Math 1160

So I recently did my first term test last week. I think I bombed it. There’s the second term test and final worth 35% left. I’m hoping to get a B in this class. I just find myself struggling and I don’t what to do or how to succeed in this class. My prof is Elaine Lin.

cost for courses

Hey guys, I’m planning to take 4 classes through the general studies diploma this fall, and was wondering what the estimated cost would be? Maybe I missed it on the website because I was unable to find it. Thanks in advance!

Those who took 6 courses in 1 semester before, how was it?

I'm just curious lol I used to be in classes with a couple of people who did that, but never heard how it turned out in the end. How was your experience and what program are you in? How were your grades? Why did you decide to do it and how was your social life? If you got good grades, what do you think contribute to that and what did your schedule look like (back to back, spreading out, etc.)?

Need opinion on commuting from Coquitlam campus to New West for classes on the same day?

Has anyone ever done this? Commuting between two campuses on the same day. How was your experience?

So the first class (The Canadian Legal System) is at Coquitlam on Wed from 12:30-3:20pm and the second class (Psych Explanations of Criminal Behaviour) is also on Wed from 6:30-9:20pm. According to Google Map, it'll take about 42 minutes to commute which I should be okay, but I'm debating if this is going to be a wise thing for me to do lol

The other option is taking The Canadian Legal System on Monday night in New West, but I'm trying to avoid taking night classes and want to reserve Monday nights for my dance training (it only runs on Mondays, so if I choose this option, I'd have to drop out of the program).

or another one is keeping The Canadian Legal System on Wed and take Psych Expl of Crim in Winter. Because I don't necessary have to take it yet, but I definitely have to take The Canadian Legal System or I won't be able to take a lot of 2nd year Crim courses in the Winter term (I'm in Criminology) BUT it's going to be my fav prof teaching the Psych Crim this Fall and he told me he won't be teaching in the Winter and I reallyyyy want to take his class.

Which is why I'm thinking about taking two courses at different campuses on the same day, so I can keep my dance training and also take a class with my fav prof. It sounds doable, but realistically can I? lol I live in New West so I've always taken classes at the New West campus. I've never taken classes in Coquitlam.

need help with fall pre-nursing course planning (and general advice)

i'm planning my fall schedule and would love some advice/input on courses and profs!

almost all of the A&P profs have pretty positive reviews (as i've scoured reddit and rmp for hours), and i'm debating between taking Len for both A&P 1 and 2 or splitting it with Rosemary and Shelley. lab times haven't been released yet either, so i'm keeping that in mind while deciding.

+ curious about how the labs are set up and how intensive they tend to be

lastly, i'm also planning to take microbio and patho on winter erm, so any advice on those courses in terms of profs, workload, and difficulty would be really helpful appreciated too :]

Easiest ENGL 1130 prof to get an A with?

Needing recommendations for ENGL 1130 - Academic Writing professors who are easy graders. Need an A in this class. Currently in John Rowell's class and I currently don't have an A. If it doesn't get better, I might have to drop and retake. I'm looking for a teacher that will make their marking rubric clear, so you know exactly where you lost points on an essay.

Thanks!

incoming AFNURS student in fall 2026 seeking advice (and friends)

hi everyone!

i’ll be starting douglas college’s AFNURS program in the fall, and i was wondering if anyone has any advice, tips, or things they wish they knew before starting.

i just graduated high school, so i’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves about beginning college. nursing has been my goal for a long time, and i’m really looking forward to starting this next chapter, but i’m definitely a little intimidated by the transition from high school to post-secondary.

i’ve also been working on my draft schedule in preparation for fall 2026 registration and would love to hear any feedback from current or former AFNURS students, and even BSN students!
i’ve spent way too much time on “rate my professor” trying to carefully choose my courses and instructors, so i’m hoping i’ve put together a decent schedule…

another thing i’m a bit nervous about is maintaining my grades. i’m a recipient of the president’s entrance scholarship, which means i need to maintain at least a B (3.0 GPA) throughout my time at douglas, both during AFNURS and later in the BSN program. i’d love to hear from anyone who’s balanced nursing school while keeping up a strong GPA. any study tips, time management advice, or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

i’d also love to connect with any other incoming students who will be starting AFNURS in fall 2026, or even anyone around my age (17/18) who’ll be going to douglas in the fall. it would be nice to meet some people before classes begin!

