If you could only bring one Volca to a deserted island…

My first impression: this thing is EXTREMELY HARD.

I knew what I was getting into — designing 6 separate sounds and building sequences from them — but wow… nope. I don’t even know enough about sound design to properly explain what’s happening yet lol.

The presets sound insanely cool though (especially near the end of the video).

I’m gonna keep studying the Volca Drum for a while, but yeah… I still can’t peel the screen sticker off yet. You already know what that means.

But honestly, if I could only bring one Volca to a deserted island, I think I’d choose the Volca Drum.
Why? Because even though it takes time to understand, it also feels like something you could explore forever once it finally clicks.

What about you guys?
Which Volca would you bring, and why?

Tried running Bass + Nubass together

Sorry for posting so much lately 😅
I’m just having way too much fun with these little machines, and honestly I really enjoy hearing everyone’s thoughts and reactions too.

Tried running the Volca Bass and Nubass together today.

Honestly I didn’t pay that much attention to matching the Nubass key perfectly… but somehow it still worked out pretty nicely?

Funny thing is, the Nubass stopped feeling like the “bass” and ended up acting more like a lead/top layer instead.

I’m still pretty new to synths, but I don’t think I see people doing double bass setups that often?

The Nubass doesn’t really come in properly until the second half, so sorry about that haha.

Maybe I’m slowly understanding why people end up buying too many synths.

Trying supermario stage2 subground BGM

Which prefer EDM or BREAK one?
I wanna play stage1 too, but a little take time I think:(

Is the Nubass insanely good or is it just me?

Mine arrived today, and the tube sound honestly feels amazing.

You can really hear the character once the resonance is high and you push the saturation and level a bit.
Honestly, I think it feels easier to use than the regular Volca Bass, and the sound naturally leans more toward acid which is super fun.

That said, the 3VCO setup on the Bass is still incredible too.
I’m still a beginner, but I feel like the Bass really shines for more ambient or mysterious stuff.

The problem is… my gear collection is starting to get out of control now 😅
I’m genuinely running out of space.

I almost sold my Bass, but decided to keep it for when I want to make more atmospheric sounds.

For the people who own both the Bass and the Nubass — how do you personally use them differently?

I may have gone too far into minimal techno

Please turn your phone volume all the way up before listening 😅I recorded this in the morning while trying not to wake up my family, so the audio is pretty quiet.

I’ve been messing around with these tiny gadgets lately and honestly I want more people to know about them (not sponsored, I swear lol).

They’re miniature synths made by Home Bake Instruments. They’re ridiculously small like you can see in the video (sorry the audio is a bit quiet), but they sound and behave like proper hardware synths.

I genuinely love them, but I’ll admit they do have flaws:
I really wish they were battery power like volcas.
The text on the units is WAY too small to read.
Those criticisms are absolutely fair 😅

Learning how hard live pattern changes actually are

Today I tried gradually adding drums little by little. I thought it was a pretty basic thing to do, but changing the steps every 4 bars while tweaking the bass at the same time was actually harder than I expected.

Also… sorry for posting every day lately 😅
I’m just having too much fun — not only making music, but Reddit itself too.

Makes me wonder… why did Reddit never really take off in Japan🤨

The Synths That Fits in Your Wallet

This tiny little thing that could probably fit in a wallet is so much fun that I haven’t touched my Volcas or TD-3 lately (´>∀<`)ゝ
Maybe I’m getting a little better?

Very tiny synths jam

Tried experimenting with lots of different sounds on the Acid Mint bass synth.
The tiny text on this thing definitely takes some getting used to haha.
I’m still figuring out the drum side too, but I managed to do some live arrangement tweaks while jamming.

There still aren’t many videos of this gear on YouTube, so I hope this can be useful for someone!

But honestly… this thing is dangerous for sleep.

Tiny synth, surprisingly huge acid sound

Finally got one today! 😄

I’m still just starting to learn it, but it’s already really fun so I wanted to share.

It’s tiny, but I was surprised how easily it can make proper acid sounds.

Also… somehow my nose breathing always gets recorded in these videos 😂Maybe I breathe too hard haha.

Does anyone else make better TD-3 patterns by accident?

Been messing around with the TD-3 and RD-6 lately.

Is it just me, or does the TD-3 make cooler patterns when you stop overthinking and just program random stuff? 😂

Made a little ambient? track :)

I’m starting to think the Volcas might actually be better suited for ambient than acid.

That said, really skilled people can still make them sound super sharp and wild in acid stuff too.
I’m still learning, but I think this phrase came out pretty nicely this time.

It kind of ended up with a vibe that reminds me of the Japanese band LUNA SEA… not sure if anyone here knows them.

P.S.
It’s 5AM here in Japan 😅
I was trying to keep the volume down not to wake up my family… so sorry if you can hear my nose breathing sometimes.

3VCO can get surprisingly huge

Like people here suggested, I tried giving each VCO a different melody — and honestly I was surprised how much depth and movement I could get out of a single track.
So this is my little progress report 😄

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice here!
The VCO2 bassline accidentally started sounding a bit like Nirvana somehow 🤣 Totally unintentional.

Tomorrow I’ll probably be messing around with the TD-3 again, so I might disappear back into the Behringer subreddit for a bit 😊

No Speakers. No Sync.No FX. Just Raw Sound.

The AGOGO sound kept getting too smaller when I ran everything through speakers, so this time I tried using only the built-in speakers.
I think it came out kinda cute. Honestly, I had way more fun with this setup than I expected!

Sorry for posting every day 😅

My brain froze halfway through 😵‍💫

Playing around with Volca Bass + Beats again today.
When the sequence doesn’t go the way I expected, my brain just freezes lol.
Do you guys actually memorize “okay, next is pattern 3, then 7, then 2…” and so on?
Isn’t that kind of exhausting? 😂
Can you pre-program the order of sequences somehow?

Finally!!figured out how to separate VCO3

I finally figured out how to make VCO3 independent.
Also… the manual is way too minimal sometimes 😅
Please explain more lol.

This time I think the cutoff tweaking near the end came out pretty nicely, so I wanted to share it!

Hope you enjoy 😊

Hi. from Japan:)

Hey everyone, nice to meet you all!
I’ve recently gotten really into techno. It’s kind of a niche genre in Japan, so I started using Reddit to connect with more people who are into it too.
I’m usually hanging around the KORG Volca subreddit, but today I picked up my TD-3 again for the first time in a while. Honestly, I think I still prefer the sound of the TD-3 over the Volca Bass.
I used to post little jam videos like this over in the Volca community — hope it’s cool if I occasionally share them here too!

Someone suggested “one kick, one bass” before, so I tried it.
I think it came out pretty good!
Hopefully no nose breathing got recorded this time:/

I tried to recreate Flim by ear!
It’s such an amazing track, so I tried not to ruin it :/
but The drums are way too delicate for me to replicate though — so it’s more just the vibe.
Still, it was really fun. My right hand was super busy since I was holding my phone in my left 😅
