How Many Practice Golf Swings is Appropriate?

Started golf mid-July 2025 and golfed 1-2x a week by myself until end of Sept. Picked it back up again this year, joined a ladies league, and play as a single with randos 1x a week.

Now before I swing I find 3 practice swings is what I need before I feel confident or ready to swing on all shots except for short chips and putts.

First swing feels okay, 2nd swing I always hit the ground, 3rd swing I correct and feel better, then I hit the ball. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable and have to readjust my set-up. But I’m worried I am not practicing good golf etiquette and upset the people I golf with. I do a good job of keeping the ball moving forward and trying to keep the pace of play. If I can’t find my ball I usually just drop so as not to hold up the pace of play.

Now if there are people waiting on me and my group to hit I try to only do 1 or 2 swings.

Nobody has ever said anything to me or made passive aggressive comments or sounds, but I worry.

Sun Protection Shoulder Wrap

Do any of you have experience of both Solbari and Sparms UPF shoulder wraps? I am purchasing from the UK so they will be shipped from Australia either way and I am wondering if there is any meaningful difference that makes you prefer one over the other? Solbari are currently cheaper than Sparms due to a sale.

Reccomended Shoes for Walking the Course

I got into golf last year and bought some cheap golf shoes as I didn't know how into it I would get. Well, I ended last year playing 2-3x a week, joined a league this year, and play another 1-2 times a week.

I only walk as it is cheaper, so I am wanting to get some more comfortable golf shoes as I feel like I am walking on cardboard now.

My max budget is around $100. I can't justify buying golf shoes more expensive then my running shoes and those usually cost me arounf 150-170. Any reccomendations?

Attending an LPGA Event Advice - US Women's Open

We're going to Saturday at the US Women's Open in a couple of weeks. We've never been to a live golf event before, so don't really know what to expect.

Arrival time: What time should we get there? The tickets say it starts at 7am - but presumably, we don't need to get there that early. I assume we can wait until tee times are announced and show up around then? Any guidance on what the crowds will be like?

Viewing: What do folks recommend for taking in the golf? Do we walk for a bit and then just find a hole and hang there? Or do we just find a hole early and sit there all day?

Chairs: It looks like we can bring small chairs - any reccos here that are not too bulky to carry around?

Anything else we should know? We don't know what we don't know.

Thank you!

Why is it so hard to meet other women golfers?

I’m 27 and got frustrated constantly trying to find women my age to play with locally. Most golf apps/groups feel outdated or mostly focused on men.

I ended up starting to build a women-focused golf social app because I felt like there wasn’t really a modern space for this.

Curious if other people feel the same way or if it’s just me.

Why am I annoyed

Why am I annoyed with scoring above 100 when it was literally only 2-3 weeks ago when I shot under 100 for the first time ever. This game is frustrating and I need to go easier on myself 😂

Help with updating clubs/what is real vs marketing towards women!?

Hello my fellow lady golfers,

I have been playing and steadily improving my golf game for past 7 years. My husband got my me 2018/2019 TaylorMade Kaela, they are very pretty and sold to him based on the promise that these would stick with me as I got better and they have! However, now that I am actually consistently playing my handicap is hovering around 25, and looking to keep improving, I had a pro during one of our lessons tell me that new Kalea’s are made with the same tech as men’s clubs (wow what a concept) something like because so many women picked up post-covid 2021 onward, they got serious about the set and it’s actually much better than the years that mine are from. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it worth selling my old set for the upgrade? For context, I average 1-2 rounds a week and try to hit at the range/simulator 3-4 days a week.

I have to admit, I definitely like having a “pretty” set, so while I have zero problem finding other men’s clubs that might suit my game I do like have the colors coordinate with bag, not the entire decision makers but it definitely plays into my thought process!

I am also happy to hear about any other sets that people have gravitated towards that took the game from more intermediate to advanced or rather didn’t hold them back. Thanks again!!

Fair games without handicap

I help run a par 3 league, 9 holes. No handicap. We have all levels of golfers. Looking for fun games that don’t favor the most talented ladies. Aside from scrambles and twosome best ball or alt shots, bingo bango bongo, any unique games out there? Appreciate any input.

I finally flushed an iron

Wow. The difference it feels when you hit an iron correctly! It felt so effortless and like I wasn’t even trying that hard and the golf ball would go so perfectly straight and far. I will be chasing this high for a while and I hope to god I don’t forget what I was doing! I only started in September and taking a lesson/clinic with the right pro is literally a game changer!

Anyone else trying to balance improving at golf with a busy schedule?

I’ve noticed that whenever I go several days without swinging a club, my timing feels completely off once I get back on the course. Some rounds I feel locked in, and other days it feels like I forgot everything I was working on the week before.

Recently I started messing around with a PhiGolf simulator after hearing about it from another golfer, mainly just as a way to stay engaged with golf during busy weeks. I didn’t really expect much from it at first, but it’s been interesting seeing how even small practice sessions can help keep my swing from feeling rusty.

I still think actual range time and playing real rounds matter way more, but I can at least understand why some people like simulators for extra repetition and rhythm work.

Curious if anyone else here has tried simulator practice before. Did it actually help your consistency at all, or did you feel like it didn’t really translate once you got back onto a real course?

Why don’t people turn in clubs left behind to the clubhouse?

I left my taylormade kalea gold PW on a hole at watters creek in Allen, Texas yesterday. My club has a red sticker with my email on it. Somebody must have picked it up bc I drove around looking for it but didn’t find it. I called the club today and nobody turned it in. Who stole a club? I can’t even replace it. I checked online and they only sell it in a set or the old model kalea pw. I can’t even buy an individual club. This is so frustrating

Drove nearly 200m to the green!

Family was asking what special activity I wanted today, I asked for golfing!

I have been a casual range visitor, no green card. Somebody gotta take care of the kids right? I occasionally had par-3 course visits a couple times a year for the past two of summers. My clubs are old and 2nd-hand. Do have my own driver, hubby got me about a year ago. Driving is very difficult for me. Never took a real lesson yet. Everything I know is from my hubby’s (sometimes patient) teaching.

But today! We went for a 9-hole golf course for my Mother’s Day activity. Was also my first of the season. It was a 4 par-4s and 5 par-3s. Beautiful day. On the 7th hole, a 203m fairway, I asked my coach (hubby) if it was a driver time? He said yes. That’s a good idea, as there was no dropping zone, and even if I made it fly randomly, we’ll most likely find the ball without much trouble. So I did, and… I drove to the green!!!

So happy. 😀 freaking nearly 200 meters! Okay, it was a bit downhill. But it was also head wind.

Then the 8th hole, another >200m. I said there’s no way I could do better than the last drive. Hubby said, true, not for a few years. What the heck I’d try anyway.

The I drove. And it went to a green.

Only, not my own green. But another green 😆😆😁😁🫣🫣😭😭

Almost hit my first hole in one

My husband just upgraded all my clubs from my 21 year old high school set. My newest being a callaway 5hybrid. I’m still working on hitting it, but I’m getting better. On a par 3 I get up, smack the ball, and think well I hit that way short and stopped watching it. I get to the cart and saw the look on his face. He tells me I just missed rolling in the hole and how it almost went in. I was shocked I thought I was 30 yards short. Definitely got up there and immediately missed my birdie putt, but that’s the closest I’ve ever been to a hole in one.

For some reason irons don’t work for me. It’s so difficult to make good contact and if that fails, it’s so painful. I stand over the ball with an iron and I’m scared before I even take the club away. The result are more bad shots obviously and more fear. The cycle continues. Has anyone else experienced this?
