What don’t people like about Bloo

Curious for anyone who isn’t a fan of Bluecoats style; what is it that turns you off from the productions? I hear a lot of folks comment on them not playing full phrases. I’d argue that almost no one in the activity is playing phrases as long or as cohesive. The other argument is the technology. In my opinion Bloo has mastered technological integration, also not a very big point considering how many groups use tech, and some not very well.

Question about cheating

End of season 1. Was cheating this common for these high up wealthy guys? Or is the show just specifically focusing on these people who are cheater

EDIT: I’m not referring to hidden affairs that go on, I mean the open cheating that everyone knows about and encourages it for the most part.

Just started the show

I’ll be ignoring this post until I’m done with the show, but I’m three episodes in, just finished breaking band and better call Saul for the first time. I love a slow burn and think this might be a good bet, will it hold up through all the seasons?

Black family reunion parade

Participated in the BFR parade at the banks for the third consecutive year today. Does the general public know about this parade? It’s always on a Saturday but it seems like it’s always the emptiest I’ve ever seen the banks.

Maximus character

Light spoilers, Just finished season two and I’m a little confused about Maximus. We see this memory he has of the brotherhood, but after he’s defected and was about to kill the head of the brothers he’s still thinking about this memory for motivation. Wouldn’t he detest the brotherhood now that he’s been chewed up and spit out of it? Or am I looking to deep into this

Madison scouts!

WOW what a show. I have to admit, I’m a newer fan since 2017, was never very into a Madison show. But man this year was special. The had one of the biggest crowd reactions of the night. Decibel wise they were up there with the best. Cracked 100 a few times, but the raw sound of them felt bigger than Boston and scv. Great things to come for this group I hope

Innovation in Brass

Just some opinions here after finally seeing these shows in person.

Bluecoats: this show is absolutely oozing with the sauce. It’s astonishing how much more effective it is than the rest of the groups. For all you people claiming it’s not all that, or that there’s not enough playing or the mic stuff is overdone. You are clearly not watching the pitfalls these other groups are making.

Boston and scv: I’m really at a loss for these two. SCV sounds amazing, but there’s truly never anything happening that’s readable, the motif is great, but not as great as last year… and the year before that. Nothing in these two shows feels earned, which is my biggest disappointment. There’s so many moments that come out of no where, aren’t very clear on what’s going on, and don’t have any tension and release. There are so many moments where someone is up front going crazy but I hear nothing. There’s also times where the ensembles just is not doing a good job communicating these musical ideas. I don’t know if it’s the writing or the design of it all, but there’s multiple moments in bostons show where I’m not sure what I’m hearing, and not in an effective GE way.

Basically I’m saying that there’s so much talent happening, but these designs have got to get sorted out, there’s so much forced production going on, and it’s starting to trickle down to other groups. Moments where the visual has no meaning or tie in to the material, but hey we need a visual and we’ve seen x corps do this so let’s do that. What’s everyone’s takes on the current state of design and the cohesiveness that some groups are finally finding and others are starting to lose?

Goetta fest prices

Might be screaming into the void here but wow those food and drink prices are nuts at goetta fest. I get that it’s a small event and money needs to be made but an extra dollar for cheese and two extra dollars for goetta? Why would goetta not be included. Is this enforced by whoever runs these events or are these booths just run by greedy people with some cooking equipment?

Is boston too blurred

I’m wondering if Boston may have shot themselves in the foot in terms of design. There’s a lot of ripple effects in this show, visually and musically. So much so that sometimes I can’t tell if a particular visual is off by a beat or even half a beat, or if it’s just dirty in execution. Regardless there’s a ton of demand in this show, sorta feels like a jagged line situation to me with some more nuance. Super ambition show coming off a high year, maybe too ambitious? I’m hesitant to say so because the final result is still absolutely stunning

An Inside Look at our 2026 Music Design: Part 3

I love how these two connect all the crazy stuff directly to the show. I think something people get a little frustrated with is these big elaborate designs with ten videos that really just tell you the designer is a very creative person with a nice vocabulary. These videos tie everything directly to the show and justify everything. No corps has a terrible design, but plenty of designs have no justifications

But road trip coming up

BIG not but…Hey folks, I’m really not a car guy so to speak so forgive my ignorance. In November I’ll be driving a 2017 Chevy Malibu from Cincinnati to Ft. Lauderdale, and back a week later. What should I do to prepare my vehicle for this? The car has no real issues, maybe a brake pad replacement here or there, getting my Freon recharged tomorrow. But is there any inspection I should get? We’re going down for a cruise so I can’t risk anything more than a 5-6 hour stop on the way.

