I have a colposcopy tomorrow

I’ve not really been given a lot of information on what this procedure is or what they do. I’ve been told to take painkillers before coming in.

I’m 21. Very nervous about doing it.

Update: I don’t answer private messages please don’t send me any. Happy to answer questions on here. I’m having it because of irregular bleeding outside of menstruation. When my doctor checked my cervix she saw a mass but was unsure about what it was.

Eyedrops

Here to rant because eyedrops literally enrage me. I recently got diagnosed with dry eyes and have been trying to put in hycosan drops but I cannot do it. I miss my eye completely, poke myself in the eye with the bottle, contaminate the nozzle with my eye or lashes or miss the pocket when I’ve pulled my bottom lash line down. I feel an eye infection incoming with how cack handed I do eyedrops.

What makes it even worse is I’m literally an optom student so in theory I should know how to do this. Fine to put drops in other peoples eyes but my own? Nah.

Advice would be appreciated.

I never got my appetite back after my colonoscopy

This is not to deter anyone away from getting a colonoscopy. This is my own personal account, so please have a colonoscopy if your doctor has recommended it to you.

With that being said. I had my colonoscopy in February. It’s now August. My appetite never returned and I now struggle with regurgitation from reflux and early fullness. My hunger cues are whack. It takes about 6 or 7 hours for me to feel even a bit hungry. Maybe even longer if I’ve had a ‘bigger’ meal at lunch. I have to eat children’s portions when I dine out now which I rarely finish. And I’ve dropped a huge amount of weight which hasn’t returned post colonoscopy.

These are things I never had before my colonoscopy. My prep went okay. I was lucky enough to only need the bathroom like 3 times. I have some nausea and lightheadedness. My actual colonoscopy went fine too. Nothing was found. Although the whole experience of my colonoscopy was extremely painful????

Anyway, I’ve seen some other people on here say their appetite also never came back or was the same as it was before. Anyone else also experience this?

Menstruation and functional dyspepsia

Does anyone else feel like they feel a bit more hungry or can eat a little more when on their period? The hormonal shift during menstruation works well for my appetite….sucks that periods causes cramping at the same time.

Restarting ballet, but I’m underweight

Hi everyone. I was looking for some advice on whether it is a good idea for me to start strength training or what I needed to do to be in a better position to start.

As the title suggests I used to do ballet but I quit 7 years ago. I started ballet when I was 3, so have built up flexibility and strength throughout childhood and have never stepped foot in a gym.

Throughout these 7 years I have had gastric problems and issues surrounding eating and maintaining weight. I am underweight and as a result of not exercising or eating the calories I need, I have lost my strength and flexibility. Still, I am working on these issues through the help of my dietician. These days I eat around 1,500 calories a day and drink 1litre a day.

My situations not ideal I understand, but I miss dancing. I want to be able to build the strength that is needed when you are flexible too and to hold positions in ballet such as arabesque. I also just want to have a bit more control over my body in general. I feel limp and I hate it.

I can’t afford a personal trainer I’m broke.

Update: my problem isn’t what I eat. I have a good range of protein, fibre, carbs ect despite being gf and df. It’s how much I eat. I feel full early.

Getting published as an undergrad student? Worth it?

Hi all. My degree is healthcare science in ophthalmology, but I would like to go on to do a PhD on a neuro-ophthalmology subject. However, my course is mainly ophthalmology and doesn’t cover much of neuroscience. I’m aware I will probably have to do a masters to cover the neuroscience base, however I wonder if it will be helpful for future applications if I could get published by doing literature reviews. Obviously my own research would be even better, but to be honest I don’t have the time to conduct lab or public research separate to my course. My dissertation includes a research study anyway.

I welcome any advice from students even if you’re not doing something medical.

Mirtazapine for IBS, functional dyspepsia or other GI conditions?

Hellooooo, I just wanted to see how other people found their experience when taking mirtazapine for GI related symptoms?

I’m 22F. The primary reason for me taking mirtazapine is for emetophobia surrounding food or illness and early fullness. However I do have IBS-M. Without being too graphic I start off constipated and then have diarrhoea. I also have painful gas buildup and have tried every diet going.