thanks in advance, and i’m looking forward to hearing from everyone :)

Anyone taken these PSYC 2300 profs? (data analysis in psych)

Trying to plan out my schedule and wanted to hear from people who’ve taken these instructors for PSYC 2300:

  • Dane, Laura
  • Parker, Victoria (in‑person)
  • Parker, Victoria (online section)

If you’ve had any of them, how was the workload, teaching style, and grading? Any insight helps!

Is it too late to apply for Fall 2026?

Hi everyone,

I was interested in applying to Douglas for science (then transferring to UBC). Firstly, I want to preface that I have completed Chem 11 (A) and Bio 12 (B) but I was unable to complete Chem 12 due to not having space in my timetable (I’m graduating a year early). I haven’t taken physics 11 or 12 either but I know I won’t go into a physics heavy career (Forensics), BUT I’m not opposed to taking it in uni.

I’m in the process of completing English 12 along with Pre-Calc 12, and I have already completed my other grade 12 courses necessary for graduation.

I haven’t gotten the chance to apply anywhere (for personal reasons) but I was wondering if it’s too late to apply for the Fall 2026 year as I can’t really find any specific details anywhere.

should I call an academic advisor?

Thank you!

Easiest UT Humanities course/professor

I need to take 6 credits of UT Humanities courses and would prefer something on the easier side. If you’ve taken a HUMS class with a light workload or a chill professor, I’d love to hear your recommendations. Thanks!

Building Your Schedules (Tips?)

hello! i’m going to douglas this upcoming fall, and I saw that course registration was out for my program (Academic Foundations in Potential Nursing) does anyone have any tips and advices for freshman with their first semester schedules?

(I plan on working part-time and tend to procrastinate until due dates)

Social Work program

My kid who graduates soon is debating doing the Social Work degree at Douglas. Can someone explain what this means for Requirements:

  • Completion of a minimum of 30.00 University Transferable (UT) credits including the following:
    • PSYC 1130 - Lifespan Human Development or equivalent (note 1)
    • Any 3.00 credit ENGL University Transferable course or any 3.00 credit CMNS University Transferable course
    • 24.00 credits of University Transferable non-Social Work courses

Does this mean she has to do the Psyc course, and english course and 24 other credits before applying to this program? Then it takes 3 year to complete the actual program? So in essence this could take a few years to complete just the pre req's before being able to apply?

Canada homestay network sucks

Sorry to vent. I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps future students pick a better housing option.

Every host family I’ve had are low income people who are just in for the money. I’ve had to move 3 times, and in every single one, I’ve had to share a tiny basement with two to three other students. The one I’m currently at have us use a separate wifi from theirs with very low bandwidth cause they’re that cheap with utilities😭.
I made the mistake to opt for 3 meal plans for the first two times and only got singular fruits😭 and sandwiches even for dinner😭. Btw the agency DOES NOT gaf about complaints. I’ve made calls and written them emails to no avail. It’s the host families that decide when we move so they can have more students. I tried to give them a chance the first few times thinking I was just unlucky. But no.
I initially went for a host family over renting thinking it was a more viable option. Only for me to find out that I was paying way more than what some of my friends are renting for..

How much do I have to pay for my seat at Douglas?

Hi i’m trying to accept my seat at Douglas for the 2026-2027 academic year. My program is an Arts Associates and i’m a domestic student for context.

The Douglas FAQ website states that it’s $350 but i’m not sure if that applies for my program and just want to maw sure before I send any money.

I’m wondering if anyone knows and if there are any future first year students who have already done so?

I have already contact Student Enrolment Services about this but they don’t always give a direct response. Someone’s please let me know! I might just have to call them. I want to start looking at my classes that I want to register for in advance and get my time ticket.

Nursing winter 2027

If people are already getting waitlisted for nursing in winter, does that mean they have already selected who they are taking for winter 2027. I’m confused how they would be able to know who to waitlist if they don’t already have the students they’re accepting for winter
