Christmas in July movies actually set in July.

I wish they would do a Christmas in July movie actually set in July instead of pretending it is Christmas time. They could do a number of different plots in which this works - perhaps someone is moving to Australia so they wanted to experience Christmas when it is warm to see what it is like…or maybe someone is being deployed for 6 months and will miss Christmas so they have to celebrate it in July. Just set it in the month of July and make it a real Christmas in July movie :)

Christmas Under Construction.

Yeeesh. This was bad. I love the two lead actors, but this was pretty unwatchable. She was emotionally cheating on her fiancée and was pretty inappropriate. I kept thinking if the sexes were reversed we would not be rooting for him like we were supposed to do for the female lead.
They also did zero renovation except paint a wall that never showed up again. The big reveal at the end was laughable bad. The premise of therapy and renovation is a good idea though, just wish they executed it a bit better.

Why the media loves posting everytime there is a norovirus outbreak?

Is it because bad news gets more clicks and views? I just don’t understand it? Anytime there is a noro outbreak every media writes the same lazy story about it. They never write that hotels and airplanes and Walmarts don’t need to report this information and that cruises are held to a higher standard of reporting. Or that 99% of cruises do not have an outbreak. The worst is also the troll commenters who have to be proud to say “floating Petri dish” faster than anyone else and feeling so original and proud of that comment. The jealousy of the commenters makes me annoyed. They so wish they could be traveling on a cruise but they are so jealous of those that do enjoy life they just love those lazy posts.

Retired...at least from my full time job. Are there good part time jobs?

Feels good to be done with my federal government job - made it to retirement age so feel lucky to have a pension and healthcare now...but still need spending money. What part time jobs have you all done or are doing that you might recommend. Was thinking theme park worker? Don't want fast food or Uber-like person.

Thing of Wegovy pill

I know the pill is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning...I am wondering if the following is ok...

My schedule for work and life is that I work evenings/nights. If I take my other meds with some water, and a coffee around 10 AM - no other food in my stomach from around 3 AM to then 4 PM when I eat dinner. I usually eat meals around 4 PM and 2 AM. Would my stomach be empty enough for the pill to be effective around 3 PM?

That would be no food for about 13 hours, and only small amounts of liquids - water/coffee with none for about 5 hours. The pill is half the price of the injection so I want to be able to use it, but also want it to be effective.

Masters of the Universe

Saw a special preview of the movie last night and it was freaking awesome. Just the right amount of camp, humor and adventure. Plus great nods to the original series - I won’t spoil the cameos. As a young man growing up watching and loving the cartoon, I am very happy they did this right!
Edit - stay for the ending credits. There are 2. One early with a cameo which is awesome and the 2nd mid credits which is awesome.

Why are conservatives fixated on Pride month?

I am a gay conservative. Fought for gay rights and happy to see what we have accomplished in the past few decades. I like Pride, but I stopped going for the last few years or so as I kind of aged out of the demographic and I feel that gay rights have become so normalized we don’t need a Pride month anymore.

Now that there has been a reversal of sorts in gay rights and more openness to being homophobic in some circles I feel that Pride month may be germane again.

I notice very few corporations openly supporting gay causes and the ones that do are subtle. Yet, the amount of outrage that some conservatives show towards this month is a little unhinged. I don’t get it. It’s just Pride month. A month to show Pride in being who you are and who you love. Isn’t that a good thing? Why denigrate that or try to take that away? And why are some conservatives fixated on this month when it affects such a small percentage of the population?

Dealing with husband with depression

Married almost 20 years. He has been stable for almost the entire time, but the last 6 months have been awful. Anxiety, depression, silence, even binging and purging. Anything I say is the wrong thing. I can’t stand the silent treatment at dinner but then at night he will cry and say how sad he is. I just retired in December and so sad I can’t enjoy this time, instead I am taking care of him. Then I feel guilty because he is going thru this and I am not. I just am losing it and don’t know where to turn. Thanks for listening to my vent.

Please suggest a book about Covid

Looking for books that go over the timeline of Covid and government's response across the globe. They can be pro-government or anti-government. Interested in seeing and reviewing them now that we are 6 years out. Thanks.

Is it OK to change a cat's name?

We just adopted a cat from the local shelter. Her name was Miss Sparkly Pants...she is 3 years old and a beautiful black short haired cat. My husband and I have renamed her Toonces. Our neighbor said we shouldn't have renamed her, but so far we have not seen any problems with it. She responds to our voices (probably not the name), eating well, drinking and playing. We have had her two weeks so far. Was this wrong of us to rename her to something we felt more comfortable with?

Swimming naked in high school gym class

Ok, weird memory unlocked…was talking about high school gym class last night with my neighbor. We had to take swimming one marking period and it required the boys to strip down in the locker room, walk thru the showers, up the stairs naked and then get handed a swimsuit by the teacher. We then put that on for class…if we were late then the teacher made you swim naked as he was busy with teaching and not handing out suits.

After class, we had to strip off the suits and hand them to the teacher, go back thru the showers and change and hope the other gym students didn’t finish their lessons yet so they would see us naked. It was traumatic back then but I kind of blocked out that memory for a while or just thought of it as normal.

My friend thought I was crazy and there is no way a school would have the students be naked - either for a short time while handling the swimsuits or even swim the whole class naked. I swear it is true though…or am I remembering some past life trauma?

Has anyone else experienced this in high school?
Edit - I graduated in 1990, so this would have been 1998 I think - 10th grade.
Edit 2 - this is probably why I wear long shorts and swim shirt now at the pool :) I just expose my face and feet :)

Yes, you need to fight the small things

I get tired of Maher stating to pick your battles with Trump. For example he says not to worry about the ballroom but fight bigger issues. He is totally wrong about this. By letting him get away with small issue after small issue it only allows Trump to gain strength and get the bigger issues passed. You NEED to fight the small issues to prevent the bigger issues from becoming a possibility. It’s like crime, allowing petty crimes to be OK just makes criminals try for bigger crimes since they were able to get away with all the small ones.
