is it realistic to hope for work as an undergrad for graphic design job postings

Been trying to apply for job postings on indeed and job street for the past 2 months and honestly ive only gotten like 2-3 responses out of all the 50+ applications ive submitted. Soo crazy im starting to lose hope and have been wondering if its because i havent graduated college yet thats why no ones hiring me. Or maybe somethings wrong with my cv that needs a bit if tweaking.

Would like to reach out here in hopes of finding people that have had the same experience as me. Thank youu

Got a job offer, negotiated salary, got rejected. Was I wrong?

Hi fellow designers! I recently went through a hiring process that left me with a lot of questions, and I'd genuinely appreciate some outside perspective.

I applied for a Graphic Designer position at a company here in our city. The process went smoothly — I got through all the interviews including a final one with the President. They extended a job offer with ₱20,000 basic salary, Monday to Saturday, 8 hours a day (onsite).

After receiving the official job description, I took time to carefully review the full scope of the role which included:

  • Graphic design across 8 different businesses (finance, hospitality, food, property, retail, and more)
  • Managing 9 platforms — 6 Facebook pages, 1 Instagram, 1 TikTok, 1 YouTube
  • Daily social media posts across all platforms
  • Video editing and video shooting
  • Marketing planning and strategy
  • Occasional UI/UX and frontend development
  • 6 days a week, 48 hours a week
  • Using personal equipment

For context, I graduated last year with a BS in Computer Science, completed internships in UI/UX, and built a portfolio of real projects with measurable results. I also created sample graphic designs tailored to their company during the application process to demonstrate my skills, they seemed to appreciate it, which I believe contributed to getting the offer in the first place.

I sent a polite email to HR expressing continued interest in the role, while respectfully asking if there was room to discuss the compensation given the scope, proposing ₱25,000+.

They responded by withdrawing the offer, citing a mismatch between salary expectations and experience level.

I'm not here to vent or blame anyone, I understand that companies have budgets and constraints. I'm genuinely asking: was my negotiation approach wrong? Was ₱25,000+ too much to ask given the scope and my background? Should I have handled it differently?

Would love to hear from people who've been in similar situations. What would you have done?

Best iPad for Basic Illustrations/Video Editing?

Hello! I’m thinking of investing in an iPad for my work as a Graphic Designer, but I don’t know which model is worth it.

I currently use my MacBook Air + Wacom drawing tablet for work. Pero I also want to have an iPad sana para easier when it comes to doing illustrations and basic video editing.

I’m thinking of getting the iPad 11th Gen A16 instead of the Air or Pro, bc it’s cheaper and basic lang yung gagawin ko na illustrations and video editing.

To anyone who uses this iPad model for illustrations/designing, is it worth it?

Don't apply at Keenya Kelly LLC (OnlineJobs.Ph)

So I worked for her as a graphic designer briefly and honestly it was one of the worst work experiences I’ve had.

I was doing my best the entire time, staying late, revising nonstop, responding professionally to feedback, and trying to adapt to what she wanted. But the problem was the expectations kept changing and the feedback was constantly harsh to the point where it felt impossible to succeed.

Nothing ever felt good enough. One minute something was “beautiful,” then later it was suddenly wrong, off brand, too polished, not creative enough, too similar, too different. It honestly felt like walking on eggshells every day.

What really stood out to me was finding out there were multiple designers before me who also didn’t even last a week. After experiencing it myself, I completely understand why.

I cried almost every night from stress and frustration while working there. No job should make someone feel that mentally drained after only a week.

If you’re thinking about working for her, just know that the environment is extremely high pressure, the communication can be very harsh, and you may end up blaming yourself constantly even when you’re genuinely trying your best.

For professional designers, how did you start your career?

How did you start your career as a graphic designer? What ways did you use to find clients? I've been struggling lately to apply because most of the job postings require an experience. Some would explicitly say NO BEGINNERS. So, how did you land your first client? What was your position or niche?

What should I prepare for my first graphic design interview?

I’m attending my first graphic design interview as a fresher. What should I do to prepare properly and what do interviewers usually expect from beginners?

Also:

  • What questions are commonly asked?
  • How should I present my portfolio?
  • What mistakes should I avoid during the interview?

Would appreciate honest advice from designers or recruiters.

Is it normal to feel very anxious about my design work?

I'm new in the industry and these thoughts are really taking a toll on me.

Really appreciate your replies on how to combat this...thank you!
