Quickest route to from central to north campus?

Hi! It's my second day living here and the walk from central to north campus is a bit annoying! I think I might be going a different, longer route but it's where my phone takes me. When I toured campus, I don't remember going that way and it felt a lot quicker than it does now. Could anyone tell me the easiest way to get there and back? Thx!

Private on campus I can take a medical call?

Private *place

I have an appointment online this evening and I can’t find a private spot (with internet) to take it. The libraries only offer rooms for 2 or more, I had a room reserved until I noticed single occupancy isn’t allowed. It’s not really an appointment I can risk getting kicked out in the middle of.

Can’t Connect to UK Housing Wi-Fi

Spoke on the phone with whitesky support for 40 damn minutes and still says this. The support agent told me she has exhausted all options and escalated this to a higher-up and that they will call me back in a few hours. What a joke 😂

Woodland Art Fair 50 years! This weekend!

hey all, the Woodland Art Fair is this weekend! it’s gonna be hot, but it’s a great community event. Hope you can make it!

Also, if you can ride your bike to the park, please do. They have a free bike check (near the tennis courts) so yout bike will be safe. Traffic during the art fair is pretty crazy, and riding your bike helps!

Journalism at College of Communication and Information

Hi, I’m 17 and high school class of 2027 and was wondering how the university’s School of Journalism and Media program is! (I am from Tampa Florida)

Thru researching for out of state colleges i found that Kentucy has the School of Journalism and media within the College of Communication and Information, and it got me interested in applying as post college I plan on being a sports journalist in the media. I plan on getting a B.A in journalism and notice that one of the options for required paths is sports journalism, which was what drew me to Kentucky as one of my options.

I was wondering if there are any current students in the journalism program, or even any former students, and was curious to know how it’s like, and how campus life is like in Lexington. I've passed thru Lexington a couple times but it's mostly when I was younger. I haven't been to Kentucky since 2022 lol

Is all of K week mandatory, if not, what parts are and what parts aren’t?

I’m transferring to UK this fall and I know K week is like a big event, and the site says ur required to go. I also know it says it’s from like 7 in the morning to 11 at night so do I have to be there for all of it? Are there certain times I should show up or leave? I really have no idea about any of it lol. Thanks for the help!

UK Engineering Computer Recs

I'm going to be an upcoming student doing mechanical engineering at UK, and was wondering what the tech requirements were in terms of computers. I currently have a Legion 5 Pro at home; it's a few years old, and I use it pretty regularly for gaming and other work (around 16GB of RAM). Only downsides, is that the battery life is horrendous and its huge and I dont want to lug it around campus. Im also a very big apple person, (and yes I know its not reasonable for engineering careers) and have been wanting to personally get a macbook for a good while. I was just wondering when most of the Windows-reliant projects would be done, during class or on my own time, and if it would be reasonable to bring this laptop to campus to keep in dorms to use for bigger projects and then get a macbook for reliability and just in general, or if it would be better to cut my losses and just invest in a different computer.

GOT TO GOOD OF A SCORE ON THE ALEKS

Hello. I recently took the aleks placement test. I got a 51 the first time. I then completed all the modules and assignments they gave me in the "prep for pre calculus" course. And then I watched maybe 2 organic chemistry tutor videos on trigonometry and then took the proctored test. And then I somehow managed to get a score of 79. Which placed me into calculus.

Which is great and all. But I havent even taken pre calculus. I hardly know anything about trig and complex natural logs.

Do you have any advice on what I should do? Im already behind in my college journey do to some stupid decisions when I was a little younger. So I dont want to drop the course as this placement allows me to get a semester ahead.

If you were in my situation what would you do?

I thought about just spam watching a bunch of YouTube videos on pre calc to prepare myself but they all seem a little different in the material they consider to be pre calculus. Is there any you personally reccomend?

Or on the other side of the coin, am I just being paranoid? Is calculus 1 really all that hard? Am I gonna be fine just winging it?

Employee Tickets to Games?

I know UKY is phasing out employee discounts to games (this is ridiculous by the way). But I’m also quickly learning that it’s difficult to get discounted tickets to games even if they’ve not been phased out completely yet. Did it used to be easier? I feel like I’ve followed link after link, and they all lead me to Ticketmaster where there’s no option to put in my employee number or anything. Is this a problem for other people?

If someone knows a link or something that will take me to where I can get a discount that’d be amazing!

OTS 248 - Bark Culture and Holden Bitner - Friday Aug 14, 7pm

Friends, please join Outside the Spotlight as Philadelphia-based Bark Culture returns for a free ($10 suggested donation) show this Friday, August 14 at Lexington Scottish Rite (553 Rosemont Garden). We are very excited to have Bark Culture returning again this year, as past shows have been big hits! This will be a show you can bring your less-musically-adventurous friends to, and they will have a good time. Please come, and bring a friend (or two)!

Local cello performer Holden Bitner will open the night, with music starting around 7pm. If you can't come until a little later, don't sweat it. This is a relaxed environment and all are welcome!

Poster for OTS 248 - Bark Culture and Holden Bitner

Bark Culture is a Philadelphia-based trio led by vibraphonist Victor Vieira-Branco, featuring Joey Sullivan on drums and John Moran on bass. The band is touring their new record, "The Giant is Awkward," released on June 5th, 2026.

The Giant is Awkward” is five pieces that mirror the prismatic nature of a sound Vieira-Branco has been tirelessly crafting with the group since 2021. The band’s 2024 debut, “Warm Wisdom”, received high praise, with New York Times jazz critic Hank Shteamer listing it among his top debuts of 2024, as well as landing a spot on Bandcamp’s Best of Jazz for September 2024.

Apartments to choose or avoid?

I have to move to UK on very short notice to start school and have never been to Lexington (live out of state). What apartments should I absolutely stay away from, and which ones are great?

The ones I am looking at are 1 Beds/Studios at MidTown, Gateway Lofts, The Oaks at Woodland, and literally anywhere there is space. I am comfortable paying up to $1,500 a month but I want to make sure the place is not in shambles when I get there.

Thinking about applying to the UofK MSW Program, but I'm reserved about it.

I am a 41 year old man in Tennessee, and I've worked 17 years in mental health and residential programs and I am about to graduate with my BSW next spring. I am looking to enter the Advanced Standing Program and am Carrying a 3.96 in my BSW. My biggest reservation is that for my bachelor's I am going to University of Pheonix because my employer has and is paying for 95% of my tuition cost with FAFSA. I do recognize there is a stigma with UPOX but the financial benefits was too good to pass up. Does UoK accept students from programs like this?

Admissions

Is anyone still waiting for a decision for the online MSW? I received my acceptance from the school of social work on 07/23 but unfortunately still waiting to hear back from the graduate school.

University of Kentucky GradPLUS Loan Issues

As of August 1st, 2026 financial aid awards are being posted in student accounts. There are many graduate students who have been approved for a GradPLUS loan and are considered legacy students, not seeing there awards for their GradPLUS loan in their accounts. The financial aid department is telling students they need to reapply for a GradPLUS loan because they are having a system issue. They are stating if you are a GradPLUS student who has already been approved for a GradPLUS loan to not worry about being denied if you reapply as long as you are within 180 days of your initial application. However, they cannot guarantee students they may not be denied. Many of us students have contacted the Department of Education and are being told they should be able to manually update our financial aid accounts - when they have alreay received our master of promissary notes and can utilize this as proof. This is a serious issue!

Anyone else having this problem?!
