathematics during mnc and i dont know how id fare in it. roorkee has the additional factor of being close to my home but is that factor alone worth thinking about if kgp exceeds roorkee?

laptop for college

**LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**

* **Country**

india

* **Budget**

upto 75k inr, which is about $783

* **Are you open to refurbs/used options? **

maybe, preferably no

* **Screen size**

not sure but i think 15 to 16 inches

* **Weight limit**

any, just not hard to carry around

* **Purpose**

ill be using this for basically everything, but i want it to support me throughout college in my computer science degree at the very least, id also wanna use this for general purpose stuff including editing, entertainment and mediocre gaming.

* **Form factor**

standard regular laptop

* **Intended usage**

im not too sure about this since i havent played much of the pc games, although since i would be doing that during college id want a good graphic card and cpu, by searching around i found that rtx 4050 is good for the price and supports pretty much everything so maybe somewhere around that

* **Desired battery life**

it should last me in class, around 4 hours is fine but more is appreciated

* **Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life**

performance, battery, size, weight

* **Info/Requirements**

im hoping it lasts me throughout 5 years of college with no major issues in performance or build

drop for a top rank

this is not a post to brag, i just wanna get opinions of other people.

i had been in a star batch, had a rank of ~700 in mains (tons of silly mistakes) and expecting a 1k-ish in advanced based on my expected score, but the thing is that i had bombed both mains and advanced, and was hoping for a much better rank in them. basically the entire paper felt doable, all the questions/concepts were something i had seen before, but i panicked hard and messed up in every question. i wont be getting CSE in any of the top iits and MNC is offered only in a handful of iits, which were my main interests, mathematics and computers. other fields just aren't as interesting and i would not wish to spend 4 years pursuing a degree i have no inherent interest in. should i take a drop to prepare for a better rank and get my desired branch? one that could fetch me MNC or CSE in the top 5 iits? bombing the exam in the end seems like a waste of my 2 year preparation. i also regret winging everything and trusting my "natural intelligence" during the majority of my prep, but i believe i can do much better in advanced if i try harder. though im not sure if i should spend another year on this.would one year of prep and getting iitd cse be better than accepting what i have and grind harder during the 4 years of college? my family is hesitant on me taking a drop year aswell, but ill try to convince them
