I'm building this for independent filmmakers, it's been about 6 months now, Tell me if this will work or not?

It all started 6 months ago as a site where you can upload your auditions, aiming to get more visibility like this. The idea slowly iterated to uploading films, renting them, Building communities with a personalized feed for each community, so that people can comment on each other's work. Building profession profiles for filmmakers like LinkedIn. Building an ecosystem around it, So that newcomers can learn from the older ones, connect with each other and eventually collaborate and create films. We have onboarded over 130 creators. They are slowly uploading their films. If you think this is gonna work, You are welcome to be one of our creators, build your profile, upload films, build your own community, We do not charge anything, Absolutely nothing. Our only source of revenue is a fee from rental transaction and ads.

Freelance Colorist Looking to Connect & Collaborate With Indian Filmmakers

Hi everyone,

I'm a freelance colorist working primarily in DaVinci Resolve, and I'm looking to connect with Indian directors, DOPs/cinematographers, editors, and independent filmmakers working on upcoming projects.

I've had experience grading short films and documentaries, and I'm looking to explore more projects and different visual styles while building long-term creative relationships with filmmakers.

I'm particularly interested in short films, documentaries, indie features, music videos, and other narrative projects where I can work closely with the director or DOP to help develop the final visual look.

I'm not just looking for one-off work. I'd really like to meet filmmakers, understand their visual approach, collaborate on projects, and hopefully build relationships that continue across future productions.

I'll attach a few stills from projects I've worked on so you can get an idea of my work.

Anyone from India interested in screenwriting or filmmaking?

Hi everyone! I’m a new screenwriter from India, currently working on my first sci-fi/fantasy screenplay.

I’m looking to connect with other people interested in filmmaking — especially screenwriters, directors, actors, producers, composers, cinematographers, and editors.

I’d eventually love to build a small team and collaborate on a project. I’m also interested in meeting other aspiring filmmakers, sharing ideas, giving feedback, and learning from each other.

If you’re from India and interested in screenwriting or filmmaking, feel free to DM me! 😊

And if you’re from outside India, you’re welcome too! I’d be happy to connect with filmmakers and screenwriters from anywhere in the world. 🌎

If you have any advice on how to find and connect with people in the film industry, I’d really appreciate it!

Development Executive Experience

TLDR: Studio system in india in f*cked

I have been working as a dev exec at a major Indian film studio for more than 6 months now.

My experience has broken something inside me and idk where to go from here.

I’m the first rung of the ladder at the studio so I’m the first one who gets to read scripts when they come in.

In my time I have noticed that the studio is not really interested in developing work or talent. They want everything ready. They don’t want to pay writers to develop upon any material. I’ve had the opportunity to contact some big names among the indian writers and they’ve even submitted good ideas / concepts. They have all been passed on by the studio because they will require development.

They literally expect a complete show bible and a bound script if it’s a movie. Basically they want writers to write on spec. But even then they will not pay them. They will take the project to a streamer (there are only 4 in india: Netflix, Amazon, JioStar, Sony) and if the streamer likes something then and only then will they commission the project.

In my time I have not seen any project get commissioned, no script that’s being bought. The streamers always find a problem with the material (and usually the problem is solvable with development) and reject it.

Moreover, everyone at my workplace is a marketing person or MBA including my boss and my boss’ boss. Nobody comes from a film background or actually even cares if they’re making a good film or not. Everyone just wants to know if the film will sell on the first weekend.

I’m overworked, underpaid and there’s an unsaid expectation to work 24 hrs with no overtime pay. Work life balance is not a thing. Asking for a holiday seems like I’m doing a crime. And btw this was something really new for me: earned leaves. I have to work to earn my holiday. This all is giving me hints of slavery…

I see no future for cinema in india. The studio will survive and even thrive because of all the royalties they continue to get. It feels like that’s becomes their main business, their main source of income.

I want to know how do you keep hope alive. It’s so terrible out here. I came here in the hope that I would pitch them my movie someday but now I’m just hiding the fact that I have even written one because if I do they’ll argue that the movie is there’s since I wrote it while I’m employed with their company.

This is disillusioning me from cinema. The business is actively working against the art and artists, not even trying to support.

