I spent 2 years trying melatonin before discovering there's an actual treatment for insomnia.

Two years of horrible sleep.

Not "a little tired." More like lying awake until 3-4am, sleeping a couple hours, then dragging through work.

I've tried melatonin, magnesium, sleep podcasts, sleep hygiene, blackout curtains, all the usual stuff.

Recently I stumbled across CBT-I and I'm honestly surprised I'd never heard of it before. From what I've read, it's apparently considered one of the most effective treatments for chronic insomnia, 76% clinical improvement rate in studies, and the American College of Physicians made it their official first-line recommendation over sleeping pills in 2016.

The sleep restriction part sounds brutal though. Deliberately spending less time in bed when you're already exhausted feels completely backwards.

Has anyone here actually done a full CBT-I program?

What was sleep restriction like during the first few weeks?

Should I continue with extended release or no?

I’m taking 10 mg time released. But it’s 5 mg at the start then 5 my released over time. It works for me.

The bottle is 120 tablets tho and 17$. So I’d need to buy 3 for a year and it would cost 51$.

However I could get a bottle of 5 mg 365 tablets and it’s not extended release and it’s only 20$.

I just don’t know if I need the extended release or not??

Melatonin gummies

I have Vitafusion Melatonin gummies I purchased. I always had issues sleeping since I was a preteen. I want a way to get to sleep without my mind being restless. (Marijuana doesn’t work that way for me). It makes me stay up and then crash and the next day I’m unproductive. Also messing up my eating habits. The gummies say the serving is 10mg (2 gummies). This seems high but I also read that the melatonin gummies don’t process all those milligrams the same. I work late nights so is my best bet just to take the gummies as soon as I walk in the door? Have you had good or bad experiences with gummies? Do you wake up sluggish after the gummies?

Sleep medication

I’m needing help badly.

My son who’s about to be 10 months has NEVER slept well. We are beyond white noise, we are beyond co sleeping, we are beyond bath every night, beyond dark room beyond just all of it.

His wake windows are age appropriate and proper. We bath him nightly. We do white noise nightly and dark room.

He’s NEVER once been able to sleep on his own. And even with co sleeping he would wake up every 30-40 mins. CO SLEEPING!! Like what !?

We have tried letting him CIO but after 20 mins of CIO I just can’t do it he dosent pass out from CIO. I never even wanted to try to do the CIO method but I did since I reached a breaking point. And it did NOTHING

He’s been refered to a sleep consultant she yapped about iron and gave us iron powder and a nose spray thing to do before bed and it did NOTHING

Me and my partner in 9 months have not been able to even sleep together in the same room. We haven’t been able to do anything. I cannot ever get a break during the day as he will not sleep in his crib. For 9 months I’ve gotten not a single break and neither has my husband. I envy people who can just put there baby down even for just an hour to clean/cook/bathe etc. normal human functions you knowww

I believe it’s all behavioural but once he hits 1 what can I do regarding sleep meds? Bringing it up to his pediatrician?? He does not have sleep apnea, he dosent have any of that as he’s been checked.

I never in a million years wanted to be the mom who would have my child on melatonin or a sleeping med but until you are given a baby who for 10 months just can’t sleep and stay asleep you break. It’s just been me and my partner doing this all alone for 10 months no family support nothingggg. He has EXTREME fomo and a very insane angry temperament and honestly I feel like he’d be such a happier boy if he could just decently sleep through the night and not wake every 30-40 mins

What medication can I look into for him to STAY ASLEEP when he’s past 1 years of age. What medication will actually keep him asleep!?

Generally speaking, can you take melatonin (3mg) everyday or should it only be used short term?

I was wondering this as I have noticed I sleep so much better on it…

Where can I buy Melatonin from to the UK? Having trouble finding anywhere now. Has there been a change in the law?

A Reddit post a while ago said you can buy and import Melatonin legally, despite it being illegal to buy in the UK. A company called pipingrock.com was recommended, so I went ahead and bought a big tub of 12mg Melatonin from them in the US. The transaction was smooth, no customs or postage issues, great price and it arrived quickly.

I’ve just gone to reorder though and it won’t let me, saying that it ‘cannot send to that country’ (UK). I’ve looked at a couple of other websites via Google instead, but the transaction fails at that last point too. Has there been any law changes?

Does anyone have recomendations as to where I can order to the UK? My sleep has been so messed up without them. I’m preferably after 12mg or 24mg fast dissolve (under the tongue) tablets, but happy to compromise. I’ve got everything crossed. TIA

Stopped taking melatonin

I’ve been taking it in small doses to help sleep for a few years. Nothing heavy, just 2-5mg a night.

I decided to try the magnesium on the feet thing instead. So I stopped taking melatonin.

Since I stopped I have a weird tingly sensation and a feeling of fullness in my head, also slight headachiness.

Has anyone else had anything similar? I googled and supposedly there are no “withdrawal” symptoms.

Is 12-20 mg of Melatonin per-night too much for a teen?

I’ve struggled intensely with sleep since as long as I can remember, of which was recommended by my pediatrician to be treated with melatonin. I have now been taking melatonin for upwards of 10 years, and people tell me my melatonin dosage is obscenely high.

I have MDD to add onto the insomnia so my sleep is horrible unless I take melatonin, and any lower dosage just doesn’t work. Is this a problem?

terrible melatonin experience, looking for sleep advice

I've been struggling with my sleep because it's when intrusive thoughts show up more and it's also when I engage more with my current compulsion (online searching), so basically I get very tired but keep fighting sleep until the last second. Had this very dumb idea that if I could make myself very tired faster, I would not be able to fight it off and that would regulate my sleep cycle, so I took 0.5mg of melatonin (most people would take between 1-10mg), put my phone away and went to bed. Oh boy. It gave me major anxiety, heart palpitations, dry mouth, nausea and of course all of those were triggers for my intrusive thoughts and looking up symptoms. I'm ok now and did eventually sleep but I do wish more people talked about the side effects of melatonin and how it can worsen anxiety symptoms. I'm curious to see if other people with OCD reacted similarly to melatonin and also how y'all have been managing the horrible before-bed-ocd experience, because I could use some suggestions.
