Well, well, well. What a coincidence that this song came on today, of all days.

"Wood" is a song from Taylor's twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. I remember when the tracklist was revealed, whether it was before or during New Heights, I can't remember, but my immediate thought was, "What on earth are we getting with this album?!" Looking back, I'm pretty sure Jason had a similar reaction when he heard the title.

I think most of us assumed it would be a song about knocking on wood, but I don't think any Swiftie was prepared for the lyrics we actually got. One of my favorite things about Taylor as a songwriter this go around is how she managed to blend innuendo and superstition into one ridiculously clever song.

I don't think a lot of the fandom was ready for a song like this from Taylor. Or maybe it's still just because the muse is Travis. Not sure if those people have heard, but they're kind of getting married tomorrow...

Instead of taking the song for what it is, a playful, cheeky celebration of a relationship that has changed her life, people have absolutely torn it apart. I don't think it deserves that. It may not be one of her most lyrically dense songs or packed with poetic metaphors, but it accomplishes exactly what it set out to do. Taylor sounds relaxed, happy, and secure enough in this relationship to write a line like the one that opens this post. That says a lot.

Anyways, here's to these two crazy kids. I hope they have a lifetime of happiness together. After everything, it really does feel like they've both found the 1.