How do you guys actually find people to work with on a film project?

I'm 23M and have been getting more serious about making short films. I can write and direct decently, but whenever I have an idea that needs an editor, cinematographer or even another person who understands what I'm trying to make, I get stuck.

Most of my friends aren't really into filmmaking, and randomly messaging people on Instagram feels awkward because I don't know whether they're actually interested in collaborating or just posting their work.

For people who make independent/short films, how do you actually find your team? Is there a place where you regularly meet people for this?

we've built a platform for people who are tired of getting buried underneath or struggling to actually monetize their work

the idea came from a pretty simple problem, there are tons of independent filmmakers making genuinely good films, but actually getting those films in front of people and finding other filmmakers to connect with can get ridiculously difficult.

you can upload your work, create your own filmmaker profile, connect with other creators, and have your films available for people to rent. there’s no onboarding fee, and you get a share everytime someone rents your content.

think of it basically like YouTube + Reddit + Discord + LinkedIn but built around filmmakers a place where you can actually showcase your work while building a network around it.

and this isn't just an idea we're throwing around about 100+ filmmakers and creators have already joined us, and we're now looking to bring in more indie filmmakers and creators.

so if you’ve got a film sitting on your hard drive that you wish more people could see, I'd love to get you on and have you try it out :)

if you're interested, comment or DM me and I'll send you the details.

hey fellow filmmakers. I need just a quick suggestion and thought u guys might help me with one

I'm making a short film (my first), and the plot is quite simple. The boy kills the girl, eats her, dumps her body and leaves. Basically it is that simple. But I have been adding elements which are making this film somewhat interesting. But I just need to add one thing. I want to make the film feel uncomfortable from the beginning. And I want to make it uncomfortable by not directly telling the audience. I want the audience to notice the stuff, and after noticing they will feel weird. So I need ur help with that. Can u suggest some ways by which I can achieve that?

Why it's so difficult to get a work even if u have experience. POV - being an assistant director.

Indian film industry is so vast but still you have to literally beg for work but still you don't get. It's not that you are lacking any skill. You do have the skill required for the job but still you are among of the unemployed guy from entertainment industry.

How was your experience sharing the script with YRF Studios if you are an outsider?

I have written a script for YRF Studios and already submitted the synopsis, but I don't think they're even going to read it.

24M, quit my job and took a 2-year break. I want to spend the next 730 days figuring out if filmmaking is really for me.

Hi everyone,

I’m Muneswar, 24M.

I recently left my job and decided to take a break for the next 2 years.

I know that probably sounds crazy to some people, but there’s something I’ve wanted to pursue for a long time — filmmaking, specifically direction and screenplay.

I’ve written several screenplays and stage plays over the years. Writing stories is something I genuinely enjoy, but I’ve realized that writing from the outside isn't enough anymore.

I want to actually be on a film set and understand how films are made.

My immediate goal is to find opportunities to work as an AD (Assistant Director) on films so I can learn the process from the ground up — pre-production, scheduling, blocking, working with actors, camera departments, production, set discipline, and everything else that goes into making a film.

I don't expect to walk onto a set and start directing. 😅

I'm willing to start wherever I can, learn, observe, assist, and do the work.

I'm also open to collaborating with other filmmakers, writers, cinematographers, editors, actors, musicians, or anyone else who is seriously interested in making films.

I'm not looking for people who just want to talk about making a movie someday.

I want to actually make things.

I have a personal deadline in my head:

730 days.

I have these two years to figure out what I'm capable of, learn filmmaking practically, meet people, work on sets, write, make short films, make mistakes, and hopefully discover whether this is truly the life I want.

Maybe at the end of those 730 days I'll know that filmmaking is exactly where I belong.

Maybe I'll discover something completely different.

But I'd rather spend two years finding out than spend the next ten years wondering "What if I had tried?"

If you're working in the film industry, especially as an AD, director, writer, or crew member, I'd genuinely appreciate any advice on how someone like me can get started.

And if you're also trying to make films and looking for someone to collaborate with, feel free to DM me.

I'm based in India and I'm willing to learn, travel, and start from the bottom.

730 days. Let's see where this takes me. 🎬
