Still anti Sega Genesis?

I dont know why, but im 47 years old and still prefer Snes or Genesis. I havw tried to play Sonic or even ports of Alladin and Earthworm Jim. I still prefer the Snes. Is it just me or was the Super Nintendo just better hands down vs Sega Genesis aka Megadrive?

Does anyone else now actively look for games with all the stuff you found "boring" when you were younger?

Caught myself the other night doing something teenage me would have found utterly baffling: voluntarily reading paragraphs of dialogue in a game on purpose, and actually enjoying it. There was a solid stretch of my life where I treated any wall of text as an obstacle between me and the fun. It was something to mash through as fast as possible to get back to the action.

I remember skipping every cutscene I could, ignoring the story and lore dumps entirely. If a game slowed down to make me talk to someone for a few minutes I would first try to skip it somehow, and then if that didn’t work I would kind of blindly click through the dialogue without paying attention. I just wanted to get to the cool action and what I considered the “interesting bits” of the game, and I did this even in RPGs, like Morrowind which I somehow still found fun despite ignoring like 95% of the game lol.

Somewhere in my late twenties that kind of flipped. Now the exact stuff I used to skip is the stuff I actively hunt for. I seek games with heavy serious dialogue, descriptive and expansive lore and I play them with patience and carefully read everything and look for all the hidden lore tidbits and stuff like that. The games that get me excited now are titles like Disco Elysium and BG3. Right now I’m playing through Esoteric Ebb and loving it. I am really hyped to play Hollow Home when it comes out. I’ve never played an RPG based on a true story before, and part of my family comes from Ukraine so it's a bit personal too. I like the idea of playing a “weak” protagonist and figuring out how to navigate difficult situations without combat.

When I play more action oriented games I pay attention to every single little detail instead of just rushing through everything like a dopamine addicted child. So even when I play the games I would have liked before, my playstyle is totally different.

I think part of my reason is because I used to waste so much time on video games mindlessly. So now I kind of compensate by trying to really enjoy and savor every moment of a game when I do find time to play (which is way less often than before). Has anyone else done a 180 like this or am I weird?

Need help finding anything I like...

I have been gaming since 1987, and I own just about every console that game out since then.

But lately I've fallen out of love with gaming I guess. I bought a Switch 2 at release with MKW and had two fun nights with friends but never played it after that. The second game I bought was DK:B but didn't play much more than 10 hours.

Now I am just trying out demos, RE:Requiem, Star Fox, Denshattack and some others. None really clicked for me. I thought I would like Disco Elysium as a casual game, but the crashes really annoy me and I deleted it because of those issues.

I am just not sure what would spark my love for gaming again. I never really loved BotW on the Switch 1, I hated the respawning of enemies. I just want to do the temples and puzzles. The combat felt too much investment from me, when I haven't played for a week I forget all the buttons and fight moves.

I tried viewing best games YouTube videos, deep diving in metacritic but it feels like randomly throwing money at games hoping that it sticks.

Maybe it's just a lost cause and I needed to write this down to realize my gaming days are over...

What the heck is an idle game?

I’m asking here because I tried google and the other subs scare me. What does it mean? Why would you play a game that is….. idle? I don’t get it.

Maybe my particular gamer type will be found here ...

I'm 45. What I think I miss most about gaming is how playing the game used to STAY IN the game. I detest discord. I saw the writing on the wall back when PS3 and Xbox 360 integrated platform chat. Suddenly games got quiet. Now a game has to require in-game chat as a game mechanic before people will even consider unmuting. MMOs feel full of metagaming bots because everyone is in discord or streaming instead of actually being there.

Am I alone in this, or is this the place where I might actually find a group(s) of like minded gamers who enjoy playing together using all and only in-game communication? God I hope yes.

If you are part of a group like this, please leave a comment and give a little info about what game and what it's like communicating with your group.

Playing Split Fiction again with my granddaughter

It Takes Two is her favorite game of all time. We platinumed it when she was four years old. If there is a Mount Rushmore of grandfathering feats, that should be on there, especially since we did it online. Fittingly, the last trophy we earned for the game was the one in the bug spa, and she was so excited about taking our characters on a spa day.

Anyhow, she had great anticipation for Split Fiction, and we beat it last year, but she just never got as into it as It Takes Two. She had no desire to go back through and clean up the trophies we missed after our first play through. Then she called me yesterday and asked if we could play it again, so we fired it up. I was so surprised how much better she is at it now. There was rarely a time I had to tell her what to do. I was waiting for her less, and she sometimes had to wait for me. And her brother only had to help her once. It was a great day, and she was sad when we had to save it because her mom wanted to take her somewhere.

Which game (or games) made you buy a PC or a console? In my case, it was Heroes III and Fallout 2. What about you?

Hey everyone!

Back in the day, I was a die-hard console gamer. On the original PS1, I randomly stumbled upon turn-based tactics like Vandal Hearts and just completely fell in love with the genre. I ended up playing through all the few strategy games available on consoles back then (let's be honest, consoles at the time weren't about strategies at all).

Eventually, I ended up in a local internet cafe where I saw Heroes III and was just blown away with sheer joy in that moment))) "THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!" My mind was completely flipped upside down and then finished off by Fallout 2's turn-based combat.

That was it. Right after that trip, I urgently saved up every penny for my very first Pentium PC, and ever since, all my gaming has been strictly on PC.

Have you guys ever had a turning point like that? Where a specific game (or games) made you buy a PC, or maybe vice versa, a console?

I'm 70. Started gaming around 1976. How about you?

I still game daily. Recently finished a GTAV Playthrough as a bit of nostalgia before VI releases. I play GTAO with my wife every week. Retired so lots of time to get through the backlog.

Edit: seems like a nice easygoing group here. Nice to see that on Reddit. I'll post a detailed history of my gaming in a few minutes :)

All time favorite game

I have playing the same games for a while and it has become pretty boring.
Please let me know what’s your all time favorite games, a game that you wish to forget and experience again.

For me it sekiro and transistor. I would recommend that everyone tries these two at least once.

Ahh Saturday. Pretty much the same as any other day gaming wise when you are retired.

I have a decent sized backlog of games to keep me busy until 11-19 rolls around. Today I will fire up Precinct for the first time. Picked it up on sale and have yet to try it. Anyone else playing it? Thoughts?

Happy Friday! What’s everyone playing this weekend?

I’m taking a little break from GTA V because I just want to chill with some simulator games this weekend. Recommendations for good simulator games on Xbox are very welcome! 😊

What are you playing this weekend?

Does anyone else have trouble finding time to play RPGs?

Both Western and JRPGs are one of my favorite genres, but the time needed to complete them is becoming more and more daunting and hard to come by. Does anyone else struggle with this?
