For those unfamiliar with Flock, this is the company that partnered with police, homeowners’ associations, and various businesses to blanket much of the country with automatic license plate readers and thus roll out a mass vehicle surveillance network before most people understood what was going on. "

"In a statement released Thursday, sheriff’s officials said an internal audit found “improper and unlawful” use of agency database systems to monitor an individual.

The audit identified irregular activity tied to Detective Brandy Almany, who has been employed with the agency since 2019, the release said.

According to the sheriff’s office, a criminal investigation was opened the same day. Investigators allege Almany circumvented procedures and accessed databases including:

• CCIS (Comprehensive Case Information System)
• Flock Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR)
• DAVID (Driver and Vehicle Information Database)

Investigators said the information was sought in connection with the ex-wife of Almany’s husband, and that the searches were not tied to legitimate investigative work.

Officials also alleged Almany created electronic records that falsely indicated the searches were connected to valid sheriff’s office investigations, using unrelated case numbers and false justifications."

"A real-time crime center supervisor in metro Atlanta is accused of using her access to Flock Safety license plate reader data to track her domestic partner.

The Conyers Police Department announced Thursday that Paige Forte, a supervisor in the department’s Real-Time Crime Center, was under investigation for using access to the Flock system to track her partner’s car to see where he was."

"Amid debate over technology such as drones and Flock automated license plate readers, Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise signed a $174,999 pilot program contract, placing it $1 below the threshold requiring County Board review.

Wise said law enforcement chiefs in the county had worked on the proposed contract with Flock since fall 2025 and first brought it to the board in January.

Because the initial cost exceeded Wise’s contracting authority, he had been discussing with the County Board how to begin a pilot project.

“It became clear that national politics was weighing into the discussions regarding drones and license plate readers,” Wise said. “It became clear to me that the only way for this pilot to move forward with a test run was to work for a vendor to operate a contract that I could sign of under $175,000.”

The final contract came in at $174,999."

"Michigan City's Flock camera system could soon expand.

An ordinance is expected to be presented at Tuesday's Common Council meeting, requesting $300,000 from the city's Rainy Day fund be allocated to the equipment.

Michigan City's Mayor, Angie Deuitch, made the request earlier this month to expand and enhance the system."

Mayor wants to use the "Rainy Day" fund to spy on the people who voted them into office.

The company on Wednesday confirmed that it had removed all of its 13 license plate readers from city property.

He did not look at any other cameras in the entire 400-camera network that day.
