Got the Xiaomi S Mini Led 75 inch
Got it for 95k with extended warranty for 3 years. This is for my parents house. I personally use a Sony Bravia 7. My experience on this TV with the Apple TV 4K and HomePod in home theater mode has been phenomenal so far(3 days is all I could stay at my parents). With an ATV 4k you can completely overrides the reddish tones and oversaturated color after color balancing it.
I have set the Apple TV to 4K SDR and turned on match dynamic range and match refresh rate so Dolby vision and HDR 10 are automatically turned on when the content is available in said formats. Color are crisp and natural after calibration with an iPhone, sound is amazing as HomePods bypass the average TV speakers. The TV hits between 700-927 nits in SDR content. In hdr it goes all the way to 1167 nits as advertised up to 1200 nits.
Something’s I had to turn change:
Display:
ACR
Automatic light detection .
Volume level (sound check).
Turn down brightness & contrast to 50, keep backlight at 100.
Auto dimming based on background light.
Automatic scene recognition.
Local dimming set to strong, this give more blacker blacks.
Sound:
Volume enhancer
Turn on enhanced HDMI connection for ATV
Turn on eARC
DAC 4 enhancer for Dolby Amos (off as ATV control it via HomePod)
Compared to my Sony Bravia 7 (XR70), this is a close match ONLY AFTER TUNING. They have similar wake times after the ATV sends the turn on signal. The Xiaomi beats it by a second sometimes. Sony takes close to 5 seconds to initialize and wake up, while Xiaomi is near instant or 2 seconds.
The stock speakers on the Sony are better than those on the Xiaomi, so is the image processing and color accuracy but this can be overridden on the Xiaomi by the Apple TV. The Sony is way brighter and has darker black because more zones but again that’s also exhausting expensive.
The UI and OS on Xiaomi straight up sucks. If you don’t use a streaming box you will not enjoy the experience especially when streaming something that’s high bit rate. The Xiaomi also doesn’t come with a high bandwidth hdmi cable, in fact, there is no cable. Sony does give one which is actually nice and thick.
With the Xbox, it doesn’t have VRR and is 60hz so just stick to casual gaming. The color and tuning is thrown out of the window as the ATV can’t control it. So get ready for over saturating color, and reddish skin tones. You’ll have to tune the TV color manually here. I set the color temperature to cool but it nowhere near the tuning which the Apple TV does.
Now for serviceability and installation. Once Vijay sales delivered the TV, I called them and the Xiaomi guys came to install it on the same day. Apparently there’s a repair center close to my parents house (Thane W, Mumbai), the repair parts are widely available in the warehouse and same day repair can be expected, this is the Xiaomi guys word so take it with a grain of salt. The last time my Sony took a shit I had to throw 40k for the fried IC on the motherboard( I didn’t get extended warranty). Repairs took 17 days at my house(bandra w, Mumbai), they took the broken parts as agreed. So yeah just get an extended warranty plan on whatever you buy nowadays, they really don’t build them like they used to.
All in all, it’s worth the money if you can throw a few bucks while ignoring the stock UI and color tuning. The hardware alone is worth it if you already have a streaming box like a google tv or Apple TV.
##Also an FYI, no amount of videos you watch from YT will give you the experience of an in person visit at the TV seller. Go check out the TV you want physically, don’t believe reviewers unless you are sure they aren’t sponsored. In stores, insist to the salesman on getting you the TV remote so you can change the settings to your liking cause they keep the TVs on store mode which blast brightness to the max.##
