I don’t favor telling people all about the PTS without a disclaimer. For example, I don’t want to know anything about it, so I haven’t watched the various YouTube videos on it.
However, I always use PTS whenever something new is dropped. So, I check it out at my own speed - I want to find out for myself.

But - I immediately got SnowRunner vibes from the environment and feel of the map. Anyone else get that?

Infographics on YouTube is reporting that Steam games are natively supported on this version of Linux. It is meant to resemble SteamOS very closely.

I have a good gaming rig but I am fed up with Microsoft. I would like to switch to Linux, but I have questions.

1. Are Nvidia drivers existing for this? If I change, will my PC even run correctly? It is a factory-built gaming rig, and I upgraded the GPU to an RTX 4090. I play only Steam games on it.

2. What kind of problems have others run into when making such a big change? I am computer-savvy but I stopped building them decades ago and have no desire to spend full-time hours trying to troubleshoot.

Any comments are welcomed.

Latest Beta release

Most things work pretty well, but the Notes app is useless on this machine now. I'm not complaining - it is Beta - but I am wondering if others have the same problem. The behavior is like this:

• I can compose a Note, and it will show up on my other devices immediately. When reading Notes composed on other devices, there is a delay of 4 days. In other words, it is Aug 13 but I am seeing only activity up to August 9. Missing four days worth of edits and new Notes.
• I use Notes a lot. I used Evernote when I had Windows PCs for work, but I work for myself now and am deep into the Apple ecosystem. iPhone Air, iPad Pro, Mac Mini for editing videos with FCP, MacBook Pro for Logic Pro, this MacBook Air for emails and stuff, and one M4 iMac that is quarantined with a novel virus that nobody seems to know anything about. But I digress.

I reported the problem with Notes not syncing on a MacOS Apple report-page thing. Questions:

• Does anyone else see this problem?
• Is it related to certain computer types, like laptop vs iMac or Mini?
• Is there an Apple site to provide feedback on Golden Gate?

To prevent huge libraries, I keep media files in place on an SSD. This works fine for my work flow.

FCP seems to use volume and path attributes when retrieving media files. Is there a way to tell FCP to use a different path to those media files? ...for a particular project?

For example: I copy the project media files to the new location on the SSD. Then I tell FCP to change where it looks for them: same Volume, different folder.

Is this possible? Can I do it without consolidating media files first?

I have company stock from when I was employed; and my account is with Morgan Stanley. There is a cash value in the account. I would like to transfer the cash to my bank account.

This does not involve selling stock; just withdrawing from the cash value.

What kind of income tax penalties would I incur?

disclaimer - I am something less than knowledgeable about investing. I don't put my own cash into the market. This account is strictly from working for the same company for 17 years and being granted stock options.

Do I read correctly that with the 7.1 drop you can make new maps, like is possible in SnowRunner?
SR veterans might remember Remoh667. The guy made really excellent maps that added a lot of play to SnowRunner. Be cool if he made some for RC.

I have a a large library - 3 TB - and media stays external in the original locations. Both are on a 4TB SSD. Obviously I needed a larger SSD so I have an 8TB U34 BOLT that is ready to use.

How do I tell FCP to find its library and the media files in the new location?

Remember that the media files remain in place and are not included in the Library file.

I have just one library at this point. I will archive it when I am finished publishing the videos in it.
