Linus Tech Tips mentioned in recent CadeMedia video

Just thought i would post because Linus Tech Tips was mentioned in a recent video from the Cade Media cycling channel. Discusses how they handle sponsorships so that it doesnt interfere with their reviews. Linus is onky mentioned briefly about 45 seconds in.

Interesting to see different points of view in this case. Just wondering what other people think of this format and if its necessary to try and completely avoid taking mkney from brands that you are reviewing or if it's just enough to label which videos are sponsored as opposed to proper reviews and whether or not that creates too much confusion and questions.

New fall express routes

I was looking at what the frequency of the new express routes would be for September and it looks like many of the new routes like the 561, 562, and 563 seem to only run once per day.

Also, the timings make no sense. If you take the 562 in the morning, you get to Tunney's at 8:13 so even optimistically you get to work at 8:30. Then you would have to take the bus home from Tunney's again at 15:32, so you'd be at work less than 7 hours if you wanted to take this route back and forth to work.

Of the three west bound buses, the latest one leaves Tunney's at 16:06, well before many people are done work.

For me this is just academic because I don't plan to use these buses. I was just interested. But I'm wondering what other people think of this. They made a big song and dance about these new routes and now I'm really questioning how useful they are going to be.

You can check out the schedules using the Planner tool

Are these schedules accurate for the new express buses?

I got the new schedules for the new express routes by going on OC Transpo's website and manually adjusting the date in the URL to September when the buses are supposed to be running.

Are we really only getting one bus each way on some of these new routes? And the times don't make much sense. For instance, if you look at the 562, you would get to Tunney's at 8:13, optimistically might possibly be at work at 8:30, but then the same bus leaves Tunney's at 15:32 in the afternoon, so you are only at work for 7 hours and then you have to catch the bus back home.

Hopefully these are just temporary and they are actually running more frequently because I don't see how these buses make any sense. The morning times aren't too bad, but the last of the express buses headed west leave Tunney's at 16:06 before many people have finished their work day.

No Netflix, I don't want to play games

Can they just create an option to hide games completely? This is getting out of hand. My entire Netflix home screen is covered in games. Its bad enough that they keep recommending movies that they know I've seen already, but stop shoving games in my face. I'm never going to play them.

New I Mother Earth Release - Real or AI - Is it even their song?

I recently got a notification on a new release from I Mother Earth on Spotify which I though was super weird because they hadn't released anything in over a decade.

Listening to it, it doesn't sound anything like their previous music, and the cover looks AI generated.

But what really made me wonder is that the same song/album shows up on Deezer.

I can't figure out what's going on here. As first I thought someone hacked their Spotify account, but to see the same song on two different platforms makes me think that maybe it's real. Deezer has been known for doing a better job with AI music.

I can't post a link to the song on this sub apparently, but the song/album is Waiting For The Burn by I Mother Earth

LTT Store Organization

People will probably say I'm being too picky but this has been bothering me for a while. I don't like the way the categories are organized on LTT Store.

First, why are hats under "bags and accessories" an not "Apparel"?. Seems like a hat would most likely be looked for under Apparel than bags. Water bottles seems weird under Home and Decor, but that category just seems to be a random catch all for everything else.

Also, the general way the categories are set up is weird. When you go to Bags & Accessories - Backpacks, it says you're on "Home › Bags & Accessories › Backpacks" and when you go to Bags & Accessories - Bag Accessories it say you are on "Home › Bags & Accessories › Backpacks › Bag Accessories", but you don't actually see see the rain cover when you are on the backpacks category, even though it's theoretically a sub category.

If you go to Tools - Screwdrivers then you get both precision and full size screwdrivers. The Accessories category only has hats, so why is there even an accessories category, and why aren't the bag accessories under accessories? The Tools - Accessories category contains all kinds of tool accessories from cases to grip tape and also the actual precision screwdriver, but for some reason Screwdriver Grip Tape gets it's own "category" that just goes straight to the one product.

Also, while searching around I found This phone case which has units left, but that product isn't actually filed under one of the sub categories and you can only find it by browsing if you happen to click on Electronics at the top level which it seems like most people wouldn't do because they don't see a phone cases category when hovering and probably assume there aren't any phone cases. When you click on Electronics there's a whole bunch of products like ipod cases and phone cases and Killswitch cases, PTM 7950, DeltaHub Carpio, and Sticklocks that aren't available under any categories.

This doesn't really seem to be consistent for clicking on the top level categories. If you click on top level Bags & Accessories then you don't see any Hats and if you click on Home & Decor, then you don't get things like they lanyards which show up under keychains, the pins, giftcards, or stickers.

TLDR, Basically the site works really well if you know what you are looking for and do a search, but if you try to browse the categories to find stuff that you aren't aware of you'll probably miss a few products or get confused about where things are.

Video Idea: Can anybody build their own PC?

I had an idea for a video, inspired by as recent Reddit thread about some celebrity who built their own PC.

A lot of the comments were going back and forth on how hard it would be for someone without prior knowledge to build a PC from just parts. Some people were saying it's just like Lego or Ikea, while others are saying it's much more complicated because you don't just get a box with parts, you have to figure out which parts work together. And let's not forget we all know people who struggle with Ikea furniture and Lego.

It would be interesting to have a video like Secret Shopper, mixed with Linux Challenge type of series where someone is tasked with building a PC for a certain budget, without any prior exposure to building a PC. They wouldn't be allowed to just ask a friend who already knows everything, but they could use internet resources, but hopefully with minimal guidance, like PC Part Picker would be allowed if they didn't know about it before and happened to learn about it on their own.

Maybe have a few different people try to build a PC and see how the process goes. One person could walk into a shop like Canada Computers and get their input on it to help, another person could use PC Part Picker, and a third would have to figure it all out on their own with Google. See what they come up with and compare the different systems, talk about what troubles they had, etc.

Terrible quality on Indy 500

Why even bother offering a stream of the Indy 500 if the quality is going to be so low. Even at 720p, the quality just seems bad, like worse than when YouTube decides to default you to 480p.

How to actually prevent accidents, you don't need mass surveillance

Just for the Toyota/Flock camera system being discussed on the WAN show, I find it crazy that this is what they are proposing. Helsinki went an entire year with zero traffic deaths.

They didn't need to implement mass surveillance. They just needed to do things like lower speed limits, and upgrade the design of intersections and cross walks.

According to this article, they did have traffic deaths after that 12 month period, but they have still been able to have a huge drop in pedestrian and cyclist deaths over the past decade.

Does Linus even listen to his family?

If Linus had a nickel for every time he got something for his family that he thought they said they wanted, but then when he got it they said they never asked for it, he'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