Just finished the show, kinda didn’t like it

Everyone told me to stick with it because the end of season five gets so good so here’s my thoughts on all these characters

Marcus: he finds out Lukas is leaving so he becomes the most unbelievably giant asshole to him. This guy was your mentor and then your friend, your gonna shit at him over raspberries?? wtf?? He backslides to an asshole version of himself that existed before we met him in S1, complete waste of one of the more intriguing characters. And as for the raspberries, why not get them yourself, why do you have to call a guy who you talk with like you’ve never met before. You’ve already made the candle caramel and the homage chocolate and the ice cream, but no, fuck my best friend over some raspberry. We also never really get an answer to his dad issues or anything for that matter, fuck you marcus, nothing more than a sad face to be sad “I’m actually on the way to the restaurant to practice on my day off” what a fake sentence from a fake man to his “friend” that he’s a cock to. Lame

Jimmy: who tf is the computer?? Whos this girl they’re with?? Why does Jimmy go from the big dick guy on the block to a complete pussy with nothing to do but lean on the computer. He said he still has a quarter of his money, and he’s a guy who knows how to make money, but he’s not doing that. He’s a man of empty words

Ibrahim: what the actual fuck is going on here. He’s unable to learn because he’s old and foreign, interesting enough, then he gets rob reiner (rip) to teach him how to make opportunity, and what’s he do with that opportunity?? No I’m asking, what the hell happened, where did Ibrahim go? He’s just off the face of the earth until he shows up in the finale to talk with these random jerkoffs about franchising the beef. I think this character was handled really poorly, I was very interested in how this guy who’s part of the Old Testament of the bear would fit in, turns out you can put him in a corner and ignore. You can also not give two shits when he DISSAPPEARS FOR A SEASON

Faks: this is about Neil, fuck that other clown, he provides nothing. I love matty matheson and his content, this is not that. This is the dumbest cartoon shit I’ve ever seen, I skipped a lot of scenes either him. He could’ve been a hilarious character but everyone interacts with him like he’s your friends dog, just weird. Marvel humor isn’t funny

Tina: one of the best characters in the show through season two, she starts as this hardass who has the weight of her world on her shoulders. Then she becomes an industry pro in a few weeks. From there we learn her backstory and then she’s always on the brink of crying, she also needs to be told things like turn the heat up or get your ingredients ready ahead of time, like shit I do in my kitchen as a non professional but I’m not crying all the time about it. She lost everything that made her interesting the second she became a pro in a few weeks. Did I mention she became a pro in a few weeks but needs to be told to turn the heat on and to prep things.

The girl from Ever: this character had an awesome introduction teaching Richie, but after that she exists so Richie can be less sad. Why does she go from a top level pro to women who helps sad guy? Can she exist without a guy to make happy? The show is telling me no. Love Olivia Coleman, this character is a nothing burger.

The dish depot: I can’t tell you these guys names, I think the writers forgot about them honestly. Tina was really good friends with them until the disappears for three and a half seasons. And where tf is Ibrahim??

Mamabear: I’m a firm believer that you instantly raise the floor of any show or movie when Jamie Lee Curtis entered the frame.

Some guy: he’s got a hat on, I thought he was the meat delivery service guy, but then in S4 and 5 he’s ALWAYS around. He’s somehow simultaneously in the restaurant serving AND running bs errands with Jimmy and computer and Frank? And some girl?? And he’s threatening to kill people every time he’s on screen. Again, marvel humor, who tf is this guy?? There’s another dude with a jumpsuit, he does the same stuff this guy does but his voice is funnier, that’s all I got.

Sugar: she kinda does nothing until she has a child and then is super hands on and reminding everyone that time exists, love her portrayal of sugar but man they gave her nothing to do but be in the way.

