Daily Song #130: I Look in People’s Windows

Daily Song #130: I Look in People’s Windows

I look in people's windows like I'm some deranged weirdo…

This song scratches an itch I never know I had. I don’t come back to it very often but when it pops up on my shuffle I can’t help but sing along.

This song gives me a feeling of sadness and loneliness. I completely get the feeling of hoping to see someone by chance and being completely engrossed by it. Hoping that your eyes will catch and then who knows what will happen.

You had stopped and tilted your head I still ponder what it meant now

I feel like it’s a Joe song. Maybe at first she was having hopes of reconciliation. Who knows. I’m not a big paternity tester.

Favorite Lyrics:

A feather taken by the wind blowing, I'm afflicted by the not knowing so

I look in people's windows in case you're at their table. What if your eyes looked up and met mine one more time

Daily Song #128: The Life of a Showgirl

Her name was Kitty...

The Life of a Showgirl features Sabrina Carpenter and is track 12 from Taylor's 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl.

I find this song so fun to sing along to and I feel like it closed out the Showgirl era really well. I feel kind of like Taylor almost passed the "Showgirl" title onto Sabrina with this song so it really makes me wonder what TS13 will be like. It's also one of Taylor's duets that feels like a duet. I haven't really felt that since Exile. Sabrina has an actual verse and even gets the final word on the song/album.

You're sweeter than a peach but you don't know the life of a showgirl, babe...

I have noticed with this song that people once again have trouble with Taylor using the term bitch or bitches. I find it okay in this song because she's talking about people who actually wish her career would end or that she'd fade into obscurity. Taylor isn't about to do that, though. I'm curious how other feel about the use of "bitches" in The Life of a Showgirl versus Honey.

Favorite Lyrics:

They gave her the keys to this city then they said she didn't do it legitly

But you don't know the life of a showgirl, babe and you're never, ever gonna... Wait, the more you play, the more that you pay

She was a menace, the baby of the family in Lenox

Do you wanna take a skate on the ice inside my veins? They ripped me off like false lashes and then threw me away

Thank you for the lovely bouquet, now I make my money being pretty and witty

Daily Song #125: The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

And I don't miss what we had, but could someone give message to the smallest man who ever lived?

I don’t care this song goes hard. Taylor poured all of her soul, feelings, and fears into this song. I think she went into her fling with Matty giving her all while he didn’t and in the end that scared her. From the lyrics, and lyrics across TTPD in general, it seemed like Matty love bombed Taylor and that made it feel much more secure and real than it was.

Were you writing a book? Were you a sleeper cell spy? In fifty years, will all this be declassified?

It’s my belief that Taylor confided in Matty in many, many ways. After a six year relationship, she probably had a lot held inside that she maybe let out to the person she thought was more serious than he was. While this song goes hard it ultimately makes me sad as well. After lyrics regarding a six year relationship like and I'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free, it really had to suck jumping into another relationship you thought was secure only to be used again.

And I'll forget you, but I'll never forgive the smallest man who ever lived

Favorite Lyrics:

Was any of it true? Gazing at me starry-eyed in your Jehovah's Witness suit… Who the fuck was that guy?

And I don't even want you back, I just want to know if rusting my sparkling summer was the goal

You didn't measure up in any measure of a man

Cause it wasn't sexy once it wasn't forbidden

And you deserve prison, but you won't get time

You kicked out the stage lights but you're still performing