Functional dyspepsia is also an option because I have slower stomach emptying which makes me feel fuller for longer.

I know mirtazapine can cause side effects of either diarrhoea or constipation. I was also wondering if any of you with GI conditions felt these side effects whilst taking mirtazapine and whether mirt has made your condition better or worse.

Advice for starting fitness when underweight? Good idea or no?

Hi everyone. I’m 22F and underweight with low muscle mass and low body fat. I’ve been prescribed mirtazapine to help with weight and low intake.

I was wondering if the mirtazapine was successful and I was starting to have a decent intake, would the gym be a good idea? I don’t mean to hardcore build muscle, just for strength and endurance. As I said, I’m very lean and have not much muscle mass. Being underweight has made me feel weak and like I haven’t much control over my body. I also hoped to slow down how quickly mirtazapine can make you put on weight.

I’ve never been to the gym before, but I used to be a ballet dancer. I stopped about 7 years ago. I’ve lost most of my flexibility and strength in my legs / ankles. I hope someday I can build the strength to go back into dance.

Also, I have iron anaemia (have had iron anaemia even way before eating problems) and have injections for b12.

I know this thread is a bit vague, I’m happy to answer questions about my diet, weight ect.

Advice for my cervical ectropion please

Hi everyone. I’m female, 21 and have been on the combined pill for 8 years and have had no issues until about the past year. I now have frequent bleeding between periods, so had a cervical check (they said I’m too young for Pap smear in UK) and they found a patch of cervical ectropion. They advised me to adjust my combined pill to go from 21 days then break to 3 months and break.

That was 3 weeks ago. They advised if bleeding is still a problem to contact my GP for a referral to gyne. I have an appointment with my GP, but the best they could do is for a month’s time. I have spotted / bleeding for 4 weeks now. There is not a day I haven’t bled and if it looks like it’s cleared it just comes right back. I haven’t had sex it just does it on its own and lowkey at the end of my tether with bleeding all the time. Even before these 4 weeks I spot more days than I have dry days. What can I do in the meantime whilst I wait for the GP?

Also this is costing me a crap ton in pads.

[TP] Midna Cosplay - first cosplay would appreciate any advice

Hi everyone. I’ve never cosplayed before but wanted to for an event. My character is Midna (humanoid ver) from Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, so the character is a bit niche. I have no experience with making clothes or jewellery myself, so wanted to know where to best place to look for her clothes or headpiece would be. Or any advice on how I could make her headpiece myself.

Mirtazapine for emetophobia and OCD?

Hi everyone, I wanted to know how others got along with mirtazapine and what your experience was like. I’ll try briefly explain my situation, but all experiences and situations are appreciated.

I’m 21 years old and have been struggling with emetophobia and OCD surrounding food. I’m very nervous about things that could potentially make me sick. I also struggle with early fullness, as I worry that eating too much will make me vomit / nauseous. Same with drinking.

I had tried sertraline but had a bad experience with vomiting, so my clinician is trying me with a non SSRI. The idea is that mirtazapine (15mg) will make me hungry and help with the OCD. I know mirtazapine can be very sedating, but I already sleep well and concerned about potential insomnia when I get used or taper off these antidepressants.

Metazapine for emetophobia and OCD?

Hi, I just wanted to see how other people reacted to Mirtazapine. I’ll try to explain my situation.

I’m female, 21. I tried sertraline but just kept vomiting on sertraline, so my clinician made the swap to a non SSRI which was Mirtazapine (15mg). I have emetophobia and OCD and struggle with early satiety because of my anxieties. The idea was to take Mirtazapine in hopes it would combat the anxiety, OCD and help with appetite. My clinician also said it has anti nausea properties, but I am still really nervous about taking these due to experience with sertraline and my emetophobia. I know Mirtazapine is mainly used for MDD and has strong sedation. I already sleep like an absolute log and normally take naps in the day.

I would appreciate to hear everybody’s experiences on Mirtazapine, even if your reasons for taking it are unrelated to mine and if anybody has taken it for emetophobia.