Gary: again, nothing for him to do. He must be a genius though because he mastered the art of wine in days, I don’t buy it, I also had to google his name.

Carmy: just a ball of unresolution, maybe that’s the point, but at the same time I’m not sure the show knows. They randomly decided he’s a fucking moron in season four and never looked back. He can’t speak when spoken to and he can’t count or communicate. The moment his issues come up with Syd at the end of season four he puts it on the back burner to have a conversation with Rickey about Mikey that we’ve heard over and over again. Like literally turns away from her and she’s not there anymore. At one point he’s asked about his relation to Jon Mulany and he says it’s hard to explain. How about he’s my cousins husband, but no, he can’t communicate. Carmy is the most unemployable maniac in this show, he can’t say two words without closing his eyes and freezing.

Richie: there’s some absolutely beautiful moments with Richie in this show, his eyes convey so much about his feelings and I will watch the actor in everything he’s in from now on. Too bad there’s like a season and a half of stagnation on either side of his growth. Growth which happens in days or weeks, and then he’s perfect at everything after being a jackoff for 35 years. He also throws one of the last two eggs at the ceiling as a joke when they desperately need one egg. Idk if this was one more attempt at some more marvel level humor but man this sucked. No one cares about all of this more than Richie, no one feels this pressure to make it work more than Richie and we’re WASTING FOOD WHEN THERES NO FOOD LEFT??? WHAAAAT??? Carmy literally just had a conniption over water lamb and now it’s funny to waste food it’s soooo funny.

Syd: syd is a fantastic cook and a real fucking jackass of a chef. She doesn’t communicate with anyone but blames everyone for not communicating, she talked down to everyone in the kitchen and has such a fucking attitude about every answer she gives. All she wants is to have the power here and when she gets it she folds. I was so interested in her character early on but it seemed more important for her to be funny and stupid. Even when her and Carmy are screaming at each other about communicating and the Carmy starts talking to Richie about something else she decides to be funny and try to smoke over and over again. wtf?? She never takes things serious and we character is so forced in some of these situations.

TLDR: so much stagnation, everyone grew an unbelievable amount in S2, and then either stagnated or backslid for the rest of the show. I loved this shoot for the first two and a half seasons but it seemed like the writers gave up on it all so it could be faster and funnier. Maybe Carmy should’ve exploded in season four so the group could band together over his loss.

Giving up

I’m 3 episodes into season five and I think I’m good on this one. I haven’t been interested in this show since maybe the first couple episodes of S3. Since then the show has had a broken rudder. Carmy is so upset and can’t fix it and in his big argument with syd at the beginning of S5 it gets out on the back burner to talk to Richie. This show is so unsatisfying and unrealistic. And now that syds in charge she’s acting like Carmy is making decisions that don’t make sense or aren’t his to make. He’s still the pioneer of the restaurant and the most experienced, he’s not just some dumb side character. Syds been waiting five seasons to take charge and she’s just now deciding to act like she did as a stag (spelling?) again. And why does sugar only seem to actually care now that the place is going down the drain. Ibrahem went from the general of the sandwich area to his old useless wacko self. Why did I just watch five seasons for everyone to grow in five episodes and then take 3 seasons to backslide??

Bring back Bluecoats Double A

I wish they kept in the double A toward the end of the show. That soloist was absolutely crushing it. Probably a dreadful moment though

Fairs?

Does cinci or the greater cinci area have any good fairs? Not just some food and a cover band. I’m talking loads of vendors and maybe some rides. Anything like the state fair

Small rant/vent

Teacher of 3 years here. Worked at a program that’s not my current one for weeks (I’m currently part time with no room to grow at my program), went far above and beyond what I was asked to do while filling in for a while at this new place. interview finally came around, it went as great as an interview could go and I didn’t get the job. Just starting to get sick of the work not mattering as much as who you’re friends with. Probably going to give up on teaching in a year or so if I can find other work. That’s all

Cyclopse was real

Can someone explain how the Cyclops puppet was used? I’ve seen the image of it clearing showing it as a rigged up massive puppet, but in the movie I’m looking at a perfectly fluid computer generated monster. I get that the wire can be edited out but the joints are clearly clunky in real life
